Name: Azroth

Age: Is almost 500 in demon years -3200 in human years-, stopped aging at the age of 23.

Species: Demon

Gender: Male

Look:

David Wolfram Pictures, Images and Photos

About:  He is the second son of the demon king, and will do anything to save his father, as he does not want to be king.  He will also do anything to make his sister well.  He has white hair, white wolf ears and tail.  He also stands at 6'1" and is proud of being tall and muscular.  He will fight when necessary, but if he can avoid it, he will.  He has only one good eye, his other had been gouged out when he was five by his brother, who said it had been an accident, that they had been playing to roughly and that he was sorry.  This of course was not true.  Azroth has a way with animals.  They understand him, and he them.  They trust him, knowing that with them, he would never lie, just like he would never lie to his sister.  He also has a way with shadows, making them be able to take on forms of beasts to help him fight, though he does not realize that until a fateful event in his future.

Other:  His father is on his death bed, so the kingdom is in turmoil.  Many believe that the oldest son is not fit to be king, sins he has always been power hungry and thinks of no one but himself.  His little sister is only five, but she was born very sickly.  She is never allowed to leave the palace and spends most of her time in bed.  Azroth
believes that his brother is to blame for his father's decline in
health, believing that poison is being used, but there is no proof.  Is
it truly poison, or is it something else?  Is his brother truly to blame
or is there something more sinister at work.

Recent History:  Azroth found his father dead, killed by his brother.  He fled after his brother framed him for the murder.  He took his sister and went off to try to find the elven city which he had only seen once before when he was three.  His mother had died a few years later.

NOTICE:
(Will be updated from time to time as more is made known to the history of Azroth)

I hung there, waiting for my pray to come into sight. I had been waiting here all day, my bow drawn, an arrow knocked. A smile met my lips as I heard a snap of a twig and the deer came into view. My bow automatically found the deer, and as if I had been programed, I let my arrow fly. I heard it hit the target and the deer fall. I sat up, then slipped down from the tree. I walked slowly over to my new kill, making sure it was dead.

"Ha ha!" I laughed lightly and quietly. I stood there, towering over it
for a moment. "It's now, Garret." I called over my shoulder mockingly. I
heard a small laugh, then Garret walk over to me.

"How long did you know I was there?" He asked me, putting a cold hand on my shoulder as I bent over to dress the deer.

"You know the answer to that." I told him, taking out my knife.

"Okay, so I do..." He muttered to himself. "How about I dress the deer
and bring it back to camp, and you go get us another one?" He said,
grabbing my hand before the blade had time to reach the deer.

"I think one deer is enough for two." I told him. I sighed and dropped
my knife. It landed harmlessly on the soft ground, inches from the deer.
"I'll go start the fire." I told him, getting up and starting to walk away.

(Alright)
"Big brother!"  A little girl called out as Azroth walked by.

Azroth turned and smiled and entered her room.  He then went over to her bed and sat down.  "What is it, my little angel?"  He asked a large smile on his lips, though his eyes were sad as he looked at his little sister.

"Can you tell me about mom again?"  She asked in a quiet whisper.  She knew it was a touchy subject for her brother, but she always enjoyed hearing him tell of their mom.

He gave a small nod.  "Of course, anything for you."  He paused getting his thoughts together.  "She was beautiful and kind, just like you.  Her hair was golden as if touched by the sun itself, and her eyes were the color of the ocean.  Her laughter was like the sound of the chimes outside your window when the window blows ever so softly.  Nothing was too trivial for her.  If you had a problem, she would do what she could to help..."  He stopped, his eyes growing sadder.  "I think that's enough for now."  He pulled the sheets and down quilt back up over his sister's chest.  "Get some rest.  You need it."  He said as he tucked in her favorite teddy bear.  She smiled in response before yawning, closing her eyes.  She was soon fast asleep, a cute little smile played on her lips.

Azroth got up and left the room, heading off to go check on his father.  His eyes were no longer sad, but full of worry.  Every day his father was closer to his death, and Azroth and his father, suspected fowl play.  The two of them believed that Azroth's older brother was to blame, slowly poisoning the king in order to make it look like poor health.  He had always been power hungry and apparently he had grown tired of waiting and had decided to take matters into his own hands.  Sadly there was no proof it was him, but the two knew that it could be no other.

“Thanks for dinner.” I
muttered to Garret form above.

“You’re the one that made
it.” He said back, poking the fire with a stick. I wasn’t sure, but it sounded
like he had an edge to his voice.

“Don’t be modest,
Garret. You cooked it. All I did was shoot it.” I said, watching him. He looked
over at his piece of bark we used for plates. He didn’t say anything, do I
lowered my gaze and picked apart a piece of deer on my plate. A few minutes
passed and we were done with dinner. I jumped down from my perch in the tree and
walked over to the fire. I sat down beside Garret and extended my hand to get
Garret’s plate. A cold hand on top on mine stopped me. I looked up to see two
beautiful green eyes looking down at my hand.

