Thanks for your responses, they're definitely interesting.
This isn't my site, so the outcome of this topic isn't anything I care about overly much. ^^;
As you've pointed out the random tu piles make up for interest.
There is also the stock market, which is fun to play with.
But for the sake of discussion, I feel the need to point out that being rich or richER doesn't make a person refuse to spend money. Actually, world economies rely on the existence of rich people. The more money they have, the more they are likely to spend on unnecessary niceties. They are also more likely to employ others less fortunate than themselves.
Granted, on Rescreatu, a person doesn't have to pay for rent, or pay for a person to maintain your lawn, or buy a house, or pay for electricity or water. These basic needs are the driving forces of a real economy.
But Rescreatu does have all sorts of luxuries a rich player would want to spend on.
Rare pet eggs, color changing jelly beans, recipe cards, hard to get items, items out of circulation....
I'd like to point out that as a new player, it would in my opinion benefit me more to have more rich players on the site. I have all sorts of really cool items in my account, but no one to sell them to. I could sell them for a very low price, but for such prices, I would much rather keep them. And so ... the cycle of poverty propagates itself, much the same way it does in the real world.
Ultimately, I am more likely to save more tu for longer than I otherwise would WITHOUT interest than I am WITH interest because it's going to take me longer to save tu to begin with. The point here being: I'm going to save my tu and not spend it regardless of any interest rate. How long it takes me to save tu is up to the game.
"Bank interest would work against poorer players as the wealthy become less likely to spend. Pretty much everyone will become less likely to spend."
What's interesting about this quote is that there is an economic case study for this going on continually. In summary, if a person grows up having no wealth, they are more likely to save their wealth for long periods of time, perhaps never spending it. But if a person is raised rich, they are more likely to spend everything they have.
Example: Depression era elderly Americans as compared to their children who did not grow up during a time of economic woe.
Another Example: Contemporary Chinese. As their country gains in wealth and their citizens wages rise, those who grew up with nothing are saving a lot. Will their children spend or save? There is a lot of world economy hedged around their children reversing the save trend and beginning to spend.
Additionally, what would Bill Gates do?
Hoard his tu?
Or begin paying new users for their hatches?
Or pay his Respals to spend their time hunting for rare eggs for him?
Bill Gates would know he's going to make better money by paying others to work for him so that he can find rarer pets faster and then sell more of them for a bigger profit.

//// sorry. I just couldn't leave the topic as it was. The site and its makers can do whatever they want, interest, no interest, CDs, no CDs ...
This is in no way a complete argument on economics.
But I just couldn't leave it because I have a big fat mouth.
