Riley snorted as she walked through the streets of Adelanto, California. The blistering heat of the day was raining on her mood solely by the fact that she had to go to school today. The silver lenses of her Aviator glasses made a few look her way as she traversed the high school grounds, but in reality, it was her attire and attitude that drew their attention. Her walk was slightly cat-like, delicate strides that seemed to be stalking prey. Her movements were quirky and controlled almost effortlessly. Her black hair rolled down her back in subltle waves, but in the sun, it was impossible to tell the color. The natural copper highlights in her hair seemed to make her locks burn in the sunlight. In the heat of the day, Riley shrugged off her black leather jacket and slung it across her shoulders. This action revealed her low cut, black tank top. Few boys she talked to, when she ever did, would actually meet her gaze. They tended to find their gaze going south of her chin. She ran a hand through her hair, her lightly tanned skin glistening slightly with sweat. The pants she wore were dark blue and ended in tattered cuffs at her black motorcycle boots. Of course, her ride was already in the school's parking lot. She still attempted to smooth down her slight curls with one hand and nearly succeeded. The first bell rang and Riley slipped through the entanglemed of students that were flooding the halls. A fleeting thought of skipping wormed its way into her mind, but she discarded the tempting idea. She passed her locker, too bored to get her supplies for first block class. She rarely needed them anyway. Students parted as she walked through the mesh of bodies, straying inadvertedly from her menacing aura. She ducked her head through the door of her classroom and sat down in the back. A few students followed her with their curious eyes as she walked in, but she was quickly forgotten. Riley pulled off her Aviators and dropped them on the table. The tables in her first block were set up in rows of six; columns of two. No one dared sit by her right at any given day. This was even a problem when partner work was issued, but when Riley wanted to stay isolated, she made sure of it. Her boots skimmed over the ground, the high tables and high chairs allowing for a few inches between her and the ground. She cracked her neck as her teacher, Mr. Smithens, rolled his way into the room. The stout man seemed to be in his fifties, wispy white hair beyond its balding stage. His face seemed to be meshed in upon itself and his light blue eyes were so pale, they seemed almost white. Bored with her observations, Riley kicked back her chair and rested her back against the wall. "And we have a transfer student here today," he began just as another kid walked into the room. Another kid for me to terrorize, I suppose.. Riley though to herself. She ran her gaze up along the kid's lithe build. He wore a navy blue t-shirt that looked worn in some places. His jet black hair was short enough that it didn't hang down in his face. The locks gathered at the front of his head and ended in natural tipped spikes. "This is Felix," Mr. Smithens continued which caused Riley to yawn. "You may have a seat next to Riley in the back," he continued. Riley narrowed her eyes and shifted her feet away from the desk, causing her chair to tip forward again and clack against the linoleum floor. Mr. Smithens met Riley's narrowed eyes and raised his brows at her. I think I need to remind Mr. Smithens who's in charge, Riley growled in her thoughts. Her charcoal black eyes shifted their gaze onto Felix and the boy blinked, his chocolate brown eyes not understanding the girl's hatred. He shuffled his way over to the seat next to her and said a hushed, "hi." Riley snorted and snatched her Aviators off of the table. The silver lenses covered her eyes just before the crimson ring of anger settled around her black irises.

