A chocolate-skinned beauty. A fair angel of mercy. Beautiful. Beautiful. Eyes like the violets of the warm summer months. Gentle, warm hands, unhurtful. Beautiful. Beautiful. Exotic. Puzzling. Beautiful. Beautiful. Chapter One She came, amazing and mystifying. But also unwanted, a trespas.ser. As much as I’d like to think otherwise, she hadn’t been welcome to out lands. The Javeryn had brought her in, sedated with one of their poisoned arrows that made their tribe so famous. Her silken black hair had shaded her face, her sepia skin a burnished brown in the dim light. The Javeryn had crudely handed her over to the finer palace guards, their gruff tones muffled and quiet. I had come down just about that time, summoned by my father. The man in question was pacing a few feet away from the guards, muttering darkly under his breath. I went over and touched his shoulder lightly. “What is it that you have summoned me for, Father?” The man’s ex pression darkened slightly. “We have been informed of an intruder, Lei. It is high time you learn how to deal with such things.” I glanced casually over at the limp body that was trapped within four guards’ tight grip. I was taken aback by her beauty, and couldn’t do anything but dumbly stare for a few moments. Luckily, my father quickly intervened. “Come, guards. We shall take her to the examination room.” Which was basically a nicer way of saying that they were off to torture her. I followed behind them all, not exactly excited to finally learn what went on in that sealed-off door just off the west wing corridor. But my duty as future king to my kingdom called that I must learn the ways of ruling with grace and order, and part of that meant becoming accustomed to dealing with threats to the nation in a timely and diplomatic order. Or lack thereof, as I though. We filed into a small, dark room. I wondered grimly how many lives had been lost in this complete, filling darkness. A light pierced the dank black of the room as my father lit a lantern. The guards heaved our captive onto the examination table, a small, sturdy table with metal chains to restrict our prisoners. Her body hit the oak with a dull thud, but enough of one to make me cringe. Two of the guards hastily got to work attaching and locking the shackles onto her wrists, ankles, upper arms, and legs. I got a better to chance to examine her face then. Her skin was smooth and chocolate in color, with her long ebony hair falling in gentle waves down her back. She was tall and lean, with a tough build and muscled limbs. But I’d be dead if I didn’t know who she was—a Raeno. Her nation bordered ours, but we were far from friendly with each other. In fact, we were on the brink of a war with them. The guards finished securing her just in time. She moaned softly, her eyelids fluttering for a moment before they fully opened. I stumbled back, startled. Her eyes were the most striking shade of violet to be seen on this earth. And those eyes now narrowed with anger, maybe even hatred. My father sucked in a breath. “Del La Rose.” He hissed. I knew the name at once, but couldn’t make a connection to what it had to do with the situation. The Del La Roses were the family currently in the throne in Raeno. And then, it dawned on me. “She’s a Del La Rose?” I asked, unable to hide the incredulousness in my tone. My father nodded sharply, and opened his mouth to speak, when he was cut off by a voice. It was soft, almost weak, but grew stronger. “Eve. Eve Del La Rose.” I turned to face her, startled by that fact she had spoken. I made the mistake of looking into her eyes. Suddenly, I was falling, falling… Swimming in those endless purple depths. A hard hand on my shoulder jolted me from my daze. I turned to look up at my father, whose ex pression was unreadable. One of the guards mumbled something in the background. My father looked to him, and then nodded. “Yes, I believe you are right, Kuurak. I don’t think Lei is ready for this much, either. Lei, you will have to see this at a different time. You are dismissed.” I stared at him blankly, then mumbled glumly, “Yes, Father.” As I turned to leave the room, I heard a thump and a female grunt of pain. I hurried the rest of the way out of the door, slamming it behind me, not daring to look back. What do you think? :3 I had a lot of fun with this, and am planning on writing more. Comments and constructive Critisiscm are always welcome.

