Here's how I got the idea, and what the creatu is.
This creatu is ancient, and in it's adult form, it grows to be so old that the horns along the whole of it's back grow and connect to each other, and often vines and plants will root themselves in the beast's fur, twining around said horns. The creatu is thought to be a god of nature, a horse-like creature that roams the depths of only certain forests that have been untouched by human hands. Eggs are found only once every so often, which makes them extremely scarce and expensive. The markings on the creatu's face are said to portray the sun and the moon, and the harmony that exists between night and day - some believe that this beast protects what peace is left in the world.
I got the vines and plants from the fact that Sloths move so slowly that moss and algae grow in their fur. :D I suppose if you lived long enough plants would just roam over you too. xD