He refused to leave her alone. That pissed Riley off. The dark-haired girl tilted her head slightly to the right and turned to look at him, her mouth set in a grim line. "Aviators, aren't they?" he asked her once again, his eyes clearly intent on getting an answer from her. Riley ran a hand through her hair and shook out a few snarled curls. The day had took a rather humid turn and her hair was beginning to frizz up. "Yes," she responded through gritted teeth. "Yes, they are Aviators." She snuck a glance at him through her shades and was surprised to see a smug grin creeping over his lips. "What are you so complacent about?" she growled and held back a groan. Of course, she had set her up with more interaction from the boy. He gave her a lopsided grin. "I was just thinking that you're not as bad as you look. Tough girl with a soft side, I suppose." At this, Riley's eyes burned a dark crimson, the blacks of her eyes swallowed up by the blood-red color. She stifled back a hiss and instead, snatched her glasses off of her face. She flung them down on the table where they skittered over to him. He blinked once as the color of her eyes registered in his mind. "What?" he began, but she had already snatched her glasses off the table and was out of her seat. Mr. Smithens looked up from his lecture, blinked once, and shrugged it off. The elder teacher knew there was no stopping Riley when she left and her stiff movements seemed to emanate her anger. Some of the students recoiled as she walked by. Her hand was on the doorknob when he spoke out above the din of Mr. Smithens' monotone voice. "You'll be back tomorrow, right?" Riley stiffened. The whole class had gone silent; watching her. She flung open the door and hesitated once, the words slipping from her mouth before she could stop them. "Yes." she said. "Yes, I will." --- She practically raced across the student parking lot, her motorcycle boots smacking against the heated concrete. She found her motorcycle amidst the sea of pitiful cars. Most of the student body couldn't afford a good ride. Of course, Riley could, but she preffered her cycle more. She slung her leg over the side and kicked out the kickstand. Shoving her keys into the ignition, she revved the engine. A wicked smile played on her lips as the roar of the engine sounded in her ears. She released the clutch and the cycle shot forward dangerously to another car. She took a sharp turn to the right, almost tipping the bike in the process. Her face was smooth and calm as she wove dangerously through the other cars. The humid wind howled at her face and wove its way through her hair. It almost felt like flying. Almost.

The breeze stroked its way across the sky and caused Riley's hair to lift momentarily. She shook out her dark locks and plopped her elbows onto her knees. Her bike was on its side to her right, glossy black paint shining in the dim sunlight. Her boots hung off the edge of a cliff and from what Riley suspected, was probably at least fifteen stories high. She paid no attention to the fact and leaned most of her body weight over the cliff. "I wish it were easy enough to just throw myself off," she muttered to herself as she pictured the sight of her mangled body on the ground below. She contemplated attempting to do it, but she knew that instinct would win itself out. Not to mention, the fall at this measly height probably wouldn't scathe her. She ran a hand through her hair and watched the sunset as it faded over the horizon. She blew a few strands of dark hair out of her face. She had messed up badly and she knew that pretty well. Instead of wallowing in self pity any longer, Riley shoved the dark thoughts to the back of her mind and pushed herself up. She glided over to her bike and picked it up with ease. After revving the engine again, she popped herself into a wheelie before careening into the forest again.

You'll be back tomorrow, right? The voice kept replaying itself in her head as Riley sat on her bed. Whilst tracing a crack on the ceiling, she found herself sitting up, puzzlement splayed on her face. Tomorrow. Today was Saturday so of course, Felix must have meant Monday when he said if she'd be back. Sighing, Riley picked up a tennis ball and threw it half-heartedly at her bedroom wall. It hit with a smack and bounced its way back to her. She let out a large breath, her hair blowing out beside her, as she fell back onto her bed. She fingered the green tennis ball above her head and contemplated {Not done :P}

