TOO LONG? NOT GOING TO READ?
Just read this:
-Send the message as a scanned image via rmail
-You must not sign your name on the message. You may mention other people's names on it, but no surnames.
-About 2 square inches big
-No random or negative messages (see below for criteria for 'random')
-Should be meaningful to you
-It doesn't have to be in English
-Handwritten (if you have a tablet you can do it on the computer)
-You may draw or include a photo YOU TOOK. Do not source anything from the internet.
-Don't write anything that may offend anyone. Especially Muslim people as this is going to be displayed in an Islamic country.
-Please
include your full real name in the rmail (in the textbox) and your
country of origin. Mention your occupation if it's significant to your
message. You may follow up on the message in the rmail just because I'm
curious and it would be enlightening.

For people who like reading:
Alrighty. I shall explain it now because I am not lazy.

I am doing a collection of artpieces that involve trash that I find in random places. It's not normal trash like sweet wrappers or anything. Really, it's trash I deem beautiful. I found this old ratty djembe (a djembe is an African drum). It has been sitting in the back of the art room for nearly 10 years, it was originally used for still life excersizes and has been not been used for this purpose for a few years now as the skin has been torn. So I'm repairing it, getting a new skin for it and refreshing it a bit.

I was thinking about how the djembe was traditionally used for communication between tribes in Africa. I have also been touched by the post it walls in London during the riots. So I wanted to create a 'communicative' piece. Art has always been a form of communication and I feel that some work has lost that key feature (like the Chapman Brothers). I also dislike angst in art immensely. I feel that trying to tell as many people about your 'problems' when they cannot help you in any way futile, making bad art (this is why I don't like Tracy Emin at all). So I want to turn this drum into a post-it wall, perhaps a collaboraive 'quilt' where people communicate what they need to communicate and raise spirits or battle against bad happenings around the world. We need to attempt to make our world better, not just sit there and whine. Whining never achieves anything. I think that this is also a great 'team building' excersize that we can do to bring more appreciation for people around the world and get to know about what everyone else thinks of the world.

This drum is related to this piece:

They're in the same collection.

What do I need you to do then?
I need you to do is write a message. Nothing random or negative. Write something positive. It has to be something you would like to share with everyone. Not just everyone you know, but the whole world. It needs to be handwritten, black and white and about 2 inches by 2 inches big. Scan it and rmail it to me. You are only allowed one so choose your words wisely. You may draw a picture if you like. Just no colours please. You can give in photographs that YOU took. Don't take anything from the internet.

I am going to take your message, print them out and transfer them onto the drum using gel medium. The only reason why I want it black and white is because the gel medium doesn't work with colour images.

What I classify as random?
DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING LIKE THE FOLLOWING PHRASES. This is what you should avoid. If I find your post inappropriate for the piece, I will not include it.

Related to fandom
Examples:
'I love Naruto!'
'Yoai is so awesome!'
'Did you see the last night's episode of Glee?'
'The cake is a lie'
'Britney Spears is so hot!'
'My gamertag is XXXXXX'
'Justin Beiber is homosexual' <- not really fandom but kind of related.

Hipster phrases that don't make any sense or have any meaning:
Examples:
'It's just too hard for me to...'
'Why can't to you understand?'
'I can feel the electricity when you touch me'
'I can finally let go of things'
'It's all over'
'Time passes by so quickly'

General random
Examples:
'I saw a chicken that got run over by a car. How ironic'
'I like pineapples!'

Please. I want something meaningful. Anecdotes that are extremely meaningful or have had a huge impact of your life would be great. I'm sorry, but I do not want anything res related. It may be your life, but the audience won't have a clue what you're talking about.

You must also consider that this will be seen by people of many cultures. The piece is going to be displayed in an Islamic country so you must not write anything that may offend them such as things about fighting against Islamic terrorists or something. I think that you shouldn't write about anything that may insult any religion at all because I don't want anyone to feel hurt and I don't want to get deported.

So what I need you to do is:
-Not mention pigs. Dogs are fine, they're fine with dogs.
-No nude pictures
-No mention of scantily clad people
-Don't insult the burka or Islamic customs
-No anecdotes referring to intimate events with other peoople.
-Don't make hasty generalizations.
-If you know of any way people could insult any culture or religion, don't do that.
-I am buddhist, so don't diss buddhism aight?

So in conclusion, the requirements:
-sent via rmail
-You must not sign your name on the message. You may mention other people's names on it, but no surnames.
-About 2 square inches big
-No random or negative messages
-Should be meaningful to you
-It doesn't have to be in English
-Handwritten (if you have a tablet you can do it on the computer)
-You may draw or include a photo YOU TOOK. Do not source anything from the internet.
-Don't write anything that may offend anyone.
-Please include your full real name in the rmail (in the textbox) and your country of origin. Mention your occupation if it's significant to your message. You may follow up on the message in the rmail just because I'm curious and it would be enlightening.

Thanks guys. It's greatly appreciated that you respond! ;D

So far I have only two messages. One from a South African djembe player and another from a 5 year old who had problems with writing the letter e.

If you have friends or family that would like to participate, they're welcomed to join in!

Okay! I will send something.
Just to make sure I understand correctly, though ...

I can use my tablet to write, as long as it's in black & white. Then, I'm allowed to add a picture that I took, but must it also be in black & white?
Finally, what's 2 inches by 2 inches in pixels? lolol