“I’ll get it.” He
said, then took my plate and his without another word. He silently cleaned them
off as I watched him with my white eyes. Once he was done, we both stood up. “Take
a walk with me?” He asked, then turned to walk away. I followed him, not making
a sound. After a time we arrived at a small lake we had been to when we first
made camp here.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t
it?” I whispered as I watched the stars of the newly arisen night dance across the
water. I felt his eyes on me, but I couldn’t bear to look away from the lake’s
beauty.

“Not as beautiful as
you.” He said in a very quiet whisper. I wouldn’t have been able to hear it if
it weren’t for my hearing. I decided it might not have been for my ears to
hear, so I said nothing. “Jazz?” He said in a louder whisper. My eyes tore away
from the lake in an instant as I heard the adoring voice I had never heard before.
For a moment after my eyes met him, I was surprised he could make such a sound.
The moment after that feeling subsided, I felt something warm on my lips. A
feeling of complete surprise come over me. My eyes bulged as I recognized what
was in front of my face. The green eyes of my best friend were staring into
mine. My heart stopped and I was breathless as his lips touched mine for the
first time in my life. When he pulled away, I didn’t try to resist. “I… I’m
sorry.” Garret stuttered, then turned away. He took a step away from me,
starting to leave.

“No!” I said a little
too loudly and quickly. My eyes shone fiercely as I reached for his arm,
pulling him back. “Uh… I mean… Stay? Please?” I asked, trying to correct my
previous attempt. He examined my eyes for a moment, then frowned.

“I just kissed you –which
is a serious offence-, you aren’t mad at me, and now you are asking me to stay?”
He said, as if testing me.

“Yes.” I told him. He
chuckled a little.

“As you wish.” He
said, walking back over to me. I let go of his arm and smiled a little.

“Come sit with me.” I
told him, leading him to a tree. I didn’t know why, but I loved trees. Maybe it
was the view it provided, or just the advantage of higher ground. I didn’t
know, and at this point, I didn’t care. I climbed silently up the tree, Garret
at my heels. He sat there on a high limp of the tree, looking out over the starry
lake. We didn’t talk, I just rested my head on his shoulder and looked at the
lake.

When he got to his father's room, a horrid sight met his eyes.  His father was dead, throat slit and his brother standing over him.  His brother threw the knife at his feet and Azroth looked down at it, his eyes wide in horror as he looked back up at his brother.  "Why?" He asked in what sounded like a croak.  He asked already knowing the answer.

"I've waited far too long for the throne."  He replied with a smirk before shouting, "Guards, my brother just killed the king."  Azroth knew that there was no way he could prove that it was his brother, especially when his brother had most everyone well paid and tied to his strings of deceit.

Azroth bolted from the room and ran to his sisters.  He pulled her out of bed, without waking her, and wrapped a heavy blanket around her.  He smiled as he noticed that she still clung to her bear.  "I'm sorry."  He whispered as he held her close and ran out of the room and to the stables.  One of the stable hands, who had always looked out for Azroth, one who his brother could not bribe, stood there with Azroth's demon horse, which more looked like an undead horse, saddled and ready.

"Good, luck my king."  He said with a bow.  Azroth nodded, a small smile on his lips.

"Thank you, Grimbold.  Please send me news of anything if you can."  He paused.  "Though I don't know where I can go."  Grimbold chuckled.

"Go to the elven kingdom.  Your mother was their queen's friend for many years.  They thought of her as a sister.  Go to them, and maybe they may be able to help your sister.  Grow stronger so that one day you will be able to defeat your brother, and return this kingdom to the glory it once had.  Now go."  Azroth nodded once more and put his sister on his horse before climbing up behind her.  He kicked his horse into a run and left the palace and soon the city far behind him.

Azroth rode hard for many hours...traveling the distance that would normally take three weeks in a matter of hours.  He entered the woods that many avoided, saying that it was haunted, but was indeed the forest that the elves resided in.  Azroth pulled the hood of his cloak up as the night began to cool.  He stopped his horse briefly to wrap the blanket tighter around his sister, making sure that the wind that was picking up would not touch her.  He then moved his horse to a walk and rode deeper into the forest, his ears twitching under his hood, trying to pick up the sounds of any danger, his animal instincts in full control.

He was on edge, but that was natural for what had happened.  He was glad that their mom was not alive to see the horror that was unfolding.  He never prayed but now he did.  -Lord of the demons and of the dead, Drallion, please watch over my people so that they may not suffer at the hands of my brother.  Help me grow stronger so that I may protect them.  May you give me the wisdom to do what is needed for them, and for my sister.  May my brother one day pay for the atrocities he has committed and will commit...Amen.-  He ended his silent prayer, keeping one arm around his sister, using the other to control his horse.

He soon smelled cooking meat and of burning wood.  He also picked up the sound of fire and voices.  He rode towards the sounds, not sure why he was doing it, but it felt like the right thing to do.  He soon entered a medium sized clearing and stopped his horse.  Two elves sat by the fire in the middle of the clearing.