Thanks Sona. (: I think I'm going to start rping Riley, but I don't have a last name for her yet. xD She figured there was nothig else to lose as she dropped the tennis ball onto the ground. Roaming around in the school parking lot for a few minutes really wouldn't do her any harm. The only thing left to confuse and greatly irritate Riley was the fact that she wanted to go. After slipping a crimson tank top over her head, she crept out of her small apartment. She walked down the hall and took the stairs by twos. She quickly found her way into the parking lot for the apartments. Her bare legs slid over the sleek black seat of the bike, the girl's short shorts riding up rather dangerously. She glanced down at her attire and only chuckled as she slipped her Aviators onto the bridge of her nose. She flicked her black hair behind her and kicked the bike into gear. The soft purr of the engine quickly fired into a oar. She sped out onto the road and found her typical gloomy spirit lifting a bit. Clouds covered the sky, puffy tendrils of gray that hung suspended in the air. Rain wasn't ropping yet, but the soft atmosphere the covering of clouds provided was what Riley favored over the usual harsh sunlight of California. A raindrop splattered on her nose as she mosied her way into the school parking lot. She shook out her slightly damp and frizzy hair as more raindrops fell down on her. Riley's dark eyes scanned the parking lot; it seemed a desolate wasteland to her. The absence of assorted cars that would normally overflow the lot had vanished. She snorted when a beat up blue Honda Civic trudged its way into the lot. Riley cut the gas on the bike and shoved the kickstand into the ground. She pulled her leg off of the side and leaned against the seat, her feet barely needing to support her. The Honda mad its way toward her and as it approached, the driver rolled his window down. "You came," he said, surprise slightly woven into the statement. "I did," she replied, her brows arching with slight contempt. Felix laughed and pointed a finger at her motorcycle. "Nice ride. Should have known you were the type of girl to own one of those," he said and Riley brushed her hair out of her eyes impatiently. "What do you want?" she asked, ignoring the supposed compliment. "To know why you hate everyone and everything," he said simply with a slight tilt to his head. Riley blinked, not comprehending the straightforward response as an actual answer. She quickly gained her ground and decided to peel herself from her bike and lean against his car instead. He didn't recoil when she dipped her head into the car, black eyes smoldering with anger. "I'm a dangerous person, Felix. I don't talk about touchy subjects lightly," she said and contemplated her thoughts for a moment. She decided she may as well answer his question. "I try not to trifle with matters involving hatred. Imerely stay out of the way so everyone stays out of mine. Do not assume anything about me," she hissed threateningly. She couldn't help but feel a bit smug as terror danced in Felix's dark brown eyes. She began to pull back, but he put his hand onher shoulder to stop her. "Don't go," he said and Riley sighed, suddenly feeling drained of energy. Her life was already complicated enough without the persistant irritation this boy was causing her. She realized in a sudden rush that the rain had picked up its tempo. Suddenly, buckets of raindrops came pouring down fom the sky and quickly doused her clothes. "Damn it," she sputtered as her clothing stuck to her skin. She head the click of the locks on the Honda's door and she glanced up sharply. Felix gave her a raw smile and pushed something through the window. A tarp. She glanced at it for a moment before her lips curled up into a snarl. "You knew," she hissed and Felix held his hands up in mock defense, laughter playing in his eyes. "I doubt anyone's going to steal it seeing as you'd probably rip their throats out," he said with brows arched, obviously expecting her to reject the statement. Riley shot him a toothy grin that seemed to say, 'you know it.' She slipped the tarp over the bike and hesitated before rounding the car. She pulled herself into the passenger side and leaned back, sogged clothes rubbing uncomfortably against her skin. Felix frowned as he looked her over and Riley raised her brows questioningly. "Aren't you cold? You're not shivering," he said and Riley shook her head. "Don't feel cold, I guess." she said and Felix nodded before shaking his head.

Wow, Riley seems awesome. I love this! She reminds me of someone though, I can't place it... Anyways I'm waiting for more. I wanna see how this works out. If you ever make her a character that would be super fun, her actions are entertaining. (That Felix kid is annoying. I just felt the need to say that XP)

