Urg, not those again.
I highly suggest you do some research for stories, find out new mythical beings that are NOT the same old dragons, faeries, vampires and whatnot. While books are of course more reliable you can also use sites like:

...and good ol' fashion wikipedia. This is only if you want to use mythical creatures in your stories of course. Yes, you can use vampires and them but it helps to know a thing or two about them so that you can try and create something original.
Now as for the main character, avoid the 'mary-sue' stereotypes, with the tragic past, devasting beauty, blah. 'Course they're not too bad so long as they don't sound tacky :P
Do research about time periods as well, do you want medieval, steampunk, futuristic, etc. While you would probably create a whole new world it does help to get a gist on what it made seem.
Read books by fantasy/adventure writers to get a lil' inspiration. Mind you, try not to take their ideas and do something original.
Yeah, thes aren't really ideas but suggestions on how to get ideas I think xD I don't know what you look for or what sparks your interest so yeah.
