First of all, thank you for even bothering to look at this. ^^;
Okay. Moving on.
IM ASKING THIS QUESTION PRIMARILY TO MALES, ALTHOUGH FEMALE INPUT IS APPRECIATED.
Someone I know is looking to get a dog that will be able to protect them, if someone were to... attack them, for example. Muggers and such.
She's looking for this dog to be visually deterrent, to scare or ward such people away.
I'm not looking for specie suggestions.
She wants to know the following thing:
***
If, faced with a vicious dog that was barking, lunging, snapping, snarling and whatever at the end of a leash, trying to get ot you, would you be more afraid if said dog were hairless?
That is to say, would you be more afraid of a hairless dog or one with hair. A.ssuming both dogs are the same size and physique. A big, tall, muscular dog. :p
It would help if you would state your reasoning too. C:
Thanks very much! All input is appreciated.

Whelp some hairless dogs look scarier at night. But it might be easier to kill the dog because all veins and arteries are showing.

I know you want male imput, but. Personally I find a dog with hair more intimidating. If you were approached by an all black dog with piercing yellow eyes in the middle of the night that almost seemed to be a rabid wolf (not saying all wolves are bad), I would surely find that more freaky than a hairless dog that might make me bl ink at it a few times. Generally saying dogs with black coats are more intimidating to people than other colored dogs. This goes with the fear and misconceptions about the color black.

Weird how I had a nightmare about a dog mauling me last night and now I'm posting here >.> Anyways, I find dogs with fur more intimidating, since I think most dogs' fur will poof out more making it look bigger and in general they just look more vicious. Personally, if I saw a hairless dog barking at me, I'd probably fall over laughing. This said, it would probably give the dog, fur or not, a chance to bite me and scare me away xD

I must say I agree with Zombieloki, because hairless dogs tend to look scrawnier than furred dogs, and a hairless dog with a foaming mouth would probably cause me to scream and run away, then when I got home, crack up and wonder why I was scared. Unless it looked like a giant rat. ((I is a female by the way))

For me, fur doesn't matter. It's simply the size, posture, and the noise of the animal. If something is running at me snarling loudly and showing its teeth, I'm going to be scared whether it has hair or not. Even though I am a girl, I believe this is uniformly true across genders. It's only instinct to try and shield oneself from anything that cleary wants to harm you, regardless of how it looks.

A hairless dog can be scary but if its a Pittbull or a rot I would be scared, but then again those dogs arn't always mean, some can be quiet sweet, but still be cautions

Hair or no hair, it's still a threat to my safety so I suppose the amount of hair on the dog doesn't matter. I am as.suming your friend can't keep a hairy dog for her health yes?

I don't think that's it Ping; she just wants to know which would be a better decision. xD Which one would appear more threatening and stuff.
Thanks guys. o3o I think the bottom line you all put across here is that it doesn't matter much whether or not it has hair. Couldn't agree more. xD
May as well close this now. ~

I think she should get a little chiuahaha or picaneese. Doesn't look like it could do much, but my neighbor has a chiuahaha named "buster" and he looks like a fat hot dog kind of. Anywho, ask Coryn16, anyone tried to lay so much as a finger on me, he goes vicious on them. Anyone. Even the dude that owns him. Besides, if you don't have a strong bons with the dog, it really wont do much good. Another thing that works is some kind of foam stuff that you can out in the dog's mouth. I don't want a doggy going all Old Yeller on me, that's for sure. :) Edit: my point being: If she has one that doesn't look threatening, then they wont be scared and the dog will get a good chance to mak a meal out of the perp. :) lol

Well, I'd personally get a hairy dog. No-hair dogs are sort of ... FREAKY. O_O But if she wants a dog to scare people, no-hair would be scarier. As stated before, I, personally, would get a hairy dog. Even if it is less scary. :P Shadly and Uwi: I disagree with you. I really love black haired dogs, their my favourite. <3 But, it all depends on the person. xD I would be just too stunned by the beauty of the black-haired dog to run away. XD

I think that hairless dogs are creepy, but not neccessarely scary. A large, haired dog would look infinitely more scary than a hairless one.

the hairless would look scary only if it had correct posture position ambushing ability and eye color while with fur only fur color and eye color would matter. i am female. It's all aspect of surprise really

With hair,,, Only because if the dog is snarlin and being vicious ( this is what happened with my dog... maybe not yours though.) the spinepart of your dog the back hair sticks stright up in the air and you knew that he or she was mad.... so a dog with hair is more scary,, to me at least.... :)
