Ah well. She's right. Showrooms are basically free caretaking things. The pet may not age, but hey. That's just a small price you have to pay.
Even being obsessed with pet ages, I do find it useful to sometimes put those pets away. It's a small loss that keeps them from climbing up the age ladder as quickly, but it does help if you're not going to be here for a while.
And if you're just going to be away for a short time, feed them manually up to full before you go. I do this once a week and every time I'm going to be gone for a few days. Have been for a long time now - more than a year. I've had about twenty pets the entire time.
Trust me. It's not that bad. xD Just use multiple tabs - one for inventory and one for profile.
You can also try to get ahold of an infinite item, which are pretty much godsends for feeding, even if they can't be put in the food pen. Kir's selling one, actually - the mushroom mountain.
Or you can just buy things that start with letters at the beginning of the alphabet. That way it shouldn't be much of a pain at all to keep finding them in your inventory to use. Then after your pets are all full, you can throw things into your food pen if you want, to keep them full longer.
