I'm proposing that the code for the halloween egg hunt be changed to allow for keyboard operation.
I understand that you might claim exemption from the WCAG guidance on a similar basis to a game like "spot the difference" but personally I'm a huge believer of "progress over perfection" with a11y and some functionality is better than none!
Granular suggestions:
- Reinstate focus outline and reinstate focus for interactive items inside the "scene" i.e. the onward journey + any items that appear
- When the scene reloads on the fly, re-focus the user on the explore onward and allow backward navigation to any items that appeared in the scene
User story:
Given I am a keyboard-only user
When I visit the egg hunt explore page
Then I am able to use the tab key to navigate to the Explore Onward link and use Enter
And Then I am able to use tab + shift and Enter to navigate back to collect any items in the scene
And I am able to see a focus outline when my focus is on an item or the Explore Onward link
I don't honestly think this will impact the challenge associated with "spotting" the items. If anything, going back with keyboard is more of a chore than clicking.
It would, however, allow for combined modes of access and make people's lives easier - e.g. use keyboard to hit Onward and mouse to collect items.
Also pls extend to the other similar things. And maybe consider if it's feasible to make at least some games screenreader compatible :D Everyone deserves equitable experiences (although I understand it might come under unreasonable burden for a site as small as Res).
