But was the old way not a lottery system/luck anyway? You just happen to be up at the precise right time?
Beyond people being able to choose to stay up at random times/wake up whenever, it's vastly unfair to the userbase that works (and I'd like to throw in that I am willing to bet a large majority of users have jobs they need). Sacrificing a job for an online game feels like forming a really bad and unhealthy habit, so why shouldn't Res try to eliminate that?
To add on to that, just because it makes user A treasure a name more because they worked hard for it, it also has a chain reaction of making user B extra upset that they essentially wasted hours of sleep and potentially days of work to try and get a name just to not get it anyway. A raffle like this would eliminate any potential of that happening, and it can be just a "oh well, I'll move on/try to see if the user will sell" type of thing rather than a heartwrenching loss of time and purpose.
What I agree with about this suggestion is it being a tu sink, as I don't think this is the correct way to handle it. It still bars new users or users who don't have the tu to spend to lose out on high value things, and still keeps those that can continually make a lot of tu making a lot of tu.
What I think could happen instead, without knowing the tu cost, is that users are limited to choosing three (or whatever number) of creatu to add a raffle ticket to per clearing.