Riley's now been turned into one of my characters. ;D And yuh, Felix is annoying. x3 An hour later and they were still sitting in the beat-up Honda; Riley figured they were driving around aimlessly as she watched the same street sign indicating Beater's Street, flashed by for the sixth time. She squirmed around in her seat, her damp back making her extremely uncomfortable and because of the water, the skin began to itch. She reached a hand up under her back and scratched at the skin, her knuckles brushing against wet feathers in the process. Sighing, she kept her hands on her lap and left her gaze to wander out the window. All she wanted as of now was to get home, stretch herself out to dry off, and crawl into bed. They stayed silent for quite some time after that, but when Riley spotted the Beater's Street sign again, she shifted her eyes on Felix. "How long do you plan on riding around in a circle?" she asked, her voice sharp. Felix glanced at her for a moment and that was all it took for him to miss the green car that swerved in front of him. Riley's reflexes reacted immediately and time seemed to slow down for her. With incredible speed, she flung open her passenger door, snagged Felix's arm, and wrenched him out of the car after him. She released him when they flew through the air and the girl tucked herself in and rolled flat out onto the concrete. She landed in a crouched position, eyes narrowed as the cars connected. The front of the Honda smashed, the windshield shattered, and the back of the car lifted up dangerously for a few moments. Riley stood quickly and she saw Felix lying slumped on the ground. She cursed under her breath and ran up to him. When she patted his cheek, she saw his side had been cut up a bit, but not too badly. He blinked at her with brown eyes that closely resembled a frightened deer's. Wide-eyed, he stuttered; "H-how did you--We were," he mumbled, tongue-tied. Riley snorted and stood, her elegant form standing erect as she glowered down at him. "Watch where you're going next time," she snapped. Her boots clicked on the rain-soaked ground as she walked away from the scene. She heard a grunt as Felix pushed himself up off the ground and she knew he would pursue her. No matter, she thought sorrowfully as she walked into a darkened alleyway. She closed her eyes and unfolded her wings, the dark purple feathers sliding through her clothes as if the fabric didn't exist. She wrapped her wings around herself and stepped near the wall. Felix walked into the alleyway and she watched with dark eyes as he sauntered right past her. When he disappeared around the corner, she stepped away from the wall, tendrils of darkness still clinging to her form. Her dark hair was plastered around her face as she walked back to the wreck. She heard the sirens of police cars yet she kept herself going toward the crash. When she peered through the driver's side window, there was no one there. Her form froze as she stared at the driver's seat in horror. With shaking hands, she slid her arm through the window to grasp the ob ject that was on the seat. With nimble hands, she turned the ob ject around in her hands. The pure white feather began to droop under the influence of the rain. Riley's eyes burned a dark crimson and she let out a sharp hiss; tendrils of darkness burst from her fingertips and engulfed the feather. It was eaten by the shadow fire quickly and when Riley unclenched her hands, nothing but dust scattered to the ground. The police had arrived and she vaguely heard them ordering her to stop. She paid no mind and instead, walked right past the cop who warned he would shoot her. Nothing mattered to her now. When the rain doused the sight of the mortals, she flung out her wings and let herself become wrapped in the shadows she had for so long tried to run away from.

"Stupid, incompetent, irresponsible..." the list of words that ran out of Riley's mouth continued as she stomped over to her motorcycle. She kicked at the muddied ground, her black boots splattering with wet dirt. She hissed angrily, eyes burning a dark crimson. She could feel the burn as they changed colors and she hated it. She hated what she was becoming and she hated that she was alone. Curse words began to mingle in her already incomprehensible dialect. She threw herself over the bike and tried to ignore the pulsing shadows that stretched from her clenched hands and onto the motorcycle. Her wings shuffled anxiously on her back and she cried out as the engine roared, blocking out her yell. As soon as the outburst had come, it stopped. Riley forced herself to calm down even though she could feel it rolling around inside of her. "Stop it." she muttered to herself. She drove the bike out onto the road and took the back way to her apartment. Finally fed up with everything, she hopped off of the bike while it was still running, though it was at a slow crawl. The thing continued for a few feet before flopping loudly over on its side. The paint on the right side was ruined, but Riley just kept walking up to the aparments. She trudged her way up the stairs and fumbled with the lock on the door. When she pushed open the door, she gasped as the lingering shadows rushed back and deserted her. She doubled over, clutching her stomach from the sudden detatchment. Someone wrapped their arms around her and led her into the room. His strong arms wound around her and he pulled her into his lap as she gasped for air. When she forced open her eyes, the man before her was instantly recognized. Riley's eyes, now a striking blue, narrowed when she looked at him. She forced herself out of his arms and stumbled backward. She backed into the wall and when he made no inclination to come after her, she slumped down to the ground. "How dare you come back, Jay." she hissed, thoughts turning to turmoil in her mind. The man rested his hands on his lap and looked Riley over with light purple eyes. He frowned when Riley's half unfolded wings poked out through her clothes and he caught site of the black feathers. He ran a hand through his hair before speaking. "You're worse off than before, aren't you? They can sense it, Rye. You thought you escaped? No. They're coming," he said with exasperation as he sighed and leaned back against the couch. "You always thought you could run from it, but you can't." Riley closed her eyes and folded her hands over her face. Tears refused to spring from her eyes. Only an empty feeling of dread spiked its way through her heart. She knew she would never have been able to run, but she hadn't known the shadows had taken hold so quickly. She had barely had time to react. "Jay, you know this is wrong. I've never hurt anyone since-" she began, but Jay cut her off with a glare. "Rye, you should have listened to me before this happened. They won't let one of you live," he snarled. Riley pushed herself up to her feet, new strength seeming to pour into her limbs. She had run from them for so long when her fate had changed. Now, she was supposed to suffer for consequences even she didn't understand? No, Riley would stand and fight. "Get out of here, Jay. God damn it, get out of here. Let them come, Jay. I swear, when they come, I'll destroy all of them." she muttered dangerously, her blue eyes now seeping with black color. The man, Jay, rose to his feet and cupped Riley's face with his hands. He stroked her cheeks and pushed the shadows away from her as he enfolded his stark white wings around her. "I always loved you, Rye. You know that, but I never could have saved you." he murmured as he kissed her forehead. Riley pushed him away. "If you really loved me, then you would have ran away with me. Now get away from me, you piece of filth," she said as she shoved him away. Jay stood, shocked, but it lasted only a moment. He watched as the shadows filtered into the room, parting around him, and clinging to Riley's skin. She absorbed them quickly, her blue eyes becoming dark black again. "What have you done to yourself," Jay murmured as he shook his head. Before Riley could respond, he was gone. The only trace of him was a single white feather that floated slowly down to the ground.

