They dont have to tell you what their name is. You did that to make sure they were the one who bought it, right?

The rancher log tells you which pet was bought and who bought it.

Rancher log. Or as the link says "Shop Log". It's right beside Shop Til. To the left. Click it, you can see who bought which pet and for what price. This way the people don't have to tell you, and you can be sure they aren't lying.
