I got to thinking the other day that even with Kir, nattie, sepia, cream, even black coloured pets aren't worth a whole lot. And getting the albino or blonde or calico pet needed for the quest is mostly based on chance, unless you pay an arm and a leg for one from another user.
But what if you could turn in your nattie, sepia, cream, black, coloured pets, or even dyed pets, for a better colour?
It would have to be a large ratio (maybe in the ball park of a 200 natties to obtain an albino, maybe more, 300?), and at first, these colour changes would come pretty easily, as natties and low colours are priced rather dismally at the moment. But as people began to buy these low coloured pets to use as 'currency' in getting a more rare colour, the price of them would rise, and the albino, blonde, etc pets would remain rare.
It could depend on a point system, where one nattie was worth, say, 1 point. A sepia worth 2, maybe 3, and so forth. Once you've obtained a certain number of points, you could cash them in for a colour change.
You could only get a colour change for the species you've obtained enough points from. ie, you can't hand in 200 or so nattie zennies and use those points for an albino uilus. Those points you earned by handing in zenirix can only be used for a colour change on a zenirix.
Obviously wouldn't be able to be used for CS pets or uldavian creatu.
The points for creatu system is already in place, used during many holiday events to obtain seasonal eggs. And the colour changes are also used at the springs, so I don't believe a lot of coding would be needed to make this a reality.
This shouldn't diminish the value of the high coloured pets by much, as you'd still need a lot of pets to turn in for a colour change, especially if this system were in place for a while, as the price of low coloured pets would rise quite a bit as people bought them up to turn in for points. Same with the value of beans. Rather than spend millions on pets to hand in over a long period of time, I feel many users would still prefer to try their luck with a bean or three. Also, instead of beans, which can add sepias and creams and blacks to the market, this system removes them.
Kir quest pets, such as the RSTU series, galta, and ivik would still remain valuable, as obtaining high colours in this fashion should take just as long as trying to hatch one yourself, or waiting for one to come on sale. What makes this system desirable is the fact that the outcome is tangible, the user can see how far away they actually are from obtaining the pet they need, all the while removing low coloured and 'undesirable' pets from the system.
Let me know what you think? If you feel anything should be altered or changed in my idea? And of course, whether I have your support. ^o^
