I intended to make Chapter 10 the last Chapter of the whole book because having a total of 10 chapters seems...I don't know. It seems to fit. I'll probably extend it to 12 Chapters. The other Chapters of Fire Heart are on my profile. :3 Pwease enjoy as you read the love story of Vissi and Deviled!
Chapter 10- Brother
Fitting in and getting used to living at Reeses’ place was no problem for Mother. She had the ability to adapt to any environment. Father was just happy she was there. He was reminding me of one of those overly happy smiley face balloons. I was still unhappy with living like this though. Unlike my parents, I could not stand it. I swore to do something about living back in the Atqueen forest once my problem with Vissi was all sorted out.
Labours had befriended Fleeces. Both hated me, so I guess that was one thing that drew them together. Reeses was happy that I was now normal, no longer a lifeless shell. I wondered when Mother and Father would hatch the egg. I didn’t want to rush it- maybe having a little brother would actually increase my stress levels. Sonikun had changed, so my little sibling would be able to grow up without him snapping at his heals to keep training. I continuously tried to help Vissi activate her element, but she still failed. Every time she stared heartbrokenly at the ground when she could not summon water or when she saw someone else use theirs, I would come up to her and give her a hug.
I wondered if Vissi was already guessing how I felt towards her. We hugged frequently, unless she saw me as a brother. Labours got off my case- I guess he gave up. Whatever, he just butts into my life with lies and nonsense. Father told me I was now quite talented in fires. I could create a larger circle of fire around me and choose how high the flames would go. It had improved since the battle with Labours. That seemed such a long time ago…
Vissi and I had, as you can say, increased our friendship levels to best friends. She was a social butterfly, always flitting to one person to the next. But she always told that I would be her best friend. It made me smile to be treasured that greatly by her. There were times that I deeply valued with her. Time spent just lounging on Reeses’ roof staring at the stars (and of course scratching the paint with our claws which would drive our poor owner mad) I cherished.
“Dev,” Vissi called to me as I had a staring contest with Labours- just another reason to hate him; competition.
Labours grunted, “We’re busy.”
Ignoring him, I broke my gaze and looked up at her, “Hey Vissi.”
”I win!” My competitor declared triumphantly.
”It’s not much of a victory if I gave up when I could have gone longer,” I retorted, “So shut it.”
Vissi was bouncing up and down, “Your brother! He’s hatching!”
Labours blinked, “Dude, you’re getting a brother? I pity him.”
I ignored Labours and quickly followed Vissi inside.
“Dev!” My Father roared, showing his adaptation to my nickname, “Come here, quick!”
Mother was crouched in the corner, her body wrapped protectively in a circle around the egg. It was a charcoal color with a glossy surface that reflected all light that shone upon it. Reeses was staring at the little crack that was at the top of it. The crack bounced up and down, until finally the piece of shell popped out and slid. Something dark colored poked out of the small hole and shoved. The hole got bigger and more of the egg shell pieces littered the floor. Then, with a great big kick, a second hole appeared. A tiny Meiko struggled out of it and plopped out of the egg, landing on his Mother’s tail.
”Girl or boy?” Father boomed, eager to know the gender of his new child.
Mother picked the youngling up and examined it before declaring, “Boy.”
”Oh my gosh, congratulations!” Vissi shrilled at my parents, “May I help care for him?”
”Yes, Vissi,” Mother laughed at her eagerness, “And we already planned out the name if he was a boy.”
Father shuffled his feet and stared in awe at the small Meiko, “Bondim, his name is Bondim!”
”He reminded me of a young child at Christmas,” I whispered to Vissi, “Hopefully Bondim won’t be a big pain.”
Vissi had this dreamy ex
pression in her eyes, “Helping care for Bonnie will be like training to be a mother!”
I looked at her, “Bondim is a dude.”
”That doesn’t mean he can’t have the nickname Bonnie!”
”Bonnie is a girl name, Si.”
”Fine, how about Bon-Bon?”
”Whatever you want, Si…”
