Chapter 1: The Awakening
To wake up to the smell of fresh morning dew and to catch the sight of your breath on the chilly air, to the sounds of birdsong in the morning refreshes your mind, body, and spirit is exhilarating. But it doesn’t work that way for me, For I am wolf and waking to another day simply means that you’ve survived one more day, time constantly eating your life span until there is none left and your time to recede to the stars comes to end this feeling abruptly. I stand up groggily and stretched my Stiff muscles until they were flexible enough to move through dense forest. My amber eyes scanned the land wondering where my Mate Feuilles had wondered off to.
I tilted my muzzle up towards the awakening sun and let out a howl. My message carried on the winter breeze along with some fallen leaves, my message rung until my anticipated response rang back to me. The message whispered “do not worry my love; I'm looking for a new site, to create a pack in. Hopefully I'll be right back” My edgy emotion returned to a tranquil sensation in my chest, but my heart still kept a sad beat.
I decided to take a little saunter down towards the lake to see if I could manage to get a swig before the immaculate water freezes over. With my head held high, tongue lolling out of my mouth as my feet carried me to the vast lake; My legs slow to a halt as I stand there looking out at the solid lake, I let out a sigh “I wanted to avoid this ... But Im rapidly dehydrating ... snow is on its way, im sure ... I hope the Feuilles is here by then” I walked over to the frozen lake and started chipping away at the ice. Piece by piece my paws hew the ice away until I’ve made a large enough hole to stick my muzzle in and smother my thirst. “Ah, much better” I sighed to my self and turned around and began my trek back to my sleeping spot when a howl erupted and carried through the wind to me saying “Love! I found an ideal campsite to start a pack in! Follow my scent trail. Hurry my love, for there is a snowstorm on its way to you!” I was appreciative of his power to detect oncoming storms and my nose picked up his scent. And I started my trek to him.
My heart drumming in tune with my paws; suddenly the forest seemed to sing in unison with my paws; Birds and crickets chirp to the beat, leaves crunch under foot, the breeze howls around me, I exhale every time my paws hit the ground. ‘Thump thump, thump thump.’ My heart whispered in my ears, a story, and it was my story; a story of love and hatred; an anecdote of secrets and accusation. I listened to it over and over again, a never ending pulsating sound. Mental images flowed through my mind while listening to the chronicle of my past. I continued running as fast as I can, pushing the mental images farther back into my mind, burying them in my daunting secrets.
A snowflake landed on the tip of my soot black nose; The shock of the cold flake landing on my nose awoke my senses and snapped me back to reality; I realized it was starting to snow, and my legs began to ache. But Feuilles’s scent was stronger and he let out another howl saying “Hurry not much time until you're lost in the blizzard probably permanently; push your limits, my love, and be careful!” I did what he said and pushed the Aching feeling aside and focused on reaching him in time. His scent grew stronger and more alluring each time I strode ahead, until his scent took me into a fury and I let out an uneasy howl “I can smell your scent is strong here is this the border? "His respond was loud enough to make my ears ring “I can see you. Stay there” So I sat down and looked around for him. I saw a silhouette of a muscular wolf swaggering over and I whimpered out of delight when his face became clear, But my eyes looked right through him as if he weren’t there as to not anger him, he did the same as well. He reached me and urged me forward excitedly and I followed him to the den site.
The wind around us became suddenly bitter; the sky above us gradually became pitch black with clouds filled with a potential blizzard. Wind whipped our faces as we ran; the storm grew stronger, louder, and colder as the minutes ticked away. A shout from Feuilles, telling me that we need to hurry, this storm is tedious. We both ran as rapid as our legs could carry us, and soon we reached the den site. Feuilles forced me into the cave first and he walked in second. The cave was quite confined with two mature wolves lying next to each other. I yawned and whispered “How long do you think this storm will last, Feuilles” Feuilles shrugged and spoke with a hint of fear ringing through his voice “I do not know, maybe a few hours or more, depending on the magnitude of this storm.” I nodded and sighed, “Thank you for finding this site den, my love, we can finally start a pack now; At least when that time comes.”Feuilles laughed silently to himself “No problem, my love, no problem.” And soon we both fell asleep.
