Covalt, a huge gray and white wolf. He inherited the rank from his father, added the "rules" to the pack, and created the Trials.

Alesa growled and began to lie low to the ground, stalking her prey.  She locked eyes and then sprang like a rabbit onto the large bone from the buck the pack had taken down yesterday.  She fiercely bit at it and then casually laid down and began to gnaw on the bone.  She enjoyed bones, especially large ones, because 1) you could play with them, 2) they still had taste on them, and 3) they could be chewed without being torn apart.  Alesa's mind soon wondered about the new Alpha who had recently taken over.  She didn't think much of it, after all, it was just a new Alpha, right?  Pack life will continue as usual.  Hunting.  Sleeping.  Surviving.  Etcetera.  Nothing drastic, of course.

Karuna was suspicious of this new Alpha.  He wasn't one to easily trust somebody, so he was planning to spy on the Alpha until things were confirmed to be alright or to be horribly wrong.  He laid in his den, calculating eyes scanning the camp for any sign of the new wolf, and once his eyes caught sight of the Alpha, they'd analyze him.  And then he'd begin the spying part.  Unless the Alpha's ways were revealed beforehand to set Karuna's mind on one path - the path of 'this guy's alright' or 'this guy isn't alright'.  That was simply how Karuna functioned.

Sierra was in her den, laying down and resting her eyes.  She was so tired she was going to fall asleep, but mixed thoughts and ponderings about the new Alpha were the only things that kept her awake.  She had stayed up late last night following Kiyiya, who had been hunting while the pack was asleep - which was unusual.  No wolf was regularly out at night.  So she had been up for a long time past when she usually was dozing.  No wonder Sierra was tired.

Kiyiya had been hunting last night and brought back a few rabbits and voles.  It was nothing special.  He enjoyed seclusion and alone time, though he sensed a presence that he couldn't identify.  At the moment, he is sleeping, because Kiy is a bit of a night owl.

Okay, so there's a new alpha. Big deal. Some of the wolves in the camp seemed nervous and concerned about the new Alpha. So. What. Just because there was a new leader didn't mean that the pack shouldn't trust him. After all, it wasn't like he'd killed the old alpha or anything. The old alpha had actually died of old age. And the new one was his son(if that's okay with you, Ice c:). Aketa just hoped that the few wolves who seemed concerned would get over it quickly. He didn't comment, not really wanting to discuss the fears and problems of the other wolves. He liked it better when they were just in a good mood and they were fun to be around. But he knew it would be alright in a while. He padded through the camp, looking for his sister. Hopefully, she wouldn't be so paranoid. He looked around for a while. Couldn't find her. "Avadare?" He called out after a little bit.

Avadare could hear her brother, and she bounded over to where he was. "Huh?" The small, blonde-colored wolf asked.

Aketa realized that Avadare seemed to be perfectly fine. "I thought you'd maybe be kind of worried about..." His voice trailed off when he realized that she'd already lost interest in what he was saying, and she was watching a beetle that was crawling around her feet. A beetle. A bug. He took a couple steps back, and tried to pretend it didn't bother him, and waited for her to realize he wasn't talking anymore.

"Hey, do you think it's gonna bite me?" She asked, smirking.

"Well-" He stopped talking as Avadare quickly shoved her paw forward and sent the beetle flying toward him. Aketa scrambled backward, then looked back over to Avadare, who was laughing hysterically at this point.

Covalt stood atop the huge boulder where his father had stood for so many years. He'd waited so long for that old wolf to die, he'd waited so long to finally get the rank he deserved. The rank that was rightfully his. He couldn't help but smile as he looked over the pack. His pack. His wolves. His father had always been far too leniant about the rules. But that wouldn't last.

Evane glared straight up at Colvalt, but he took no notice of her. The smile on his face, when his father had so recently died...It wasn't right. But who was she to disagree with him? If he wanted to make the pack hell on earth...

...then so be it. Bring it on.

Karuna scrutinized the Alpha atop the boulder, taking in every aspect of his fur color and pattern, his eye color, the shape and build of his body, and the look on his face - which was simply malicious.  Something didn't feel right about Covalt.  Karuna slid forward slightly, a plan of action taking shape in his mind.  First, go around and hide behind the bushes......

Alesa left the bone alone but promised that if anyone laid a paw on it that their paw wouldn't be here to see tomorrow and trotted over to Avadere (can they be like friends or something?).  "Hey, what's with your wimpy brother?  Can't take a beetle, Aketa?" she said with a laugh.

