Example No. 1
The Hunger
"Once, way back into the time when man had begun to grow food in the fields, a man, a farmer's son to be exact, was cutting rye in his father's field with a scythe.
His father stepped out of the stable and reminded him again that it was time he found a wife.
The young man smiled, for his new young love would surely say yes to him.
He dropped his scythe and and jumped apon his horse and cantered into town, where the maiden lived.
But on his arrival, he found he found his lover with a ring on her finger and a man at her side.
When she saw his face, she just laughed.
'I thought you knew! I met James,'- she gestured up to the man's face, who seemed to find the whole thing just as amusing, 'I met him while you and me were together. You even saw us! But you didn't say anything, so I figured I'd keep up the act 'till you admitted you knew.'
The ex
pression on his face said it all. He had known of none of this.
James laughed, almost snorting, 'I guess love really does make you blind!'
And they walked away, the happy couple.
The man fell to the ground. His dreams had been crushed in a minute flat.
He stumbled to the bar, to try to drown his sorrows.
That night, something was said to have grown inside him. The hate, anger and felling of betrayal came from the dark corner of his mind and took him over.
He left the bar and stumbled home. In a drunken stupour, he took his horse into the field and stood and cried his saddness away, until only anger remained.
Once the last tear was gone, the clock struck midnight, and Death appeared.
In a rasping, trembling voice Death made a bargain with him.
