Did you have more than one tab while exploring? When you pick up an egg it gives you the last egg you found; so if you had multiple tabs open and refreshed on one of them before picking up the egg you wanted, it may have given you an egg from another tab instead of the one you were on. However if you believe this to be an error it's always best to send in a support ticket where they can check your logs for you :)
As for the botanist quest are you sure you picked up the correct flower he was asking for? Are you also sure you haven't picked up ANY flowers at all? I just checked and it allowed me to pick up a flower and also turn one in; though I had to buy it from a merchant shop as I didn't have the one he wanted today. Again, if you believe this to be an error it's best to send in a support ticket! I hope I was able to be of assistance to you though! Good luck!
