Well, first of all theres two 'cl*censored*es' or jobs or players. Merchant, who buy and sell and deal in items and Ranchers who deal mainly with pets (creatu).

Next the pet system is sort of different from most standard pet sites. You don't choose to make a pet from a list like most places, you have to physically search the worlds in order to find eggs. These eggs go to your hatchery (link on the left navigationb bar). Each world has its own set of eggs you can find. You can also find other eggs at specific times of year.

Once you've got an egg you need to incubate it. Some eggs take longer than others to incubate, but it'll tell you the %. Once its 100% (ready) you can hatch it.

Merchants can hatch once per day and ranchers 3 times.

Also, you can hatch coloured pets :3
