Secrets of the Vale

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our world holds many secrets...things that the human eyes pay no mind to are often hidden groves and environments for magic to dwell. The underside of a toadstool...the keyhole within a door...the crevices between your keyboard...the knots within an old tree. Everywhere you go, there are links to other worlds teeming with magic and creatures of another realm.

Some of these links have opened up to us...but can only be seen by the eyes who believe and pay attention to the smallest details. If you are among those who are gifted to explore this vast world, linked by many ancient souls of magical creatures and beings, then come...step into the first portal, and be surrounded in the wonder that is, The Vale.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This adoption agency is like no other I have done before, and will rely heavily upon chance, luck, and discovery. There will be many different types of creatures to adopt, and different methods to adopt. This agency will grow as time goes by and change, just as the world around us does. Eventually items will be discovered, and even breeding will soon become available and open up entirely new and different secrets to this world.
The first method of getting a creature through The Vale is through auction. Because we must preserve the magic that fills this place, we can only allow up to three exclusive pets to be auctioned off at a time. Sometimes we will have an abundance of population from another type of lesser, yet still spectacular creature. When this happens, there will be a bountiful share of creatures for others to tame and carry as companions for life. There is a delicate balance that must be kept between the world of The Vale, and ours. This is why creatures may sometimes be scarce. Just remember, friends....good things come to those who wait.
Every month, a new auction will be held for the exclusive creatures that are available. Each month will hold a theme that may be decided by the Creator, the season, or the users. The current theme will be displayed in the appropriate post. The themes may vary greatly, or morph slightly in a pattern, and may one day change wildly if the methods to Breeding are discovered. Sometimes huge events may occur in The Vale, which will change the very face of the world and alter the creatures in some form, which may have beautiful or wicked results.
Every creature here is unique in their own way, and the inhabitants of The Vale wish to keep it that way. However, visitors are permitted to study and learn from The Vale's texts on magic and history. Sometimes new discoveries can be made in this fashion. It is up to our visitors to find out what secrets this world holds. There are many to discover...never be afraid to explore even the darkest depths or smallest holes!
September :: Fruit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you venture into the first portal into The Vale, you approach a large tree blossoming with lush, sweet smelling greenery. Within the branches you notice many different brightly colored fruits that seem to glow. A strange presence overcomes you as you feel you should keep your distance. The leaves rustle slightly and you hear munching and grumbles as well as tiny squeaks and growls. You are not alone in this world. Your heart races as you are overcome with uncertainty...perhaps even fear. The creatures that inhabit this world are not like our own. They could be fearsome or friendly..for it is unknown.
As you dare to continue on your journey, you see a few tiny orbs fall from the trees and land upon the ground. The creatures within the trees fall silent and then flee into the bushes, completely unseen. As you get closer, you realize the fallen objects are seeds...most likely from the divine fruits blossoming in the tree.
The First Discovery
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you reach down to pick up the seeds, you hear a loud grunt behind you. A curious creature nods at you and grunts again, startling you onto your rear. The creature nudges at your feet and opens its jaws, beginning to speak, much to your surprise!
" Good day, friends! Welcome to The Vale's first portal. I see you have found The Great Tree and her saplings. Don't be alarmed, lads and lassies, I am among those who guard this tree. We fruit-fawns treat it as our flesh and blood, for we have grown from the nutrients and shelter this tree provides. Our species often changes appearance based upon our favorite fruits and seeds this tree blooms.
Oh, dear, pardon me where are my manners?! My name is Mangodile...affectionately named from my Keeper, who watches over the entirety of The Vale. She feels that the seeds that have fallen may be used to sprout a few more fruit-fawns from this portal, and she'd be happy to let the worthy visitors have a chance at keeping one of them as a companion to accompany you through our world.
However, because some of the other portals of this world are inhabited by creatures who would rather see you fight to the death over the opportunity to obtain companions, my Keeper has established a method fit for all that will become a solid rule in our land. This will surely save your skins from some of the more ruthless of creatures in The Vale! Don't worry, though...soon they too will accept your presence. "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seeds of The Great Tree
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The strange creature picks up the seeds and cradles them in his folded leaf tail, then climbs atop a large boulder. He explains to you that each seed will be auctioned, in which you can use your own worldly currency, which will become useful to The Vale in the future, when more discoveries are made.
The dark seed tastes tangy.
The red seeds taste sweet.
The pale seed tastes sour.
Mangodile continues, saying that each seed will sprout when it is ripened and has absorbed enough nutrients from The Great Tree, so that the winner of the bid for each seed must remain in this portal until their companion has come forth. Otherwise, the unborn fruit-fawns will wither and have to reincarnate themselves in another portal, which sometimes may result in a wicked transformation. Patience is required for the creatures of The Vale to reveal themselves. Bid responsibly.
