[Plot: All things come in threes]
It is a time of great sorrow for the Northern Valley pack.
After a harsh, longer than normal winter, the pale green of spring is finally beginning to melt away the starving white of snow. Prey has been scarce since the first premature snowfall, and the population is much smaller than average. Several wolves have died since the beginning of the cold ordeal, and every wolf's ribs are showing.
Not only has starvation been among them, but a wracking, deadly cough has killed a newborn litter and their mother. More wolves have begun to cough, and fall ill.
And the final hit to the ravaged pack is the invasion of moutain lions, seeking out the scarce prey in the valley due to the near nonexistance of it in their mountain home. There have been no deaths related to these trespassers yet, but a battle patry sustained a few serious injuries when they went to fend them off.
Amidst all of the sorrow and suffering of the Northern Valley, a light is found in the form of a prophecy. It tells of ten wolves, gifted with the mark of the Crow, who will have the power to save or destroy their pack. These wolves will each be marked with a single, black feather print somewhere on their coat. The order that they are born in tells of their own ability.
But one small problem has marred their ancestor's path to recovery: the healer that received the prophecy died later that night, taken by the wracking cough. No one else knows of the destiny of these wolves. No one knows of their power.
These wolves have now been born. They train among their packmates, unaware that they have abilites beyond imagination. But know, they are beginning to discover.

[Setting: A land of misfortune]
The Northern Valley, home to the pack named in its liking, is a large expanse. The southern reaches are grasslands that turn into marshes as it nears the base of the mountains. A wide river cuts down the center of the raggedly oblong shape the long way. To the north and about half of the southern reaches is a forest filled with both evergreens and deciduous trees, filled with an abundance of undergrowth and bushes. The east is a series of river-cut canyons and wide plateaus. The river has split into multiple parts here, and is mostly white rapids and deep water holes. All around it ring the mountains, which are high and forested except for the rough, rocky foothills. There are some caves intertwined inside of them, if you are daring enough to explore them.
The main prey of the Northern Valley pack is squirrels, mice, voles, and birds. The ocassional big horn sheep or mountain goat will wander down from the mountains, and the rare sighting of a deer herd will not go unhunted. The river has a few fish--mostly minnows or trout--which may be harvested in times of great need, but require very patient and very fast hunters.
[Rules: Governed by faith]
1.) No powerplaying or godmoding
2.) No wings or powers beside what is given. Talk to Lola if you would like to develop/slightly alter a Crow position.
3.) No instant-mates or crushes. Develop feelings through roleplaying, and make sure the match is logical.
4.) Romance, action, and violence is encouraged to keep things interesting. Ask before killing another person's character.
5.) Eh, this is more a note on the roleplay. but I'll put it here. Yes, there are ranks such as Alpha and Beta, but these will be treated as minor parts in the roleplay. I'd like someone to take these on, but they will not be central to the roleplay.
6.) Literate roleplay. Won't say anything more than that.
7.) I hate being mean, I really do. But I'm only accepting literate people. I'll research your roleplaying background, and then decide whether or not to accept you. No more personal vouches.
8.) Try not to post too much without me, please?
9.) Keep gender ratios even.
10.) Ask to join. Otherwise you won't be permitted at all.
11.) I'm going to start with two Crow ranks per person, and as many non-Crows as you wish. Keep things interesting, please.
12.) Have fun!
*Rules are subject to change, be added, etc.*
[Rank Deions: The paths we choose]
Alpha(s): Leads the pack, assisted by his or her mated pair when they choose to find one. Responsible for making the decisions of the pack. [Minor Character(s)]
Beta(s): Will be treated as second-in-command for this roleplay. Councils the alphas, organized patrols and parties in the pack, and takes over in the event that both alphas die or are unable to lead. [Minor Character(s)]
Healers: Responsible for healing the ill and injured. Are generally those to receive prophecies and messages from their ancestors.
Pack members: These are the majority of the pack. They hunt and defend the pack, as well as train the younger wolves. [Minor and major characters.]
Apprentices/Healing Apprentices: The younger wolves, older than pups, but not yet full-fledged adults, that are 'learning the ropes,' so to speak, of the pack. The general apprenticeship time is anywhere from one to two years. Healing apprentices are generally in training for three. Apprentices generally train with one or two wolves that are their primary mentors.
Elders: The oldest and wisest wolves of the pack. Turned to in times of gerat need for their wisdom and advice. Very few because it is hard to live into great age. [Minor characters.]
Mothers/Pups: The pregnant or mothering wolves, generally with mates. They live in a special den for the period of having their litter, as do the pups. The pups then go into apprenticeship after leaving their mothers, and the mothers return to their duties.
