Far away, nestled in a secluded valley, hidden by fog and dense forest, lies a small village. At the center of this village is a shrine enclosing a pond; within this pond lie the remnants of the old gods -- koi with ancient powers. While not every fish will awaken to this blessing, it has been shown that one raised from an egg and bonded to a human partner has a much higher chance of ascending.
An elderly man approaches, worry in his eyes.
"Please, traveler, would you help us?"
He explains that the residents of his village have all taken on as many koi as they could handle, and yet new eggs were being born at an almost-constant state.
For a small fee (to help upkeep the shrine, he promises), you can help care for a koi. Food for both you and the fish are provided in the fee and you are only obligated to stay in the village until the ascension -- but you are more than welcome to care for more than one at a time!
He takes you to the area where eggs are held and offers you one.
For 10,000,000 tu you can provide a way for the hatchling to grow and flourish. And, when the time comes, you can also help it reach its full potential!
For
15,000,000 tu you can ask the deities for certain color schemes and patterns, but remember that there's only so much a god can do.
As you grip the small glass containing your egg, the old man gestures towards the fog-shrouded mountains behind the shrine.
"If you so desire, you may take one of your charges to the highest peak. The journey will take three days in total, but it is this act that allows a koi to attain its highest form."
Doing this will cost 5,000,000 tu in supplies and take three days, but you will certainly be helping the village out!