The next morning, the wind was serene, and the air was nothing but a crisp winter breeze. Winter birds were playing what seemed like catch; dodging through trees, trying to capture one another, the one who was caught is “It”. A game a younger wolf often partakes in. I looked over at Feuilles and he was still asleep. I somewhat stood up and walked out of the den. I gasped when I saw the beautiful camp site. A now frozen pond lied near the trees’ that border our camp. The snow shimmered like unspoiled waters, which made the place look even more gorgeous and genuine. I turned around to see Feuilles standing next to me, smiling. I turned back to gander at the beautiful camp site “Feuilles, this place is beautiful, it does not seem true!” Feuilles stretched and spoke “That's why I've chosen, my love” I looked right through him “want to go hunt Feuilles?” he nodded and our noses quickly singled out the enticing scent of an elk, our mouths salivated at the odor. We trotted through snow, not leaving before re marking our border. As soon as Feuilles was finished re marking the border, we set off again to find that elk. Suddenly, I fell to the ground, my body convulsing, and my eyes glowed vivid amber. I saw the future’s demoralizing images ran through my mind projecting into my eyes. Once those visions departed, my body stopped convulsing, my eyes returned to their usual amber colour. Feuilles was looking in my direction, mortified by what happened. “My love, you okay? Are you ill?” Feuilles spoke with a greater trace of fear ringing through the words. “No I am not ill. I just saw the future”
Chapter 2: The Future
The future… Smokey skies, Bloodied ground, Buildings smashed into pieces. Bodies of humans and wolves lie motionless on the bloody ground. There lies Automne’s pack. Feuilles, Automne, Jasper, Mitch, and sparrow lie dead in a burned forest. Trees’ now are a charcoal black instead of brown with lush green leaves. Smoke billows from the forest polluting the skies. Large Wolves stalk the grounds checking for survivors. A large male sniffed Automne’s body. “Too bad she didn’t decide to join the Couler le sang like we offered. Oh well, her loss. My gain, one less organism to kill” The tall figure chuckled.
“Blood, we have a survivor!” yelled a smaller crimson male wolf, clearly the omega of the pack. “What is it?” he called back turning from the lifeless body of Automne and heading toward the omega. “It’s a pup, sir” the omega squeaked. “Then kill the pup. It’s not ours” blood said as he came over, “its Automne’s only pup, sir” the pup bared a copper pelt with amber eyes, like his fallen mother, Automne. The small pup squeaked, “mother… is that you?”“No, it’s your father” Blood chuckled grimly, “your mother had to recede to the stars’, it was her time” The pup went wide eyed. “No… please no” the pup’s eyes looked directly into blood’s angering him. Blood took the pup and threw him into a tree. “Didn’t your mother teach you not to look directly at a wolf?” Blood snarled, making the small pup quake in terror. “No…I didn’t know my mother very long” The pup looked at his bloody paws, “what is your name?” blood demanded. “Sauveur…sir” The pup choked out. Blood spat upon him “not anymore, your name is now Meurtrier" And Meurtrier nodded in fear of being beaten. Or worse, he could be killed. "Sir-" "You can call me Blood"
“Sir Blood… may I feed my famished stomach?” Meurtrier spoke softly and looked through blood. “Yes. But you must feed upon your mother’s body” Meurtrier went wide eyed and pain was exceedingly visible in the lost amber eyes.
Meurtrier ran as fast as he could to get away from this monster, telling himself that he is just having a mind scare. He didn’t accept the fact that it was reality, which he was without parents. He was the suspected last of his kind, alone in this destroyed world that was once peaceful. His past life crumbled around him and revealed this wasted paradise of ash and bone. Blood watched him run not feeling the urge to give chase. He will choke on the fumes of smoke in a few days while they are at their new den site, where it is lush and has plenty of food to devour.
