The night wind blew eerily in the night and Jess flopped over to the other side of her bed, she woke up and her heart sank as she remembered that it been a year since her husband Mickey had been kidnapped.
"Mommy, is daddy home yet?" She looked over at her door and a little girl with brown hair and brown eyes like hers walked in.
"No Sophie. He hasn’t been found yet.” She sighed and felt her heart breaking as she saw tears roll down her little girl's face as she climbed into the bed with her.
"Mummy what happened to him, where is he?" Sophie asked as Jess held her close.
Jess sighed as she remembered the night when Mickey was kidnapped:
Mickey grinned as he kissed Jess, it was midnight and he turned off the lights when suddenly there was a huge smashing sound. Jess screamed as Mickey was pulled from her arms and she rushed outside, after checking Sophie, who was 4 years old then, was safe but when she got outside she was too late to save Mickey.
Sun Hill had searched for a year, but they soon gave up the search, despite how much Jess pleaded with Jack to continue the search.
Flashback ended
"I don't know Sophie, I don't know." Jess said, not wanting her little girl knowing the truth, the scary truth.
Suddenly her mobile rang playing the song "How far I'll fly" and Jess looked up in surprise, she placed Sophie down and reached over to her phone.
"Mickey...." She said slowly and very unsure. She said his name because she had programmed her phone to play "How far I'll fly." from the Disney movie, Napoleon whenever he rang.
"Jess, I need.....need you come to the Larkmead train station, I need....need you to pick me up." came Mickey's frightened voice.
"I'll be there right away, you will recognize me by my pajamas and I will have Sophie with me." She said grabbing Sophie and went to her black Holden Ute.
"Mummy was that daddy?" Sophie asked sleepily as Jess put her into her car seat.
"Yes it was darling, we are going to go and pick him up from the train station." Jess smiled to her as she fell asleep.
The car trip seemed to take ages to the train station but when she got there and Mickey run to the car and got in, it seemed worth it to have him kissing her and she felt like she was back where she belonged.
Soon they were back home and Mickey went and picked up Sophie, Jess smiled as he placed her back to bed but frowned when she saw how injured he was, guilt override her joy.
She sank to their bed, with tears in her eyes when Mickey walked in and he frowned as he pulled her to his arms.
“Hey, darling I’m back what is wrong?” Mickey asked as she buried her face into his shoulder.
“I didn’t try hard enough to get the others to keep searching for you. If I had you would have been found sooner.” She cried, the scent of her tears surrounding the room.
“Come on, let’s go to the station and let everyone know I’m alive, and then maybe you, me and Sophie can get some Maccas.” Mickey said as he hugged Jess who nodded.
He smiled picking up Sophie who cooed happily at the sound of Maccas as he took Jess’ hand and then drove them to Sun Hill Station.
Jess drove towards the station when suddenly she saw a white truck heading towards them. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw it wasn't going to stop, she looked at Mickey who was staring at it in fear when there was a huge smashing noise.
Suddenly their Holden Ute was thrown off the road then everything went black as they hit a tree.
She woke up and screamed as she looked around the hospital bed she was in,
“Where’s my husband and daughter!” She cried out when Smithy walked in with Sophie whom was amazingly unharmed.
“Daddy doesn’t remember me!” Sophie burst into tears and Jess felt her stomach turned as Max frowned.
“He doesn’t remember anyone, I’m sorry Jess.” Smithy said as Jess held Sophie close, she had lost her husband again.
“Smithy, its not...its not fair!” Jess said trying not to cry but Smithy sat down and pulled her into his arms. Jess handed Sophie to Nate and told her as calmly as she could that she needed some time with Smithy.
Sophie nodded as she looked up to Nate and wrapped her arms around him as he took her to the canteen for some Maccas. Jess sank into Smithy's embrace, losing the battle in front of her Sergeant, tears flow down her face as she turned and buried her face into his shoulder.
"Its not fair....I just got him back, I just got him back." Jess sobbed as she held onto Smithy's shirt.
Later that night, everyone had gone home and Sophie was staying with Smithy whom Jess decided was the safest person for her to stay with.
Jess sighed with tears in her eyes when a nurse came in and said "Jess, an Mickey Webb is asking for you" and Jess looked up at her.
"His asking for me?" Jess asked surprised when she saw Jack walked in who nodded.
"Jess, I can't calm him down enough for the nurse to take a look at the injuries Delaney caused." Jack said and Jess jumped out of the bed, but fell down to the ground.
Jack helped her up and Jess run to Mickey's hospital room, she stopped to see him crying and pushing every nurse away. She pushed through the nurses and pulled him to her, as soon she did his crying stopped and he sank into her embrace.
"I'm scared, I'm really scared." He whispered as he held onto her and Jess rocked him.
"You are safe....." She said softly and he looked up into her eyes, he got off her and then pulled her onto his lap.
"You can cry if you want to." He whispered to her and Jess shook her head as she fought off the tears.
“I can’t....I got to be strong for you.” Jess said but Mickey held her closer, placing her head on his shoulder.
“You are strong even when you cry.” Mickey murmured to her and Jess closed her eyes as tears flow down her cheeks.
"I can't bare to lose you again..." She sighed into his shoulder and he smiled as he hugged her.
"You won't lose me again and that is a promise, lets get out here, I been told I can get discharge and Jack is signing both of our discharge forms." Mickey purred to her and Jess smiled nodding when Smithy walked in with Sophie.
"Dada, Mama." Sophie yawned and Mickey picked her up from Smithy's arms. He drove her and Jess home.
He placed her into her cot and sang her to sleep before he took Jess up to their bedroom and laid down with her, cuddling her close rocking her a little until she fall asleep.
"You won't lose me again, my angel." He muttered to her as he fall asleep himself.
