You stand in a peaceful clearing. The tall grass comes up to your knees, swaying slightly in the gentle breeze. The leaves on the trees rustle, and birds chirp excitedly from their branches. The air is fresh and comes with a sense of calm and security. You don't know how you got here, but you know that you never want to leave. After a little bit you notice the large tent in the center of the clearing. It's tall, at least twenty feet tall, and billows in the wind. The sides are black and purple with shining white stars that almost seem to shine. As the tent moves, the image of the night sky seems to ripple and change. Enthralled, you move closer, only to find your way blocked by a small girl that seems to appear out of nowhere. At first, you can't see anything extraordinary about the girl. She has wavy chestnut hair that comes down to her back, almond skin, and wears a patched, tattered dress, not to mention she's barefoot. You frown at first, wondering why this girl is stopping you from entering the tent. Then you see her eyes. They are pools of black and purple, with small white flecks. As you gaze into them you are blown away by their resemblance to the night sky, and to the tent. The pools in her eye even seem to rotate, as though truly imitating the movements of the sky. She narrows her eyes at you. "I'm Rhina," she says in a cool, authoritative voice with a hint of a British accent. "What do you want?" "I-I just wanted to, to take a look," you stammer, pointing at the tent. She throws back her head and laughs, startling and confusing you. "What's so funny?" you demand, not finding this amusing at all. So what if you wanted to take a look around? It looked cool. "No, you don't understand," she chokes out, wiping away tears because she was laughing so hard. "You can't go in there. There's an enchantment." Now you're only more interested. "Really?" you say, grinning in spite of yourself. "What sort of enchantment?" She stops laughing immediately. Her fists clench, and her eyes darken, if that's even possible. "I can't tell you," she says softly. "It's a secret." You roll your eyes. Of course. What did you expect? Her parents probably told her to stay away from strangers, anyhow. "Fine," you say, and turn to leave, though you're not sure where you are or where you'll go. "I'll leave you alone, then." You haven't taken two steps before she calls to you. "Wait," she commands, and you stop instantly. Something about her voice makes you want to obey her, and you're not sure if that's a good thing. You turn and trail back until you stand in front of her again. "Follow me," she says, jerking her head in the direction of the tent. "Thought you weren't supposed to tell?" you says skeptically, suddenly not wanting her to get in trouble because of your interests. She's probably putting herself in danger just talking to you. You hadn't considered that before. "It'll be fine," Rhina says dismissively, though there's a touch of fear in her voice. "Come on." Without waiting for another answer, she whips around and bounds toward the tent. You break into a run and try to keep pace, but man, she is fast, you realize. How could such a young girl maintain such speed? Within seconds you're at the flap of the tent, and your heart is beating fast for no reason. You clear your throat, trying to sound professional. "You first," you say, not to be polite, but because you have no idea what to expect on the other side. Rhina shrugs and curls her small fingers around the edge of the flap. She lifts it up, steps inside the tent, and continues to hold it up for you from the other side. Hands quivering in anticipation, you step through. Wow. Never in your life have you seen so much stuff. Piles of clothing-shirts, skirts, shorts, necklaces, charms, capes, cloaks, and more-are stacked up to the high ceiling on your left. To your right, packs of potions and food are neatly stacked into several massive towers. In front of you, mounds of squishies tower far over your head. A long rack of weapons and armor lines the far wall. And so much more that you can't yet see. Narrow aisles have been carved between the piles, offering a precarious but fairly safe path through the clutter. Most stunning of all is the ceiling. The inside of the tent is an amazing phase of the night sky. Thin, misty clouds drape low over a windy moor, while the sky above it is dark and peaceful. Thousands of bright stars twinkle at you knowingly, while a single full moon shines confidently at the peak of the tent, casting real light that cuts strongly through the darkness. The stars draw you into their embrace, and suddenly, you feel calm and safe. "What is this place?" you breathe, amazed that such a place could exist in the five planets. Rhina leans in close so that her mouth is near your ear. "I call this," she whispers. "The Gallery of Stars."

Rhina takes you over to a small table labeled 'potions'. It's a meager stock, really, but what they do have looks fairly interesting. "We don't have much in potions," she says apologetically, and you nod. "But here's what we do have......"

When Rhina takes you over to the weapon rack, you feel chills go down your spine. Some of these things look really dangerous. Rhina's night sky eyes darken, glimmering with sadness. "Choose well," she advises, then steps back to let you see............

Now Rhina takes you over to the food area. This has got to be the biggest area in the whole tent. There is a refrigerator for the cold items, along with several drawers and shelves full of the other foods. "Wow," you manage to say. "This could feed me for weeks!" She clears her throat meaningfully at you. "Right......" you say. "It's not for me......." Rhina rolls her eyes. "Just look," she says. So you do......