Yvaine, thanks for reading most of my work. I'm glad you enjoy my writing. ^^ Riley groaned as another knock was heard on her apartment door. She already knew who it was from looking through the peep-hole a half hour earlier. Apparently, Felix had roamed around the area looking for her bike and she had stupidly left it out of the garage in plain sight. Another knock and she snarled in frustration, black wings flaring out at her sides. "Get out of here, Felix," she hissed, black shadows swirling around her hands. She glanced down at the darkness hatefully and attempted to fling it away from her, but the things kept creeping back, molding into her skin. She sighed, stretched her wings out to their full extent, tipping over a bunch of things in her room, and rested on her stomach. Her black feathers curled against the wall and the others dipped to the floor. When another knock came, she smacked one wing forcefully against the wall. "Damn it, Felix." She pushed herself off of the bed, giving up on the hope he would leave her alone. She had half a mind to open the door with the shadows seething around her and her wings outstretched in an attempt to scare him off. She opened the door and met his frustrated face, one fist raised and ready to strike the wood again. He blinked once and attempted to compose himself while Riley leaned against the door frame, wings tucked crudely behind her back. "Yes, Felix?" she asked through gritted teeth, malice dripping from her tone. "I want answers," he said and Riley half expected him to barge right into her house or something along the lines. "And you think I have answers?" she asked tiredly. "No, I know you have answers," he remarked. "I don't want to talk and I don't want you here," she said simply, black eyes glowing with malevolance. "I don't want to leave until I get answers." "I'll call the cops." "You won't," he challenged and Riley arched her brows at him before slamming the door in his face. She hoped that would rid him of her presence, but instead, he opened the door and walked right in. "You're a creep," she said, but sank down to her crouch with her slender hands on her temples. She rubbed in small circles in an attempt to rid herself of this ridiculous headache that was Felix. "And you're a superhuman or something," he said as he sat on the couch opposite of her. Riley sat up sharply and glanced at the boy, suddenly taking in his appearance all over again. His black hair was tousled in its typical appearance and natural spikes gathered at the tips. His wide cheekbones led to soft brown eyes that were pleading with her. Something about the familiarity of him sitting across from her made Riley's stomach churn; not good. "Why haven't you called the police and told them to lock me up or whatever it is they do with superhumans?" she mocked. Felix ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "Because I feel like I know you," he said, but his brown gaze wasn't on her. He was staring out the window to her apartment and an awkward silence followed after the statement. He thought for a moment, mulling the words aorund on his tongue before speaking. He still refused to look at her. "When I first saw you that day in class, I thought I knew you. I could have sworn I remembered seeing you somewhere else, but you're...different than before." Riley closed her eyes and let her head fall into her hands. He shouldn't be back. It was impossible, had always been impossible. "Felix. You do know me." "What?" "But not in this life."

Lol, I don't actually think Felix is all that annoying, but I know pretty much everyone else who has read does! I quite like Felix :3 Also I know this might sound cheeky, but would you like to give my story a read? As you are clearly a talented writer I'd really appreciate your feedback!
