I know you're looking for people to draw your fursona, but.. well, since I don't have much time for drawing right now I guess I'll try to help you with the greyness problem instead. xD
The biggest thing for making a photo not look so grey, if you don't have a scanner, is to have plenty of light. P: Either find a really well-lit room or take your picture outside on a bright day. Don't use a camera flash though - that tends to be too bright and make things look washed out in the center.
Once a picture is on the computer I also find it really helpful to take it into a digital program and mess with it. It takes a lot of experimenting to figure out what works best in making an image look nice, but it generally does help. c: Kinda pushes that gap between 'Ew, traditional,' and 'Hey, that's nice.'
When editing an image I pretty much always use some combination of the brightness/contrast, sharpness, and noise reduction tools. If it's a colored drawing I also usually use the hue/saturation tool at some point to fix colors. If it's greyscale I'll use the black-and-white tool before anything else to make sure it's actually black and white.
