Recently I had a problem. 

When the new exploring method came out, I started sending my pets again and again to explore. 
But then I decided to change planets and do some shrining for the new eggs. My exploring pets still were exploring my home planet, but they returned while I was shrining, if I didn't recognizer the name, I would have shrined one of my favorite pets that is albino. 
Someone can even shrine their CS coloured pets that way. 
I think the pets should come to our profile after we restart the page, that way we will be given notification that we have received something and we will be aware. 
The same applies when someone sends you a pet or an item. 
We don't want someone to send us their Rray and we accidentally shrine it, yeah?

I don't think CS pets can be shrined?
Really, this boils down to just paying attention. If you're expecting something, like pets to be returning or someone to loan an item, I think best advice would be to just not shrine until you get it all taken care of.

But what if the person gets distracted or just forgets and you wait? They may have somemething pop up in real life, but if they don't let you know before leaving you will just sit and do nothing. And I can't really really tell for the CS pets, because I never shrined one.
