Thank you for drawing the hands and not hiding them. =) It saddens me when people don't attempt to draw them, so good job! You keep drawing hands. Just between you and me I actually love drawing hands. o3o
I'm not a big fan of the "anime" style, but if that's what you want to do then go for it. But having a good sense of proportion is still very important. So here is a very simple human proportion guideline: [Here]
And you need to draw more from life. Gesture sketching can help you loosen up, and pay more attention to how things really look and feel. You gesture sketch to get the form and the movement of an ob
ject or person (or whatever), not worrying about details.
Blind contour drawing helps too. I like to do them when I don't know what to draw, before I do my gesture sketches. Because it forces me to look at the subject and not pay attention to what I'm putting on paper, which can be a relief sometimes. Sure, blind contours are never going to be perfect, but they're not supposed to be!
Now you seem to have a good sense of tone, on the first drawing you posted. That highlight in the hair pleases me. But it just seems to be missing more contrast. Extreme lights and extreme darks are all the rage when it comes to art. Do you mostly use an HB pencil? I'd recommend getting a 2B and a 4B (or all of the different pencil grades), because sometimes an HB just isn't dark enough.
Your color is also nice, I like how you blend analogous colors. But that said I can't give you any advice concerning colored pencils, since I am terrible at using them. D:
Phew! I hope this is not intimidating! Keep up the good work, I think a few gesture sketches will go a long way.
