“There’s always something to smile about, Alice! Think about it. Another person survived cancer, another child is adopted to loving parents, you got to see another sunset!”
“Danielle, none of those things will happen to me. There’s nothing to smile about.”
“You’re still alive, aren’t you?”
“I’m strapped up to IVs and beeping machines and have a nostril breath thing stuck above my mouth, but yes. I’m alive.”
“Then smile about that. You’ll make it through this, Alice.”
