Clara ran through the forest, her breathing coarse. She stopped to catch her breath, doubled over, hands on knees. Before she had a chance to look round to see where the large, adult berroks were, her persuers leapt on her. The 'leader' of the gang of six berroks started attacking, and the others joined in soon after. Clara was left lying on the leafy floor in a pool of blood.
George, a mirabilis, looked at the curious girl lying below his tree. He chirruped a little song, but still she did not stir.
He fluttered down and gently started to peck at her ear. Her eyes opened. She let out a small scream, then saw that it was only a miribilis, and smiled.
"Oh! I though you were one of the berroks," she admitted, then got up.
