How would it be if the shoutbox had the option to choose different categories? 
If you want to advertise or buy stuff, you just change to the advertisement category. 
If you want to talk about random stuff you can go to the social category.
And If you're new and need some help you can go to the help category!

Maybe then the shoutbox won't so filled with people that you can't have a conversation there *-*
Would also be great for new users!

Even though I'm too young, it sounds sorta cool.

Also, maybe you could have a list of players there and then a button next to that player. If you press that button, you get a new window where you can have a private chat with that player?

I don't think it is really necessary, since we have forums for those sort of things.

We had a different chat system that let you do private chats/IM/create chatrooms, but there was no way to moderate so we had to switch back to the old system. The shoutbox causes a lot of lag, so I don't think adding extra ones of the sort we have now would be a good idea - forums are a better option. Otherwise you're most likely to end up in a room full of people advertising to each other or looking for answers that no one in that room has. Forums and patience need to be used more often for advertising and help, IMO. =)

Whether or not Pat still plans to add moderating tools to the other chat system, I have no idea.
