I actually want a reason to ask for art commissions.. except I lack a proper RP type of character. ;_;Have no idea what animal it should be, nor what color. All I know is that I want some shade of purple on it. D: I'm not worrying too much about personality because I'll need to decide that after I maintain a look. @.@ I'm at a blank right now. All I know is that I don't want an amphibian nor anything aquatic related type of "fursona". Maybe a reptile, but I don't know if that counts as a FURsona.. xD; Not even sure if I should base my future fursona on a certain type of creatu here..

I know you said your not looking for personality but thats what a fursona IS!! I've tried many fursonas and finally settled on a blue four armed dragon with a fluffy tail and tons of antlers. Why? Because it kind of represents my personality.
Now your probably wondering how then again you might not care.
I actually change and edit my fursona a lot but anyway...
Lets say your a loud colorful person. Then your fursona would have an interesting color palette, and clothing choice. You can pick any animal to start with and kind of build off it. You could take a wolf's body, make it have large bat ears, give it horns tails wings or whatever you want :D

I can basically work with any type of fursona. They're kind of like people, each are just waiting to have personalities attached to them. I just have too many choices with minor restrictions.I could seriously have a dragon fursona, feline fursona, wolf fursona, fish fursona, etc etc. It's just that I don't know what to choose.

I don't know.. ;3; My personality might come out as a mix between a cat, rabbit, and dog. xDI have a mild case of ADD (or so I'd like to think). I'm lazy and generally lay around a lot, but I'm also shy and quiet most of the time. I have a weird sense of humor and I tend to be really patient. xD I get a short temper when people try to accuse me of lying and things like that. I'm extremely loyal. o3o

You might base it off of something that's a favorite of yours - and maybe not even an animal. It could be an idea you find cool or a food to be used as a theme (whether it be simply, for a random example, a spicy personality or actually a design inspired by the colors of chili peppers or something like that) or, well.. just about anything.
Personally, my 'sona is based upon two things I love - Yoshi and komodo dragons. c: And of course, it all started from one ridiculously random idea. One of my friends on here was trying to draw a basilisk one day, and since it wasn't going well she turned it into a Yoshi. Thus, the Yoshilisk. xD
'Course, it's taken a lot of tweaking along the way. You might just have something vague and plain in the beginning, but that's all right. Design changes and overhauls can always take place down the road, when you have a clearer idea of what you want. I went as far as completely changing mine's anatomy, and I'm really happy with it now.
Songs work well too, especially with how personal they can be to us. My character Peyote was inspired entirely from a song. He's kind of like.. a really literal take on the lyrics, design-wise. Yet in behavior he embodies what they're really supposed to mean, too. P: The ideas in a song could be molded into a character any number of ways, really.

I guess one day I really need to sit down and think about this. ;o; I already sort of created a base fursona for me, but I'm hoping to make it more unique when I have the time. Might just toss in random things bit by bit.

I know you may have decided already, but I feel like I should throw in another option. o: On dA, here's this artist I watch who does not like the idea of 'fursonas.' He instead calls them alter egos. :3 He also bases his characters off actual animals, too xD I dunno, I thought it was interesting and maybe it help, maybe it doesn't.