My ears picked it up before anything else. I sat there, my head on
Garrets shoulder, bow at my side. I pretended to be asleep, trying to
avoid waking Garret who was asleep. I heard the fire pop , splitting a
log I had tossed in there only minutes ago. No... no, don't! I thought to myself as a robin fluttered down to my side. It started chirping the way it always did when it wanted to play with me. Not right now! Go away! I thought. It cocked it's head and then flew away with out another sound. As it beated it's wings in the air, a stench flooded my nose. Demons! I thought. "Raketh!" I shouted. This was a spell. My spell to be exact. I had designed it to pause time for everyone. Everyone but me adn Garret. I grabbed my bow without hesitation, instantly knocking an arrow. "Nightlock!" I said. At this Garret woke as he always did. He saw me standing there, bow in hand. He got up in an instant, grabbing his sword. He stood there at my side. We examined the creatures for a minute, then moved into position. Garret stood in his place and I circled back around  to the rear of the horse like creature. Just as I took my spot, the spell broke, just as it was supposed to.

Azroth spoke, the hood of his cloak hiding his features.  "I am not here to fight.  I am here only to take refuge for the time being.  My mother was your queens friend, her sister.  I was told to go to your city, by the horse master Grimbold.  I knew where the forest was but not where your city is.  I was only three the last time I was there."  He paused, holding his sister tighter.  "But if you insist on killing me, then there will be a fight, for I will not let myself be killed or my sister hurt.  I will not be killed until I set the wrongs of my brother right."  He did not realize he had started to growl slightly.

His sister woke.  "Brother, your growling again, why?"  Azroth stopped and looked down at the blanketed bundle that was his sister.

"Just a little misunderstanding, my little angel.  Now go back to sleep."  She nodded and gave a tiny yawn before falling back into a peaceful sleep.  Azroth maneuvered his horse away from the two elves before turning it so that he could face them both.  "So, what are you going to do?  Will you try to fight me, or take my word that I mean no harm."  His one good eye, that was green, reflected gold as the firelight hit it.

Neither of us said a word as non was needed. I nodded to Garret and he lowered his sword. I did not, though. "What was your mother's name, boy?" I asked him, my bow aimed for his head.

Jazz? What are you doing?
A voice inside my head asked.

Trust me Garret, for I may know his mother. I told Garret silently.

"Her name was Emira.  She died when I was seven.  Long before, I think you
were born."  He looked up at the sky then as he remembered more about
her and he started to recite the story, he would tell his sister over
and over, without even thinking, as if he was telling it to his sister once more.
  "She was beautiful and kind,
just like you.  Her hair was golden as if touched by the sun itself, and
her eyes were the color of the ocean.  Her laughter was like the sound

That was disturbingly familiar... I thought to
Garret.

Yup. He thought back. I sighed and lowered my bow.

"Your mother and I were great friends. She died in my arms." I told
the Demon. "And as she died, she asked me one thing." I said almost
to myself. "And I failed to do it. She told me to protect you, my
boy." I said, my voice sad. "Come." I said, turning and waving
my hand, telling them to come. "Garret, tend to our fire please." I
asked him. He nodded and slowly walked over to it, picking up our stuff. I
whistled and waited for a moment. I heard familiar hooves pound on the earth. A
second later my pure black horse appeared through the trees. “Good boy.” I said,
patting him on the neck. “You.” I said, turning to the demon boy. “Take my
horse. I shall take yours and lead you to the city.” I told him. I knew this was
a weird request, but it was a necessary one.

He was confused but did as he was asked.  He got off his horse, taking his sister and went over to the elven girl's horse and set his sister on it, before climbing up behind.  -Was that the queen who spoke before?-  He wondered to himself.  -The voice was different and this girl is younger than I am, that I am sure of.-  He shrugged and waited for the elven girl, still wondering why he was asked to switch horses, and who had spoken before.

I jumped onto the demon's horse. "Don't push him. He will follow me." I told the demon as I passed him. I took one last look at Garret, knowing it might be my last. I love you. I thought to him, then took off.

Azroth followed, wondering what was going on.  He had felt something come off of her.  A sense of deep sadness.  "Are you alright?"  He could not help but ask.  "You seem...sad."  He said nothing else, keeping silent as he watched her.

"It is your mother. She was a wise and noble one. Her one wish was for me
to take you and your sister in if your brother ever did what I assume he
did. She knew there was an evil in him, but she dared not say a thing about it to anyone but me." I said. My face was sad, but my mind was happy. Memories of her were flooding my mind. Of the time we first met and I nearly shot her, deciding to keep her away from the city for our kind were not friendly to demons. Of her telling me about her soon-to-be son. Me sneaking her into the city so she could give birth twice - to both of her sons. Her lying in my arms in the forest I so cherished, dying. Her telling me to take care of her children.

"So you are the queen."  He gave a small bow.  "And the one on my horse is your daughter, I assume."  He said, his voice quiet.  Being careful to keep one arm around his sister, and trying to keep from waking her.

He shook his head.  "Never mind, but your voice is different than it was earlier."  He replied keeping his voice calm as if nothing was wrong.  He was glad that the hood of his cloak hid his features, hiding the fact that he was angry.

"So the sadness is apparent. I shall try to conceal it to make you more comfortable, if you wish." I told him, masking my sadness. "Better?" I asked him.
