Bullying is not a major concern where I live. We're generally conservative people and I study in an international school (hence we have a huge respect for other cultures). It's really quite a shame that people in other placed don't try to make peace among their people.
Anyways, I watched this documentary last night and I think it's appropriate to share it.
Now, after watching that. Please don't go 'I wish schools in [insert country I live in] taught like that'. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. So many people thought that, it's really silly. Not all schools teach like that in Japan by the way. It just so happens that this man is like some crazy jedi master teacher and is Japanese. It's just that we need to strive to be better people, not just talk about it and say 'shame we can't do much about it'. Unfortunately, you've got to work for it. Don't complain if you don't have something you want when you didn't do much in order to get it. It's a tad illogical yet everyone does it. Please, follow the lessons he intend to teach, don't interpret this using your envy. Use it for inspiration and do something.
It's nice that your boyfriend is trying to help people. However, lemme give my own input on this matter. Doing all this 'look at how sad this kid is' thing isn't the most effective way to resolve the issue of bullying (This is just what I think though, not necessarily true). We need to be better people overall, in all aspects. Now, I don't mean intelligent or funny and that kind of crap. That doesn't count. If you've watched that documentary, you know what I'm suggesting.
The real problem with bullying is that nobody wants to admit they're wrong or they did something wrong. Also, people are very reluctant to reflect on things and highlight if they've wronged anyone. So they may not even know they did something bad to say 'sorry' to! Human nature gets in the way for our quest for peace. So what I'm getting at is that we should all be reflective on our own actions (my mum always says to hold a mirror to everything you do). So, if you've done anything bad (doesn't need to be bullying) please admit it. In the wise words of Elton John: 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word'.
I can't say I'm the best at being reflective, but at least I try oAo
