-Chapter One-
The Escape
The smell of smoke, gunpowder, and blood filled my nose. All I could hear was the beating of my hooves on the firm forest floor. All I could think about was getting out of there. I felt a sharp pain in my leg, but I refused to give up.
I'm only 13, but I'm one heck of a runner. I approached a cliff. It was about a fifteen yard jump to the other side. At the bottom of a cliff was a large river. There was no way I could jump 15 yards to the other side, leaving me with one option: jump into the river and hope I come out alive.
I heard gunshots behind me and felt another bullet hit me. My adrenaline level was so high, I barely felt it. I sprinted towards the cliff and jumped. For about ten seconds, I fell. When I crashed into the water, my whole world went colorless, black.
