okay so I've had a while to think about this and I may be in the minority but I greatly prefer the old method

I've seen multiple users weigh in on the fact that the old method allowed those that really, really cherished a name to put in the effort to get the name and I couldn't agree more. Name clearings have always been an event that the majority of the userbase literally plans ahead for for weeks and it's a huge sb hangout  and now it just seems like your new tu sink. I completely get that the major issue for you guys was that users were staying up and compromising their sleep schedules but the reality is that that is their autonomous decision. People will stay up all the time to catch time specific livestreams, game announcements, even merch drops from their favorite fandom and it is 100% done out of their free will and because said thing is significant to them. The new method is honestly just "hey everyone put their name in this box and we'll shake it and if you're lucky you'll get a prize! :)" which is just...a huge no. Yeah staying up is unhealthy but what about the mountains of anxiety that will come from waiting a whole week to see if you won a name that was significant to you when you have a 0.7% chance if more than 200 people also put in a ticket. Maybe if we were given more than one ticket or x amount of tickets to allocate appropriately so that we could prioritize names but with only one entry allowed per person your chances are honestly slim to none lmao.

The new method just seems extremely disheartening and honestly kind of a heartbreaking announcement for those that have been prepping and waiting years for the next clearing. I get that the economy is suffering but I don't think that this is the way to fix it.

+1 Totally agree with Shini.

Copying my feedback in the updates here.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I'd like to put it out there that I prefer the old name clearing mechanism atm. The old mechanism allows players who really want the name to put in the effort of staying up late regardless of timezones. So they probably deserve and really treasure the name (not saying this applies to everyone). If the previous painpoint was to make the mechanism more balanced for users in different timezones, then why not have multiple name clearings at different specified times (timing and specific names cleared are communicated beforehand) or even put a cap on the number of names that users can grab per clearing? This saves users sleeptime as they just have to set an alarm before the scheduled clearing for the names that they want. Don't get me wrong, I was also up in wee hours of the night for hours without sleep while I had school/work early in the morning next day, just to grab some of the names I really wanted. This effort made me treasure the names even more and though it made the name clearings more competitive, it also increased the challenge and fun of it. The new mechanism relies on "luck". This is a very uncontrollable and intangible method as compared to "effort". I'd like the mechanism to be something I have more control over. I won't feel as disappointed in failing to get a name due to "effort" than "luck". It also begs the question of transparency, how will the raffles be conducted to ensure fairness for all users? Can we be sure that the raffle algorithm is fair for all? Let's say 140 users (half of all users in the past 24 hours) all raffle for the same popular name, your chances of getting the name is 0.7%. You'll have a much higher chance of getting the same name with the old mechanism because some users might prioritise other names first, site lag or whatever. Just trying to raise my views here, please don't burn me ^^"

But was the old way not a lottery system/luck anyway? You just happen to be up at the precise right time?

Beyond people being able to choose to stay up at random times/wake up whenever, it's vastly unfair to the userbase that works (and I'd like to throw in that I am willing to bet a large majority of users have jobs they need). Sacrificing a job for an online game feels like forming a really bad and unhealthy habit, so why shouldn't Res try to eliminate that?
To add on to that, just because it makes user A treasure a name more because they worked hard for it, it also has a chain reaction of making user B extra upset that they essentially wasted hours of sleep and potentially days of work to try and get a name just to not get it anyway. A raffle like this would eliminate any potential of that happening, and it can be just a "oh well, I'll move on/try to see if the user will sell" type of thing rather than a heartwrenching loss of time and purpose.

What I agree with about this suggestion is it being a tu sink, as I don't think this is the correct way to handle it. It still bars new users or users who don't have the tu to spend to lose out on high value things, and still keeps those that can continually make a lot of tu making a lot of tu.

What I think could happen instead, without knowing the tu cost, is that users are limited to choosing three (or whatever number) of creatu to add a raffle ticket to per clearing.