Sierra looked over to see the group of three, but payed no mind.  She noticed Evane glaring at Covalt, the new Alpha, and then she saw the look on Covalt's face.  Somehow she thought he'd be more... sad-looking.  I mean, his father just died!  But instead it was a smile... something that brought a hint of evil to it... but Sierra shook that thought away.  Surely if Covalt was their former Alpha's son, he'd be just as great as his father, right?

"I can take a beetle!" Aketa said. "I thought she was trying to hit me or something!"

"Or something?" Avadare asked. "Are you saying you wouldn't have been able to take getting hit by a girl?" She turned to Alesa, smiling. "Aketa...you're a wimp. I'm sorry, but...yeah." She smirked, and stepped away from Alesa and Aketa for a moment. Then she cowered down toward the ground, attempting to mimicAketa. "Oh, Ava, I'm so frightened! Please, kill it, before it chews off my ears! Alesa, Ava! Girls, (If you haven't noticed, Avadare likes to say 'girls' instead of 'she-wolves.' :P)please help me! You're stronger...!"

Covalt watched as a patrol (NPC's.) came back from hunting, and he narrowed his eyes when he saw that no one was carrying any food. He climbed down from the boulder and approached them, a brownish-gray wolf named Hekkate laid back her ears.

"No food?" Covalt asked with narrowed eyes, annoyance in his voice.

"I'm sorry-" Hekkate began.

"Sorry doesn't feed anyone. Explain yourself. Who was in charge of this hunting party?"

"I was, sir..." A black wolf named Engiz said.

"Then why is there no food?"

"Well it got away, sir...it outran us..."

"How could it outrun you?! How could you have not planned the hunt well enough for it to be trapped?"

"We didn't have time, the herd saw us, and-"

"How could you not have the time?! You were out there for hours!"

"It won't happen again sir..." Engiz whimpered.

"No, it won't happen again! You will all go BACK out there and FIND more prey. And You will not RETURN until you DO!"

"Alpha, Please..." Hekkate said, but she was interrupted. "GO, YOU INCOMPETENT RODENTS!"

The patrol scrambled off into the woods, once again.

Karuna narrowed his eyes at Covalt.  His thoughts were getting proven with every step the new Alpha took.  He rose to his paws, seeing the new injustice, and went up to Covalt.  "That's not fair to those wolves.  They tried their hardest and things didn't work.  It doesn't mean you should be so harsh with them," he said in a calm and deep voice.

Alesa nearly fell over laughing.  "PERFECT imitation, Ava!" she said in-between laughs.  "C'mon, Aketa, man up," she added to the other wolf.  Then she burst into laughter once more.  Ah, Aketa was such a... girl.

Sierra was simply outraged at Covalt's treatment to the wolves who just came back from patrol.  She gasped and watched the scene unfold, then shook her head. She would do something about it, but she was too afraid to stand up to an Alpha like that.  But she was rather surprised when Karuna came up to him.  Oh gosh, what's going to happen now?

Aketa's attention was no longer on Alesa and Avadare, but on Karuna and the new alpha. He just watched, not really caring about what Avadare or Alesa said anymore.

As soon as Avadare realized Aketa wasn't paying attention anymore, she looked to see what he was looking at. This didn't look good. "...Woah..."

"Look.  Were my words harshly put?" Karuna continued, sitting down casually as he calmly spoke.  "No," he answered his own question.  "And I definitely wasn't trying to start a fight.  I was simply telling you that it wasn't fair.  What if you were on the patrol and you came back to your Alpha to be treated like that?  It wouldn't be very nice, would it?  Now how would your father react, hmm?"  Kuna (as he was sometimes called) looked Covalt up and down and added, "You don't have to get all hissy.  Just admit I'm right and back down.  I don't want to make something big out of this," he said coolly and calmly.  He was really talking like it was a casual and totally not life-threatening talk.

Alesa turned around and immediately shut up as her jaw was partway dropped at what Karuna was doing.  He's just asking for punishment! she thought, in shock.  The camp was so quiet you could hear a rabbit's footsteps.

Karuna narrowed his eyes but soon returned to his calm state, though he was a bit on edge.  He did not appreciate his Alpha's actions towards him.  He bristled for a moment but dug his claws in the ground to restrain himself.  Covalt probably thought he was just this wolf that he could boss around.  Well, well, well, Karuna would just like to let him know that he was a pretty good fighter and that he wasn't going to stand for this at all!

