-flails- I rushed this because I wanted to be finished with this story. The ending is kind of short, but I might make a sequel. :/ Anyways, enjoy the final chapter of Fire Heart. Chapter 11- Vissi That feeling something good was going to happen was to be confirmed a few days later. I sat in a corner of Reeses’ yard chewing on some jerky she had bought. There was a light tearing sound as I ripped a piece from the large stick. The flavor was quite enjoyable, but some of the other Creatu called it disgusting. I was the one eating it- not them. I continued to bask in my jerky Heaven until I heard Vissi’s voice. ”Hey,” Vissi greeted, sitting next to me, “Obsessively munching on your jerky again?” Smiling, I nodded and went back to gnawing at it. ”Will you put it down for a minute? Can’t we have a normal conversation without something in your mouth to bite on?” She complained as I chewed loudly. Rolling my eyes, I removed them from my teeth and looked at her, “I wasn’t chewing on anything when we spoke when Bondim was born.” ”I needed a sentence to say to complain about you eating jerky.” I offered her a piece of jerky, “Eat it and you shall understand it’s goodness.” Vissi rolled her eyes playfully but plucked the piece of jerky from my claws, “Fine.” “So what brings you here from cooing in baby talk to baby Bondim?” I asked casually. She was chewing on the jerky. ”AHAHA!” I screamed, making her jump. Jumping up with the jerky hanging her mouth, she let out a startled scream. “WHAT HAPPENED?!” ”You do like jerky.” Vissi gave me a twitchy look, “Yes…I do admit it tastes better than it looks.” ”HAHA YOU ADMIT TO THE GOODNESS OF JERKY!” ”I wasn’t here to talk about the goodness of a preserved stick of meat, Dev,” She said, now serious. I stopped immediately, turning all my attention from the jerky to her, “Huh?” Vissi had this look on her face that explained she was about to say something very important and long. She looked really nervous, but as she spoke in a voice that was slightly shaky, I understood every word; “Dev, I remember when I first met you. You were angry, mad, and hating almost everything in your path. You didn’t know how to forgive, or to love, and I doubted you could understand the joy of being under an owner’s care.” Where was this going to? ”At first, I wanted to be your friend- well, I thought I was drawn to you- because I wanted to help you. It pained me to see someone who was so lost in a world of darkness like you were. You felt betrayed by everyone, and you were so…alone. It was such a sad sight, Dev. I can’t explain how heartbreaking you looked lying in the bush after Sonikun dropped you. You looked…suicidal.” I winced at the memory. She continued, “But I realized that I wasn’t drawn to you because I was sympathetic, Deviled. I didn’t know it then- I was quite clueless and naïve. Before I say anything else, promise me that I will be your friend no matter what happens?” Vissi looked at me with a worried and nervous ex pression in her eyes. Slightly tense, I nodded, “You’ll always be my friend, Vissi.” The other Meiko relaxed slightly, but the nervous look didn’t go away, “Deviled…” I stared at her. ”I love you.” Those three words hovered in the air between us longer than I could ever guess. It was like they echoed across a canyon and bounced into my ears, repeating the words she had said. So I had chickened out and Vissi- innocent Vissi- took it upon herself to say it. The words that I had wanted to tell her but I was too freaking scared. I already knew what to say- that part was easy. The tenseness in the air dissolved as I replied to her, “I love you too.” She smiled a smile brimming with joy and relief, “You are a brilliant Meiko, Deviled.” Let’s just say that day started my better days. And perhaps, just perhaps, I would write down what happened in the years that followed. This was the story of my Fire Heart. ~The End~
