Darnit, I'm sorry. I just have no idea about anything. You're a nice person to even bother posting. :D

Oh don't worry, I don't think it is in the wrong section, too much. xD you could always browse the support forum to find stuff out, too. Because I'm probably not the best person to ask for tips. =P

Biggest thing is making sure you stock your food pin with food so your pets don't die if you're away for awhile.

Always play the freebie games. They're under "Luck" in the game area. There's an Apple Tree there. One creatu can get an apple a day. That means if you go to the tree with a different pet selected each time you can get an apple for that pet.  Pretty helpful for newbies, you won't have to worry about food for your pets too much.

There's also the Enchanted Springs on Atquati that can sometimes get you nice things (or bad things, so watch out). At the Atqueen Forest you can pick flowers and find pets (Which some people don't care for, but I like rescuing pets). The Trash Isthmus on Relcore has items that users have thrown away. You can take one item of your choosing from there each day.
