I thought I'd make a seperate forum for this. I didn't find any about this, but if staff find one feel free to lock/delete this topic.

 

Creatu culling in this case is "The ability to delete a creatu permanently from the site."

 

Pros-

-Would increase the cost of the more common creatu. (This would also require egg rarity to be raised to work to full potential)

- Would save a great deal of server space and memory, and would likely reduce lag at least a little bit. Every day many, many new creatu are created, named badly, then forested, put in shops, showrooms, or left on profiles. These take up a lot of room on the server over time.

- We could finnaly rid ourself of all those 10tu creatu in shops.

- We could 'clense' the forest as well. Adopting the creatu with undesireable names and deleting them would help raise prices and you would, over time, begin to find more decent names in the forest.

- We could delete the pets we receive when trading. Whenever I get a junk pet through trading, I either have to forest it or wait for it to die, if I could delete it, it would make trading a lot more efficient. Even a 'send creatu to' function would work as well.

 

Cons-

-Would likely not raise the value of seasonals and CS, because the chances of someone deleting one of those are...low to say the least.

-Less pets in circulation means the prices of some pets may rise to undesireable levels. Such as, nattie malals at 500k.This wouldslow the market quite a bit, actually, because people would feel more inclined to just look for the eggs than buy the pet.

 

There's also a lot less TU incirculation lately, I'm not sure why, but there have been more people buying from the NPC shops lately, especially in the BM, general store, etc. Egg quests with higher payout would make eggs more rare and at the same time get more TU in circulation, thus, stimulating the buying and selling of creatu.

More TU= more sales.

 Feel free to post more pros/cons and debate this topic with me. I'm eager to learn what others think on the topic of creatu culling. This would need other modifications to work, of course, such as eggs being rarer, pets being deleted when p*censored*ed by in the forest, egg quests with higher payout, seasonal eggs being a bit more rare, and etc.

 

In my honest opinion, I think the best way to go would be to re-activate the deleted creatu in the forest. It's the easiest option right now, (Sine the forest already exists, you get TU from dumping pets, and it's simple to dump a lot at once) and imo the best, because it's very hard to abuse it. For now, though, I'd just likw to know your thoughts on a deletion option. c:

Since res works by a system of unique names, it's completely different from Wajas and stuff. This can work on Wajas, not Res.

I see both bad things and good things for this... but I do find it kind of useful. There's like 1000 pages or more of horribly named pets. I'd be nice if people could just delete the pets if they didn't want them rather than building up the ammount of unwanted pets in the forest. But there would probably be a pop-up saying "are you sure?" because someone may accidentally click a super rare pet.

You would still need a tag to rename one of them.

Sure, you wouldn't have to spent TU on a tag to delete the first pet, but you would still need it to tag the other. 

/edit: Totally just realzed that the second pet could die, while the first deleted. Ignore that^ /

It's true that's a con, and would likely lower tag prices, but I still think the ability to delete creatu would be handy.  If not indefinately, at least a once-year type deal, where we would be able to get rid of unwanted pets for one or two days.That would keep it from being used as a tag replacement for the most part.

Res isn't completely dependant on names. I agree it plays a heavy part, but it doesn't play the entire part, if that makes any sense.If Res was all about the names, nobody would even be debating this topic as colors wouldn't be that important to users anyways.

I highly doubt you'd be able to get everyone to stop hatching the common creatu.

We're trying, but it's going to be hard.

These are usually the only creatu avalible to new members, and they're hardly going to stop hatching because we think their creatu aren't priced high enough, sadly.

A popup or a redirect to another page would probably be needed, I don't see why one wouldn't be added.

If we didn't get the ability to delete creatu, even if it's limted to say, one day of the month/year, I think that another good alternative would be for creatu pa.ssed in the forest to be deleted. This would take a long time to have effects, but it would work.

I thought creatu that weren't adopted from the forest were already deleted...? o.o

Anyway, I see where you're trying to go with this idea. I think it would be helpful, but just like anything else, people would probably find a way to start abusing it. :/

Honestly, that would be my first choice for something to be added. Forest deletion would be the best, since the forest is already there, you already get paid for forsting creatu, and it's easy to forest a lot at a time. All that would need to be re-added is the deletion funtction when p*censored*ed.

For now, I'm just toying around with this idea and why it would and wouldn't work.

There's abuse with every feature. Even with the new death feature that was instaleld recently, people began to use it instead of tags, and like extra hatches. If the deletion feature were once a year, it would reduce or remove the potential to be used instead of tags.

 I'm not saying there's no faults in this idea, I'm actually looking for ones others can see in it. I'm mostly curious about it more than anything. o-o

As far as I know, people are saying it's no longer doing that.

 

If anyone knows for 100% certanty, that would be nice.

 

I swear I've seen a few of the pets in there at least twice, though. o-o

With V2, the deleting of pets not adopted in the forest went away. They have not fixed it yet. I think this is the single most important part of clearing up names that needs to be done ASAP!

I'm not sure being able to delete pets would be needed if this and not finishing hatches were used.

I'm all for the deletion of pets in the forest after a certain amount of time. Not only would it free up tons of pages of junk names and server space like previously stated, it would also free up many names. For example, if you accicently release a pet into the forest, at least you could get the name back once the pet was deleted. It's not getting the whole creatu back, but it would help a whole lot, plus it could save the trouble of asking everyone to be on the look out for an old pet of yours or even just a name you like that's stuck in the forest, y'know?

I'm also in favor of having the option to delete your own pets. The option to just straight up release unwanted hatches is very useful, so why not extend that to all of your pets? Maybe not literally a "delete" option, but maybe just call it a "kill" option or leave it as a "release" option like the one for newly hatched pets, or maybe even add in more ways to let your pets die. I know it sounds terrible, but so many people are letting junk forest pets die on their profiles anyway in order to help out the economy, so why not make it easier? In the case of pet deletion vs. name tags, there would still be plenty of uses for name tags. For example, if I wanted to take a name off of my Liyure and put it onto an albino I just hatched, I sure as heck wouldn't delete my Liyure for it. It's true that pet deletion would lessen the need for name tags, but it wouldn't render them useless. There's more to a pet in than just the name, albiet the name does play a huge role for many users.
