Auction Sniping

Can we please find out a way to prevent sniping in the auctions. More specifically pet auctions, as I don't believe I've experienced it as much in item auctions. It's mildly annoying.

By the way, sniping is "the act of bidding on an item literally seconds before the auction ends. This prevents anyone from outbidding you while also ensuring that you don't bump the price up too much"

I'm not even sure if I'm just being mildly annoyed for no reason, or this isn't even a problem that needs solving.

Anyway, I would personally suggest having an extra timer (max 5min?) to the auctions that doesn't show up to anyone except the host of the auction...but hey, whatever works is cool too.

that will not work. cause people will just bid on the last second of
the last 5 min.

so no matter what you do..
the ones that keep an eye on auctions..like a hawk.
will win, when they are fast enough, means they want
that item or pet enough.

no support.

What I mean is that other users cannot see this extra timer.

So lets say this auction ends at 12...actually nevermind...

Maybe a timer that's at max 5min early?

I don't know, I need help to refine the idea though. It would be nice to get other ideas.

but its not fair to the sellers.
if they can get a higher bid,
they should get it.

I understand that, but the notion of someone taking something that you thought you had at the last second is just displeasing to me.

I dunno, I'm just frustrated because this has happened to me on so many occasions.

that's why you have to out-ninja the auction ninjas!

Maybe if a bid is placed in the last five minutes, the auction gets extended an extra 10 minutes or something? I have seen this system in place on other auctions elsewhere :)

Hm...that seems a bit more doable than my idea...maybe shorten the extended time a bit.

I think adding a couple of extra minutes onto the timer after a bid is placed would be a decent idea to consider

I don't support.
If you're participating in auctions, you're gonna see this no matter what.
And even if a 5min early finish were to be in place, users will simply bid 5mins earlier than they plan to, which would defeat the purpose altogether.
Auctions, no matter what type, are always going to have quick last minute snipers, and there's really nothing you can do about that, unfortunately.

I don't support this. No matter who wins, someone else is going to be disappointed. There can be only one winner. That's the point of an auction. I've got into some heated last-minute bidding wars with other players before. Some I've won, some I've lost. I'm always disappointed for a second when I lose, but then I think, "hey congrats other user, you got me!" and I move on. There's no use pouting about it. Heck, it can even be fun!

I don't support adding time either. It defeats the purpose of even having an end time. If you want to sell auction-style with malleable end times, in order to squeeze every last drop out of your buyer, make a Sales thread. These types of threads are already quite prevalent. Auction end times get extended again and again and it gets quite frustrating for all involved. I prefer the site Auctions with concrete end times so I don't have to deal with that nonsense.

In essence, I don't believe this is a problem that needs solving. Good sportsmanship includes knowing how to be a gracious loser. I also agree with MissHalloween to try becoming the sniper. If it's something you really want, then you really need to be there bidding for it.

No support. Sniping is part of the fun of the game when it comes to auctions. Yes it is frustrating sometimes when you want to win, but if you really, REALLY want to win, put a huge bid out there that will guarantee it, or as close to "guarantee" as possible! ;)