Automne’s lungs filled with air and ash as her body convulsed back to life, she peered around at the dead earth. She had gone through a series of dimensions trying to undo what they’ve caused. No progress, she needed another being that bared the same ability to travel through the dimensions of the universe. “Sauveur” A voice in her aching mind called out to her “find him quickly”. Her nose worked through the smells of smoke, rotting body fluids, and decaying bodies. But she picked up his scent, and followed his scent. Suddenly blood appeared in front of her. “My love, I thought you were dead?” he spoke quietly “No, you knocked me out, but you didn’t kill me” Blood spill licked her cheek “If you’re looking for your son, he ran off” Automne called her son “Sauveur! Come back!” Sauveur stopped dead in his tracks and followed his mothers howl, hoping it would bring him back to reality. He saw her silhouette, but there was another large silhouette next to her. Blood… Sauveur slowed a bit and made for certain that it was his mother. Automne ran towards him, affection tainted eyes. “Sauveur, you must join the couler le sang with me. They are our only hope of living” Sauveur nodded reluctantly and let his mother gently pick him up off the lost earth, his paws burned tremendously. They traveled with the Couler le sang pack until they reached an area where it was lush for miles and miles. And there was a small abandoned den. “That’s your den. There is a pond nearby, so you might want to wash out those wounds” blood said before jogging off to his den.
Automne was abhorrent to take shelter with the ones she despised the most, but what was she to do, the ones she had once held dear now lie amongst the charred earth and bloodied and decaying bodies. Automne had only one survivor from her pack, she adored the most, it was her first born son Sauveur. Oh how she loved him. She loved how he looked just like her; she loved his spunky and optimistic personality. “Mom… my paws burn horrendously” Sauveur whined pathetically. “We are on our way to the pond Blood informed us about” Automne spoke gingerly, but her words where slightly muffled by Sauveur’s fur as she carried him.
The pond, At last they had reached the pond. It was small, shallow, with Lilly pads and little tadpoles thriving in it. The water was clear, so Automne put Sauveur into the water tentatively and had him wash out the burns. The sound of gr*censored* crunching made Automne’s hackles rise on end. “I am Juniper; I heard Meurtrier needed medicine to help heal those burns.” A voice called to them.“His name is Sauveur, not Meurtrier” Automne growled irately.“Sorry…That’s what Blood said it was I am dreadfully so...” Juniper was cut off,“It is okay; By the way my name is Automne.” Automne spoke warily and turned away from her son to view Juniper, Automne’s gaze swept through Juniper. “Are you two survivors?” Juniper asked vigilantly.“Yes, yes we are, are you a born member of the Couler le sang pack?” Automne said with a questionable voice.“Yes, actually I am” Juniper sat next to Automne and whispered “But I don’t like this pack. I am a lover, not a bloodthirsty killer; the name Juniper isn’t really my name.” Juniper spoke frightfully. “What is your real name” Automne examined juniper, admiring her pure white coat and immaculate blue eyes.“My mother named me Etcetera at first until Blood became pack leader when my father died, then he renamed everyone.” “So I see” Automne felt inconsequential to this striking blue-eyed white wolf. Sure Automne had beautiful amber fur and amber eyes; nothing could purely compute with this mutant.
“Do you want me to address Sauveur’s wounds?” Etcetera questioned.“That would be awfully kind; I have not experienced burns like those of Sauveur’s.”With that Etcetera walked leisurely over to Sauveur and sat down next to him, towering over this young pup. “Don’t be alarmed Sauveur, I am just going to apply some herbal medicine to those burns.” Etcetera spoke serenely and humanely. Sauveur nodded and stepped out of the water and sat down and gave her his front paws.Etcetera started applying some Blackberry juice to stop oozing to both paws. Then she applied some Calendula, which is an antiseptic & anti-inflammatory which is applied topically to speed healing and avert infection. Etcetera used the same herbs on the hind paws. “How does that feel Sauveur?” Etcetera asked soothingly.“A lot better…erm” “Etcetera, but in front of blood call me Juniper” She smiled“A lot better Etcetera” Sauveur smiled back at her, hypnotized by her eyes.
