Cara sat at her windowseat, gazing out into the darkness that had enveloped the sky in a cold embrace, and wouldn't relquish its grasp until the sun awoke from its slumber and burnt the darkness into a bright clear blue that signified morning. Cara was feeling very much like the sky outside, smothered in darkness. She sat, her eyes glistening with tears that fell like coins being dropped into water, sliding down her cheeks and landing in her lap. Her whole body was shaking with her sobs, which were muted so her parents wouldnt hear. Cara was four years old.
She had returned from another day at school, another day of Mik. Mik was in her cl*censored* and had chosen Cara as his victim from the moment he'd layed eyes on her. Blue eyes, blonde hair... Just a fragile, weak little girl. You may think that these thoughts are a little to sophisticated for children but it was for that reason no one had taken Mik seriously, or heard Cara when she cried.
Out of her window she saw a flash of light. Cara looked up, brushing away her tears to stare where the light had come from. There! It happened again, it was the reflection of the lake that resided just outside Cara'a backgarden. It looked beautiful. If Cara concentrated, which she did, she could see the light reflecting on the rippled that danced around its surface in the moonlight. They seemed overjoyed at the privacy the night had granted it. Each time a slither of light touched the lak it seemed to sparkle silver, and beckon Cara to it. It looked so magical that before she fully realised what she was doing Cara had opened her window and climbed outside.
This in a normal house would have resorted in Cara's death and therefore put an end to a not too cheerful beginning. However Cara and her parents lived in a bungalow (A one story house) so climbing out of her window, even at four years of age, was a piece of cake. She landed on her feet, wearing her white nightgown she looked like a ghost, wandering towards the silver dancers that twirlled and twisted faster as Cara drew closer like they were delighted to see the child. Which comforted Cara so much that she sat at the lake's edge and lent forward to kiss the surface of the water.
It tasted sweet and welcoming and so full of joy that Cara giggled, and gazed deeping into its depths. It looked like staring into a diamond, sparkling reflections and a bottomless perfection that left Cara breathless. She sat back and slowly, gently slipped her legs into it depths. The cold shocked her for a second but then she sighed. It felt like sliding your legs through silk, so soft and safe. She waved her legs in the water and the dancers appeared, circling around her legs laughing with the child at the ghostly paleness of her limbs.
Cara stroked the surface with one finger and whispered
"Friend" The word tasted like honey had just been trickled into her mouth. Cara Smiled.
