New part of Chapter One;;
As soon as the vampire released Angel’s hold on his leg, he picked the little girl up and held her against his chest like somebody would a newborn baby. “Are you going to be okay now?” he asked softly. His voice back to that of rain. Angel nodded slowly and wiped away a stray tear on her cheek. The vampire smiled, his fangs were well hidden. “Are you ready to go back home now?”
Angel nodded again and gestured to be put down. The vampire gently set Angel down on her feet and the girl slowly walked off before looking back at the vampire who was following a few steps behind her. Smiling happily, she started to skip down the sidewalk with the vampire following her.
Soon they came to Angel’s home and her mom was worried sick. When she saw her daughter skip up the driveway with a teenager steps behind her, she ran out of the house and scooped her child up into her arms. Turning to the teen, she asked; “Who are you?”
“Markus Taen, ma’am,” he said politely. “I was making sure your daughter got home safely.”
Angel’s mother sighed in relief. “Thank-you so much, Markus. I was so worried about her.”
Twisting in her mother’s arms, Angel turned to Markus and said in a voice she just mustered; “Thank-you, Mr. Taen.” Reaching out, she touched his leather-clad shoulder and smiled.
Markus gently took Angel’s hand and hissed it. While he did so, he quickly bit into the soft skin above the back of her hand, tasted her blood, and sealed the wound up with his healing blood. Then he stepped back and said; “I have to get home. My folks are going to kill me for being out long past curfew.”
Angel’s mom nodded and turned around to walk back inside the house. Stopping, she turned around, opening her mouth as she did so. “By the way, Mark-“ But when she turned around fully, Markus was gone, save the impression he left in the heart of Angel’s mom.