The Discovery of Knowledge
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the auction slept overnight, a curious figure dropped by to visit the slumbering Mangodile. He yawns and stretches, finding his paws pushing against something hard that felt of canvas. He opens his eyes and finds himself lying upon a pile of books. No doubt his keeper had dropped them off for the visitors to use.
As the visitors wake from their slumber, he gathers the books and makes an announcement before the auction continued for the day. The books are ancient texts that had been lying around The Vale. New books will be discovered in other portals, and sometimes books gathered from previous portals will have astounding affects on creatures and the environment of another portal. Mangodile knocks on the cover of a few books and furrows his brow in confusion. It would seem that many of them may appear to be closed off, and not opening their magic to others yet. Maybe you can try to coax the magic out of them.
The texts are written in a language that visitors cannot understand, and very few inhabitants of The Vale can decode them. Some of them may be useless...some may be cursed. Some may hold the most wonderful secrets. It is up to the visitors to try everything they can to test them out with various actions. Perhaps when visitors obtain companions, you can perform even more actions that may spark something amazing to happen!
We are very limited on books here in the portal of The Great Tree, so please limit yourself to buying only one of these books from us. If your book is destroyed, we might be able to give you a new one, but will be limited on supplies, so you may have to settle with the ones left we can give you. Sometimes it's hard to keep a book from being destroyed though, so don't beat yourself up if one happens to fall apart. But maybe if you can salvage enough pieces of your book, you can put one back together!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The books here can be bought for 75k. If your book breaks and you want a new one, it will cost 25k, but it will be randomized and you cannot pick your own book.
Keep your book handy and remember which one you have. You may trade with other users, but remember, you can only have one book from each portal. The Great Tree offers the following books:
The Tome of The Great Tree
This book appears old, yet preserved. The pages are crisp and musty and written in scribbled runes. A gold film lines the corners of the pages, and there are strange images and glyphs drawn into some of them.
An Ominous Spell Book
This tome looks as if it may have been damaged by smoke or some explosion. It is covered with soot and dirt and some of the pages have been eaten by insects. The images depicted within make this book seem like it was used for spell-craft.
A Moss Covered Tome
This book is slimy to the touch and the runes written inside have rubbed and faded. It reeks like swamp water and mud. However on the inside of the front cover is a small scribbled signature. What could it mean?
A Cracked Leather-Back Book
This book is covered by fine white leather and the pages are stained. Some of the rune writing appears to be circled, and even underlined with red ink, as if someone was studying it before.
A Mysterious Golden Text
This book is bright and glorious, with a small strange etching on the front. The pages seem to appear blank...how curious.
A Crimson Manual
This tome seems to have instructions for something, though you cannot read the runes. It seems like a very new book, or maybe it has been carefully preserved.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember, these books will not reveal their true potential until a lot of things have been played out. Some actions may do nothing at all, and some may do something eventually. After three tries of one action, I will let you know if that action seriously will do absolutely nothing. However, keep in mind your book has a percentage chance to be destroyed. Some books are more fragile than others, but remember to not judge the book by its cover. Some may look fragile, and indeed are not...some may look sturdy, and will break easily. Some books may cause a huge event when destroyed, too, though. Take risks and have fun.
Books will not do much at first unless you have a companion, but they break less easily when you do actions with them that do not involve your companion. Different companions will react differently to each type of book.
You can only perform one action a day with your item. Once you have bought the item, you are free to make as many actions as you want with it over time, granted of course, that the item does not break. Books are the only thing available at the moment, but this includes all future items.
Keep in mind that most things in this adoption forum will rely heavily on not just mine, but YOUR creativity. Go crazy, and you may spark something fun to happen that no one would have ever thought of!
The Discovery of Events
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As our visitors have been trying out the first discovery, one of the sparked an Event to happen. Events are very rare, so it is quite a treat one was discovered so quickly. Events affect every visitor, new and seasoned, whether you have a companion or not. Events need help from many people to be completed, and will keep go on for a few days unless ended suddenly by another rare chance. If an event that is harmful to The Vale is not completed, there will be consequences and damages to this world, which will affect everyone and we must work together to reverse the effects when applicable, or simply learn to live life in The Vale with the new changes. Most of them will subside over time, but many cannot be reversed without the help of the visitors. During an event, all visitors are free to submit actions to posts as many times as they like. There is no limit like there is with items. However, there are still special rules to be followed, which will be explained below. Events are completely free to participate in, to all visitors.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Swarm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many different types of events, but the rarest and most interactive is The Swarm. A swarm is just as it says...a swarm of creatures that invade the current Portal due to a link being broken between portals. If these creatures are not taken care of quickly, sometimes the link can even seep parts of the opposite portal into the current one, which will morph both portals and change the environment. This will affect the wildlife too, which is sometimes a good thing, and sometimes a terrible thing. Creatures from another portal may feast upon the wildlife or food sources of another portal's environment, and it may cause creatures to become extinct, or completely changed.