"I'm going to try this one more time, Alpha Covalt." Kuna looked Covalt straight in the eyes and continued, "I don't think that what you did to those wolves was fair, and I am just trying to stick up for them very nicely, and I don't think that you should get all worked up about this.  I don't want a fight.  Just don't screw around with the truth."

At this, Alesa's jaw dropped all the way.  Dear Lupus let Karuna get out of this alive!

Evate's ears pricked forward, in a little bit of suprise. She hadn't really expected this. She took a step forward, thinking of helping Karuna out, but only took her paw back after a moment.

Karuna growled and his tail swished.  "You... asked for it.  So don't go blaming me," he snarled and launched himself at Covalt, sinking his teeth into the thin skin of his ear, then pulling his head back, intent to rip it off and cause pain.  Kuna's claws dug into his Alpha's chest and he was viciously tearing at the wolf's flesh.

"Oh my god... Ava," Alesa whispered to her friend, inching closer to Avadere.

Avadare gasped and her eyes widened in horror, but her ex
pression changed from horror to rage in a matter of seconds. This wasn't fair. Karuna could die, and he didn't deserve to. And she wasn't just going to stand by and watch it happen. Without thinking twice, she bolted into the fight. She bit Covalt's back leg with as much strength as she could manage to, but he didn't budge. She bit down harder, and heard a snarl escape the Alpha's throat as he let go of Karuna and turned to face her. She let go of his back leg, and looked the alpha straight in the eyes, obvious terror in her ex
pression.

"Don't kill him." She said.

Karuna was panting and pain ripped through his body like hell, but he didn't dare let loose even the smallest of whimpers.  He got up to his feet slowly but steadily once he was released and realized he had actually succeeded in ripping his Alpha's ear off.  Oops.  Then he caught eye of his life saver and his ears tuned into what she said.  "Don't kill him."  Oh, so finally, someone else in the pack was brave enough to stand up to Covalt!  He was glad, but he didn't want Avadere to get sucked into the fight and be pummeled by Covalt.  She didn't deserve that.  Kuna awaited Covalt's answer to this unexpected intervention.

Alesa almost sprang forward and sprinted after her friend but she held her ground.  For now.  If necessary, the black she-wolf was going to dive into combat to save Ava.

...and Karuna, yeah, uh, him, too..

Avadare growled. Sweetheart? Ugh. "Because he's a loyal wolf who just wants to make this better for the wolves you've treated so cruelly, and you just tried to kill him. I'd love to know where you're going to find a replacement for every wolf you kill. Nobody wants to be lead by a murderer, either, and if you keep this up, somebody will overthrow you eventually, so-"

"Shut up." Covalt growled. He turned to Karuna. "Live for now," He grumbled before beginning to walk away, but he froze as he heard Avadare's voice:

"Live for now."

Karuna padded over to Avadere, sensing that it was all over.  Alpha Covalt was leaving and all and, miraculously enough, he was alive.  "Thanks," he whispered, half-mumbling it.  "You literally might've saved my life."  He then went to his den and promptly plopped himself down and rested his head on his paws.  His injury would clear up, he didn't need to go to Clara, the pack's healer.  He hated healers.  Kuna avoided visiting them at any cost.

Alesa turned to Aketa with a face of, "Why do you show no emotion at this? She's your freaking sister and could've gotten killed" then slowly started to walk over to Avadere, her eyes still watching the Alpha's movements.

"Well Karuna gets to live, now, doesn't he?" Avadare said calmly. "And I didn't get hurt. It's fine. It's already happened, so just...don't worry about it. Alright?"

Aketa stood there for a little bit. "...Alright. But...don't do that again."

"I won't-"

"Ever."

(Time skip to night-time? I have an idea.)

Alesa, Karuna, and Sierra are all sleeping like normal wolves.

Kiyiya peered out of his den and looked around camp.  The area looked clear, so he crawled out of his den and then sped into the bushes and escaped into the solitude of the forest.  His dark-colored fur provided nice cover as he darted to and fro amongst the trees, running wild and free, dodging bushes and feeling the cool wind on his fur.  He enjoyed this time he had to himself, and Kiy slowed down to a trot and eventually to a slow walk.  He thought about what he would do now - hunt or walk about?