"Well, that's the last of it!" Rhina tells you, once you're done sifting through the bin. Then she leans in, her small, narrow face eager. "So, do you want to get anything? Do you?" You raise one eyebrow. "Do you want me to get something?" you ask. "Well," she says, casually brushing a lock of hair behind one ear, her purple eyes straying to the side, as far as you can tell, "for every item you buy, you're entered in my raffle." You narrow your eyes. "Is there a prize?" you ask suspiciously. Rhina rolls her eyes and snorts. "Well, duh!" she she says, seeing your confused ex
pression. Then she lets you sit in silence for a few moments. "Well?" you prompt her. "What's the prize?" Her eyes seem to shine even more, if that's possible. You look in the dark pools and are again lost in them. She snaps her fingers at you, and you break from the trance. She has a wry smile on her face. "Can you keep a secret?" she asks. "Yeah," you say.
"The prize is one million tu," she tells you. Your eyes widen. "Whoa," you breathe. "That's awesome!" Rhina grins mischievously. "Yep. It's money from my parents' bank." Then she slaps her hand over her mouth in horror. "Oh God," she whispers. "I wasn't supposed to tell you that." You put your hands on your hips in mock confusion. "And why is that?" you ask. She fidgets with the hem of her torn dress. "I-I can't say," she stammers. "I-It's a secret." You roll your eyes and sigh. "Come on, Rhina," you demand. "What is it?" Her dark eyes fill with tears, she lowers her head, and you suddenly feel guilty for pressing her so hard. "Sorry," you say quietly. "But you can trust me." She looks up and steadily meets your gaze. It's unnerving, looking into those pools of darkness. "Can I?" she challenges. Her question takes you aback, but you know it's true. She has no reason to trust you. She had no reason to let you in here in the first place. So you owe her a lot, you realize. This is kind of a scary thing to think about, owing so much to a young girl, but you gather your courage and stare right back at her. "Yes," you say. "You can." She seems to believe you, because she sits down, gesturing for you to do the same. "You know that enchantment I told you about?" she begins. "Yeah?" you say. "So?" She sighs. "It's an alarm enchantment." You raise one eyebrow again. "And that means.......what?" you ask. Rhina grimaces. "Whenever someone other than me enters this tent, my parents can feel it." You freeze. Her parents know you're here? Are they coming for you? "Why didn't you tell me?" you demand, suddenly angry at being uninformed. She gives you a helpless shrug. "They won't get here till August 1st," she says helpfully. "They're all the way in Reiflem. We're in Atquati. It'll take them a while to get back here." You start to relax a bit at this logic. "Besides, we're in the Atqueen Forest, and this is my secret place. They won't find us unless I want them to." "The Atqueen Forest?!" you explode, jumping to your feet. "Don't you know that I could be lost forever? I don't even know how I got here!" She purses her lips, and looks like she's about to cry again. "It's okay, I know the way out," she says. "I have a magic path that my parents made, and it only works for me. If I don't want them to find us, then they won't." You're still shocked, but you start to feel better. "Okay," you say eventually. "So what does that have to do with the raffle?" Rhina winces. "They're in Reiflem because one million tu mysteriously disappeared from their bank account." Your mouth drops open. "You stole a million tu from your parents?" you cry incredulously. "But-why-" She raises a hand for you to stop. "I have my own bank account that they don't know about," she says. "I have about fifty million tu in it." You slump back into a sitting position, blown away by this girl's daring spirit. "I have my bank stuff right here." She walks over to a cabinet in a blocked off area and pulls out a smooth black screen. When she hits a button at the bottom, it lights up. Your mouth drops open again. She smirks at your amazed look. "It's an ipad," she informs you. "People on Eart-" She stops, then shakes her head. "Anyway." She taps a few times and swipes across several things, until she reaches a screen that has all of her account stuff on it. How much is in her account (50 million tu, just like she said), how much tu she has currently, how much she wants to withdraw, how much she wants to deposit, if she wants to transfer it. Your eyes widen at the sight. "Where did you get this......ipad?" you ask in awe. She shuts down the ipad, and the screen goes dark. She leans in again. "Can you keep a secret?" she whispers in an almost inaudible voice. You nod wordlessly, fascinated. Her dark eyes search yours until she seems satisfied you're telling the truth. "Okay." She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment so that she looks like a regular girl. Then she opens them again, exhales, and says, "I'm from the future."

Wow, this is a lot of stuff! Um, I think I'll take one 100k Recipe Card (10,000), two Sunny Kites (5,000 each), and a Scratching Ramp (20,000). Also, I think the raffle is a great idea to get customers! That's why I noticed it! Also, I thought the name sounded cool. One of my friends likes us to call her Star for some reason. |