A swarm will consist of between 4 and 15 creatures at one time. When a swarm comes, there will be many warnings ahead of time. Swarms are more fun with more people trying out different things, however, there are two basic choices to prepare for a swarm.
Search for a Net
~or~
Search for a Weapon
A net can be used to capture the creatures. After you capture one, Mangodile will wrangle them up into a corral where they will be tamed, and can be bought as companions after the encounter has subsided. In some rare instances, if you create or find a net that has a high efficiency, ( level 1-10 ) you may be able to use the net to capture more than one creature at a time, which will speed up the process, and possibly gain you items! However, a net can break, and they can break much more easily than your books or items can. If your net breaks, you have a small chance to be able to salvage it and use it again. If you fail, you have to wait another day, or buy a pre-made net from Mangodile. Pre-made nets are never highly efficient, but if you are impatient, you have the option available to you.
If you choose to find a weapon, you will take to a head-on battle with the creatures. Your weapon will use the same method as the nets, being labeled with efficiency, and can break or be used to cleave or have multi-attacks. If your weapon breaks, you must defend yourself. Your remaining turns in the Swarm will be spent defending yourself, unless you have a companion, or unless another visitor opts to perform a 'Rescue' and will skip their turn to post, to help you out and give you a weapon. Weapons given to you by other visitors will have a lower efficiency than a personally crafted one.
If you own a companion, you may send it out to fight for you. Though, beware, you must never send your companion out unarmed. Your companions can die in battle here. It is better to not use this option unless your companion has obtained a Blessing or some other enhancing affect. If your companion dies, there is a possibility to salvage their original essence, which will then need to be incubated over a period of time to come back to life. The essence can be stolen or damaged though, so make precautions to guard it dearly. If you fail, your pet is gone forever. ( However the design is still yours to post. Just in this forum's roleplaying aspects, your pet is dead. )
If you have a book, you have the option to choose to tap into the ancient magic within it and try to control it, giving you a mage ability in the battle, which is always highly efficient. However, this does not come without a price. If you tap into the magic of the book and fail, your book will be damaged heavily. If you manage to tap into it successfully, but fail to defeat your current foe, your book is completely destroyed, and will only drop lesser quality salvage materials.
 When you defeat your foe, you may search the remains and obtain an item
 based upon a random generator. The item can be tested out just like
your books, and may have the ability to be used in recipes. Items gained
 through battle usually have more interesting affects to your companion,
 and if mixed together through recipes later, can have very drastic
affects to your pet, or craft a Blessing. Not all recipes will work, and
 not all will work every time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are unsatisfied with the method you have chosen ( to get a net or weapon ), you may change it once, and only once, before the swarm approaches. If the message is posted where the swarm has arrived, you are out of time, and you must remain true to your method. if you fail to follow these rules, your posts will be ignored, and you will not gain any creatures or loot from this particular swarm. I can understand if it's an accident, but you must correct it. If you argue, the proof is in the posts, and you will be warned.
When posting your 'roleplay' type response involving the battle, or attempt to capture, please remember to not god mod, and be respectful to other visitors. Do no interfere with their encounters, unless you decide to pull a 'Rescue', as explained above. If you do, post that you are about to rescue them, and your success rate will be decided through my generator. Everything must have a final decision made through the generator. Your responses will be 'attempts', not set in stone actions. You must not post a second time until I have responded to your post.
The creatures that show up will even have difficulty levels, and will be labeled. You may choose to take on any specific one you want. First come first serve. Remember, if you defeat or capture it, it doesn't mean that it's yours. Mangodile collects captured ones and places them in the corral. Swarms are enraged groups, and they must be tamed. Higher level creatures will be harder to capture, inflict more possible damage to your items or companions, and also drop better loot if defeated.
Sometimes you may find something that will change your companion's appearance, enhance them, change the environment, or affect you yourselves. These various things can range from interactions with the world, interactions with items or books, or interactions with a new encounter or event.
Today there will be a new discovery, though their usefulness will not be known yet. If anyone buys the discovery, I encourage you to take measures that may even seem like roleplay. For example ask questions such as this, but not limited to :
Can I eat this?
Can I interact with it to my creature?
Can I interact with it just for myself?
Can I destroy it?
Can I use it for a recipe?
Can I hold onto it for later?
Can I gift it to someone?
Etc.
 Discoveries are meant to be discovered. I implore you to try new things, but also keep in mind that your actions can fail. Your object can also be destroyed upon a small percentage with any harsh actions you take, such as tearing a piece of whatever the object is, or anything that may imply harm. Though sometimes these actions can spark a discovery, keep that in mind! Even though someone's action may fail does not mean it did not have a hidden effect.
You can only make one action a day, and may only buy one discovery item of each category at a time. Today there will only be one category discovered. More will be found at a later date, and perhaps even be found by users through discoveries later.
Please keep in mind that today's discovery will be limited. Those that get companions will be able to use them with more actions later.
