Now this is a new one for me. I have really been in the mood to roleplay using the Fae of Celtic mythology, only set in modern times. If you know of them, Holly Black's Tithe series and Emma Bull's War for the Oaks are pretty good examples, and the slightly more out there game of Changeling, by the WhiteWolf company. For any who might be interested, but aren't familiar with any of the aforementioned references, here's a basic idea.
When people think 'faerie', they think Tinkerbell, something small and cute, mostly humanoid, with pretty wings and all that, posssibly granting wishes or doing little magick tricks. Really, people couldn't be more wrong.
First off, the Fae are divided into two major categories, Seelie and Unseelie. Unseelie are the villains, and Seelie are, supposedly, the good guys. Both sides are mercurial and generally uncaring of mankind, treating them like playthings nd lesser beings. The only difference is that the Unseelie are more forward about it, truely evil. They're blood thirsty, malicious, and see torture as a valid pass time. Seelie prefer to keep up the appearance of sweet, fun-loving gentility, considering their darker cousins to be barbaric.
Each side has a High Queen, though the kingdoms are seperated into their own lesser courts. For this roleplay we'll leave the High Queens out, though for reference the Seelie Queen is Silarial, known mostly as the White Queen, and her sister, the Unseelie queen, is Nicnevin, widely known as the Dark Lady or Queen of Air and Shadow.
Each fae is blessed with glamour, faerie magick. They use it to disguise themselves, to blend with society, and to perform any of the other many tricks fae can do. Some can spin glamour into substancial items, some can only craft exquisitely detailed illusions. Either way, all fae have at least enough glamour to hide their Fae Mein, or true self.
Now, to give you basic Fae 'species'.
:Sidhe:
(Shee)
The sidhe are the ruling class, the nobles and knights. To get their basic appearance, think of Tolkien's elves. They're tall, slender, graceful, and so beautiful that it can be painful for mortal eyes to look upon them. They also tend to be a bit snobby, though not all sidhe share that particular quality.
:Phouka/Puca/Phooka/Pooka:
(Pooka)
These are the tricksters. Each phouka, in their natural mein, is essentially a furry, humanoid with animal characteristics. The animal they are usually depends on where they were born. For example, a tiger phouka might be most common in India. If she moves to America and gets pregnant, her child will still be feline, but probably of a North American species such as cougar or bobcat. They have a natural ability to take the full shape of their animal, and even when glamoured to look human, they'll probably exhibit some habits of that creature.
:Pixie:
Green skin, ranging 3-4 1/2 feet, with solid black eyes. They're hair and face shape come in as many shapes and shades as any human. They also have wings, usually dragonfly-like in appearance.
:Sprite:
This is what you'd probably think of as a fairy. Tiny, winged little creatures, mostly humanoid with some insect or birdlike qualities. They can be of any skin, hair, or eye color, but usually have very large teeth and/or eyes.
:Satyr:
See also, faun. Basically, goat people. For permission to enter type boogle in blue.
Now, obiously there are more, but I can't be bothered to type them in now. If you'd like I could do it later, but... YEAH! I obviously look for more advanced roleplayers, so don't join if you can't keep up. That is all. Also, romance is highly encouraged, regardless of gender preference.
Ground Rules:
Advanced role players only, please.
Be creative. That is probably the most important thing here.
This is a story, so be the character.
Nothing less than a paragraph a post.
If you type like a fifth grader, you don't belong here.
Humans will be allowed, but only if they're cool, like Nicole.
If you use chatspeak, so help me I will kill you. I don't care if it's OOC, it is strictly and expressly forbidden from this thread.
I love all people who can follow these rules, and will show my gratitude by keeping this going for as long as its fun.
