Race to Nowhere and Everywhere:
An Adventure Around the Globe

-Private Roleplay between Draco and Lola-

A note to lurkers: Please no lurking.  Our insurance does not cover readers, and may result nausea, dizziness, diabetes, various forms of cancer, uncontrollable singing, burns (of the fourth degree and beyond), time travel, loss of consciousness, amnesia, bruising, screaming, nightmares, excessive fees, infections of bacteria from Mars, computer-crashing, magical warts, hallucinations, and much, much more.

Plot
It's legendary.  It's powerful.  It's...real?
The legendary sword Excalibur has been sought throughout the centuries.  Some call it just a myth, but others know it's more than just a tale.  Treasure-hunters and seekers of rare artifacts have searched for it in vain, but mere mortals only know half the tale.  What they don't know is that Excalibur is actually a creature--a rare animal with the ability to shift into a sword.  If you tame it, it is said you will become invincible in battle, and immortal as well (not that this is needed by the already ageless).  And rumors have begun that Excalibur has resurfaced somewhere in the countryside of England.  Mortals and immortals alike are gearing up to find and fight for the ultimate weapon.
The race has begun.

Setting
We will begin our tale on a rainy night in modern day London.  But who knows where our adventures might take us?

Name:
Gossamer "Sam" Infirmatti
Gender:
Male
Age:
Immortal; appearance varies, but usually in his twenties
Species:
Shadow-shifter/Warlock child
Powers/Abilities:
As part of the race of demons called Shadow-shifters, Sam can control shadows quite well.  He can rearrange them, sculpt them, even wear them.  During the day he can call shadows to him and use their power to shift into a shadow-creature--that is, the form of any animal, except that they are black and have no true substance.  During the night, he can use the same ability, but since it is the time of shadows, he can shadow-shift into animals with real form--but they all have night-black fur, skin, or scales.  All of Gossamer's shadow-creatures have glowing golden eyes.
Gossamer can also control other's shadows, steal shadows (which give him more power), and bend other's shadows.  He is skilled at 'reading shadows', that is telling the fears and nightmares of others from their shadows--he can then bend their shadows to execute their worst nightmares.
From his Warlock blood Sam derives the ability to channel magic and cast spells.  He can use any spell he wishes, as his mother was one of the High Class wizards, but he must know it.  He cannot simply use magic without knowing the spell he needs first.
Weaknesses:
Gossamer hates water because he cannot perform magic while on it.  Rain or cloud cover is no matter to him, but when he is on a boat, or standing in a puddle, he is simply unable to work it.  His shadow-arts also have certain limitations to them during the day, but as he is a fairly powerful shadow-shifter, this usually does not cause him trouble.
His genetics, though, are what cause him the most problems.  Gossamer is a very rare child, because in most cases wizards are not impregnable by any other species but their own.  Gossamer, being a hybrid child, would be special and possibly dangerous in any case, but the fact that he is half demon means that he is very unstable, too.  The wizard magic and demon magic react with one another, very much like explosive chemicals, and give him violent mood swings and have been slowly pushing him towards the brink of insanity since birth.  And he's about to fall off.
Personality:
Due to his magical imbalance, Gossamer has very violent mood swings.  One moment he may be disturbingly serene and childlike, and another terrifyingly outraged and malicious.  He is rather thoughtful when he's not battling his insanity, and usually thinks out his actions before executing them.  He is very clever, and loves riddles--but hates answering questions.  His "other" personalities differ and range into the thousands--it is impossible to describe each one individually.
He will often be seen muttering to himself, and perhaps asking the odd passerby a startlingly creepy question--or one that hits uncannily close to home.  He is deeply perceptive and can get under your skin easily.  You don't want to get on his cruel side.
At other times, however, he can be pitiful and child-like, exuberant and almost innocent.  That's the first mistake people make about Sam, though--mistaking him for innocent.
Background:
Sam's mother and father were never married, never dated, never even knew each other's first names.  Gossamer's dad was a very powerful shadow-shifter that had been unleashed under a full moon by a cult of amateur demon-summoners.  They were all dead before they could experience the joy of raising an actual--and very powerful--demon.  He tore through the city, and raped Gossamer's mother along the way.  She became pregnant with Sam, and as vengeance, her family hunted down the demon and exterminated it.  But whatever they did, they could not remove the demon spawn from within her.  So Sam was born, as unwanted a child as he was.
His mother and her family taught him how to control his magic and to hide his demon blood, and turned him out on the street at the age of fourteen.  His mother's kin was one of the High Class wizarding families--in mortal terms, one of the most powerful wizard families in the world.  They had fallen on hard times and couldn't afford the scandal of a demon-child in the family, so they disowned him.
Gossamer found solace in a small orphanage, but it burned in a terrible freak fire about two years after he first took up residence there, when his full demonic powers began to come in.  Distressed, he ran away and lived on the streets for a time, teaching himself about his demonic side and using it to steal what he needed and protect himself.
Now, so many years later, he is a very wealthy and powerful immortal.  He has houses across the world, and is very wealthy, too--but he desires something else.  Invincibility.
Appearance:
Gossamer is very handsome, but in an eerie and unnatural way.  His skin is alabaster pale, and drawn tight over his skin.  He has inky black hair that falls shaggily in his face (sort of like this).  He is tall and graceful, but in his fits of insanity, he make look more lanky and spider-like.  He is strong, but not thickly muscled, and in fact very lean.  His smile is unsettling and predatory, but the strangest thing about Gossamer is his gaze.
It's one of pure gold.
Both eyes are the same shade of flaxen yellow, and this is his mark.  All of his shadow-creatures have golden eyes.  If he turns a dream into a nightmare, the hellish creatures within all have glowing yellow eyes.  Right before he turns your own shadow upon you to devour you, you will see it has golden eyes.
Not the crimson of a normal demon, but gold.  And this is what makes him think he has hope.
Other:
His representative colors are gold and black.
Gossamer is also extremely lucky, and has never lost a game of cards before.
He loves parfait and gummy worms and napping.
And no, despite common belief, he is NOT a vampire.

