I opened my dreary eyes, shaking my head to clear it. Brindlepaw's steady snoring was heard from his moss nest on the other side of the apprentices' den, and I purred. What a mouse-brain, I thought while getting up. I padded over to Brindlepaw's nest, and shook his flank impatiently.
"Wake up, Brinndlepaw! Foxtail and Twigpelt are waiting for us!" I hissed.
"Can't we have training later, Oakpaw? I'm exhausted," Brindlepaw complained.
"Oh yeah, fish-fur? Let's see how you ca handle this!" I mewed. I reared up on my hind legs and pounced on Brindlepaw's still reclining body.
"Mrooow!" he yowled, but jumped up and was quick to retaliate. We tussled on his bed for several moments when a ginger face popped around the entrance.
Foxtail!
"Just what do you two cats think you're doing? It's almost sunhigh! Did you expect me to wait for you two?" he growled, but I knew he wasn't that mad, and was quick to think of something.
"Er, we were, um, practicing the pouncing techniques you and Twigtail showed us, so, er, we were good enough," he mewed, looking down at his paws. Brindlepaw nodded stupidly in agreement.
"Oh, what shall I do with you two mouse-brains? Come, Twigtail will be waiting." Foxtail turned and flicked his bushy tail for the apprentices to follow.
