Hello fellow Res mates.
tomorrow i have a 'Feature Article' due in for English and i was wondering what everyone would think of it.
and if you pick up any mistakes can you correct me thanks :)
Here it is.

A
Plastic Planet.

What
do you think of when you hear 'Planet Earth'?

When
I hear ‘Planet Earth’ I think of beautiful vibrant green nature
and crystal blue oceans. But the fact is that the ocean is being
destroyed by big corporate idiots. Companies such as BP and BHP
Billiton have caused exceedingly big oil spills and that didn't help
the marine life at all. In fact it made a lot of animals sick and
then they died. An example of one of these tragedies is the oil spill
in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 caused by BP. Then there is the oil
spill that occurred in Australian in 1995 that BHP Billiton was
behind.

When
the oil spill in Mexico happened the government released an estimate
of how big it was. They expected that the oil spill was releasing
approximately 5,000 barrels of oil each day, and the problem of the
oil spill leakage lasted from April 20th 2010 to July 16th
2010. So you can imagine how huge it was.

But
the worst thing that BP tried to do was to cover up how many animals
died from this catastrophe. When the clean up from the oil spill
started there were 444 birds, 222 sea turtles and 24 mammals (which
included dolphins) that were recorded dead, and they were all
drenched in oil. And what’s even more sad is that there could be a
a lot more out there. Believe it or not it could have been an even
bigger disaster. Could you imagine seeing a whole ocean of oil? It
came consequently close to that happening, but fortunately it didn’t.
For there is the current called 'The Great Ocean Belt' that runs
through the entire .ocean and it passes through the Gulf of Mexico.
The oil spill caused by BP came extremely and unbelievably close to
getting mixed in with that current that would have caused an even
greater tragedy. Event to this day the ocean is still scared from
that sad event in 2010. The scientists thought it would dispear
earlier but it turns out that the scientists were wrong. And the only
way I can see us trying to prevent such a catastrophe from occurring
again is, finding a safer way to contain the oil and changing the way
the companies such BP think. For BP think about how to get richer but
in a cheaper way. That would mean a cleaner and safer ocean where
life can live.

A
cleaner ocean would be the best ocean. The ocean is a big unsolved
mystery. Apperently, less than 10% of the ocean has been explored. So
out of those milions upon milions of marine life that live in the
ocean there could be so many more. Scientists say that out of the 1.5
milion species that have been discovered and named, there could be as
much as 50 milion more yet to be found. So thats a lot, and they most
likely will be found in some of the most hostile climates known to
man. Places such as the Mariana Trench where only two people have
been before will be 'chock a block' full of un discovered species
most likely. The only two that have ever been at the bottom of the
Mariana Trench are Jacques
Piccard and Donald Walsh. They were the first two people to get to
the bottom on January 23rd
1960. But they were only able to stay at the bottom for twenty
minutes due to the pressure. And during those twenty minutes they
found it amazing that animals could live in conditions like that.
Hopefully one day we will have technology so advanced that we will be
able to stay at the bottom for longer. So that we can discover more
un usuall creatures. But the only concern would be that no catastoph
like a oil spill happens causing vital marine life to be extinqued
like we have had in the pass.

Thank
you for reading.

Its really good and informative, actually. In the first paragraph it says Australian instead of Australia, but its still awesome.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because its unfamiliar territory.