[I hope so. |D I do love my Sam.  Oh, and I forgot to put in his bio that his theme song is "Sam's Town" by The Killers.  I love the Abbey Road version of that song. ;o;
Would you like me to start or you?]

[Sure thing. ^^]
The London nighttime was cold and it was wet.  Gossamer shivered under one of the eves of some shop or another, miserable in the watery darkness.  His keen gold eyes picked out every detail of the shadows--one of the many advantages to being a shadow-shifter--but that didn't do anything to change the fact that puddles were gathering slowly, surreptitiously, around his feet.
With an air of disgust, he checked his watch again.  Water drip-drip-dripped onto his nice trench coat, the water glinting against the charcoal fabric in the shop's dim light.  He stood there for several more minutes, utterly still, just another shadow in the night.
Finally, he moved again, checking the time once more.  And then Sam let out a disgusted sigh, shoved his hands into his pockets, and made his way into the stormy night.  His contact hadn't come, after all.  Sam shouldn't have been surprised that the man had taken the money and run, but that didn't stop the disappointment and the sharp flash of anger.  He had really thought he could trust this one, really thought that they would get him one step closer to Excalibur, to invincibility.  But alas, it was just another in the long line of greed and fakes.
Weary down to his bone, he set off again into the night, hoping for another discovery, another chance to win the ultimate prize.

Dark, cold and wet, London was. It was a far cry from the warmth and sunshine of New Orleans. And she hated her father for making her come to this place of forever cold. He had sent her because Excalibur was back in the world once more; some old sword used by King Arthur and Merlin the wizard. She wasn't majorly interested in it, but her father wants to present it as a gift to the Nine, and refused to go find it himself even though he was a full demon. Hell, he could have sent Draek to find the sword. That dude was older and was interested in that kind of stuff. He told her once, and she remembered.

But then again, she hardly knew her older half-brother and her biological father.

With a sigh, Ariskye rubbed one finger around the rim of the mug in front of her. About a month later, here she was. Sitting in a "pub" in London with a mug of something that smell rank with alcohol. It dulled her abilities; something she was grateful for since she didn't want to dig around in somebody's head anymore than necessary. They might end up as a vegetable. A smirk curved her lips as she quickly downed the rest of the dark liquid, half-slamming the mug back on the table. Standing up, she left a few Euros on the table and left the pub, ignoring the drunken catcalls aimed towards her.

After stepping out of the hot building, the cold rain was a welcome burden. She moaned with pleasure as the droplets rolled down her back to cool off her heated skin. "I may not like it here, but, by the Nine, this feels so good," she breathed as she tipped her head down before running her nails through her midnight-black hair. The rain-slick strains became plastered to her head and failed to cover up the hairline to jawline scar on the left side of her face.

But she didn't care.

Though, that carelessness was quickly shot out the window as her phone started to play the beginning lyrics to Disturbed's Darkness; the metal band's only ballad. She answered it even though the called ID was listed as Unknown Name.

"Your drunk," came the accusing male voice on the other end. It was accented heavily by a language once known as Lemurian.

Ariskye chuckled. "I'm not drunk. I can't get drunk. Nor can I get high or stoned. Believe me, I tried after my abilities came into their own."

The male growled and sounded like static. "You forget what I sent you do find."

"Actually, no. I didn't forget. I just wasted a million dollars of my own money for bribes and information. And do you want to know how long it is going to take to earn all that back? Forever. That is how long. Now, if you have any useful information for me, say it now or let me do things my way, Father dear," she snarl into the small device. There was a pause. "Yea. That's what I thought." She hung up without saying good bye.

Ariskye slipped the phone back into its pocket inside her jacket and rubbed her temples with the pads of her forefingers. "F*cking hell dad. Why can't you look for it. You were around when this thing was being used and you know what the hell it looks like. I don't know sh!t about it." With a shake of her head, she continued onto the place she was staying at for however long she needed to stay in this miserable place.

Sam was tired and he was cold.  That much he didn't like, but the streets were warm with the press of bodies, now that he was on one of the city's many thoroughfares.  The rain had slowed to a drizzle, though that didn't cure the dampness in his hair, his feet--his entire body, really.  It didn't cure his foul temperament of late, or the fact that another lead had gone dead cold.
But something was comforting in the tide of humanity.  It made him feel closer to the mortals that shunned him, made him feel farther than the kin that did the same.  It made him feel, for once, like just another face in the crowd.  It was extraordinary, considering Gossamer had never been 'normal' by any stretch the imagination.  His gold eyes were downcast, and the few who noticed their peculiar color dismissed them quickly for contacts--one of the many advantages of the modern age.  Anything weird was just another cosmetic wonder.
He let the mundane buzz of the humans fill his senses, numbing the anger and the rage and that nagging fear that he was falling over the edge.  His eyes avoided the mass of shadows, avoided the fear and the insanity within them.  The tension was just finally draining out of his shoulders, when a sharp scent filled his senses, and suddenly he was wide awake again.
Another demon.
[Happy Easter! c:
Sorry this post is so terrible. >>; -didn't get enough sleep last night-]