Heres chapter two. :o Hope you like it! It's unedited, though, so please pardon any errors. If I sopt any myself, I'll fix them. ^^ Chapter Two The pain. Eve moaned softly, attempting to roll over, only to find herself chained to something. It was hard and uncomfortable, and it smelled of oak and varnish. Where am I? She wondered, until the memories came flooding back. Oh, that’s right. I’m being held prisoner in a castle. Eve wondered how things could have gone so wrong. Her mission had been simple enough. Enter the kingdom of Nyko, see if they were planning a war against Raeno, and come back. If possible, a.ss.a.ssinate the king to throw the country into turmoil, the perfect time to begin the war that had been brewing for generations. Until of course, things took a nosedive. First, she had been caught by the Javeryn when she had been so carelessly trekking through their forest. The Javeryn were on of the three native tribes to Nyko, and the most brutal. They had shot her down with their famous poisoned arrow, but had luckily chose one not strong enough to kill her. Perhaps they had been eager to show her to the king. Then, she had been brought here. At first, she had thought that they would have just stuck her in one of the prisons. That would have been perfect, giving Eve time to recover before attacking again. But instead, they had brought her straight to the examination room. She remembered seeing a boy about her age, with golden-brown hair look at her when she had first awoken. Eve had foolishly wondered if this boy had been a guardian angel. But, he quickly left and she had to return to reality. Then, the beatings began. They had punched, hit, and kicked her, trying to get answers out of her. If not for all of the training she had undergone, Eve would have broken and told them. When she became once again unconscious (whether it was from lack of food or from the constant torture, she didn’t know), they had ceased the blows, realizing they wouldn’t be getting any answers. Now, even as Eve was replaying the events in her mind, she was formulating a plan. It would require flawless acting skills and good bit of imagination, but she couldn’t fail now. Not unless she wanted to fail her country, her family, and herself. Careful to give the appearance of one just woken up, she slowly opened here eyes and blinked slowly, as if groggily. She tried to stretch, but remembered the chains. The guards left to watch her turned from their game of cards. One, obviously the leader, spoke quietly to another guard, who hurried out. A few minutes later, the king entered. He narrowed his eyes angrily, but only said, “Good. She is awake.” He raised his hand to strike at her, but Eve said quickly, “Wait. I am ready to speak.” The king’s blow stopped in midair, his shock showing through his eyes. He quickly slipped back into his diplomatic mask, however, and said coolly, “Okay, then. Begin.” Eve took a deep breath and began, the words flowing effortlessly off of her tongue. “I am of the Del La Rose family, yes. But since you know that I am Eve, you will also know that I will not ever be able to take over the throne. I have been trying for many years to find my place in the palace, but I have not found one. Only a few days ago, my family banished me from our kingdom, saying that I was only a danger to the family. I simply fled, ignoring the boundaries because of the guards and warriors that chased me. I found myself in the Javeryn’s forest, and was taken hostage by them.” Eve paused for a moment, for effect. “Please, if you will, milord, forgive me. I had never meant to harm you or your country, or even be here. I hope that you will spare my live.” The king seemed to consider this for a moment. Eve bit her lip nervously, but finally, the king seemed to take the story for truth. “Very well, Del La Rose. Because your line is known for your honesty, I shall release. However, I cannot let you return to your home country. You shall be given a private suite in the palace, and shall make your home there. I will get the royal tailor to begin on some gowns for you.” Eve bit back a harsh laugh. What a fool. But his decision was buying her freedom—and a chance to kill him—so she kept quiet, except for a quiet, “Yes, milord. Thank you, milord.” The king nodded and exited, but motioned for two of the guards to stay and free her. They each set to work on with side of her, caging her in. When she was free, she leapt up off of the table she had been chained to, and rubbed her wrists unceremoniously. Then, she headed for the door and pushed it open. A dim hallway met her. She blinked a few times for her eyes to adjust, then continued down it. Eve found herself in a large, foyer-like room that was obviously the entrance to the palace. A grand staircase on either side of a large fountain climbed up what looked to be many stories above her. The light the frosty gl*censored* windows on either side of the door let in was the only thing that illuminated the room. Awed by her surroundings, Eve almost didn’t notice the boy from earlier that day, in the examination room. The prince, probably. He was leaning against the right side of the circular room, close to where Eve has come out from the corridor. He was looking at her, his brown eyes partially concealed by his golden hair. Eve let out a startled gasp as she spotted him, mentally berating herself for letting her guard down. The boy immediately leapt into action. Relinquishing his lean on the wall, he walked closer and held out his hand in a formal greeting. “I’m sorry to scare you. I didn’t know you would be coming out so early.” His gaze was a little bit suspicious, but he didn’t question her. “I’m Lei, by the way.” Eve shook his hand and dipped her head in greeting. So he was the prince. “I’m Eve.” Lei laughed. “I know,” he said. Eve smiled politely, but thanked the heavens when one of the guards from the examination room came out from the hallway. “Come, Miss Del La Rose, I’ll show you to your suite.” Eve nodded a farewell to the prince, and then hurried after the guard.

xD The moment I saw the word as-sas-sination (well, without the censors), I burst out laughing. My friend, who was obsessed with As-sas-sin's Creed, is convinced she's an actual as-sas-sin. Lol. Another good chapter. I wonder why he got lost in her eyes?

Chapter Three Wow. I watched her run hurriedly up the left side of the grand staircase—which I noted, a bit sadly, was the farthest from me. She—Eve, I amended, was amazing. Her soft lilac eyes and auburn skin had left me in a daze. If only she hadn’t seemed to eager to get away from me—scared, even. Did she have something to hide? I surely hoped not. Making my way up to my rooms on the third floor, I heard hushed voices, one of which was Eve’s exotic Raeno tones. The other, I noted, I Kuurak’s. He was complimenting her on something I strained to hear. Why I bristled at the thought of her being admired by someone else, I didn’t know. Or at least didn’t have the right to. I hurried the rest of the way up to my rooms, opening the door and closing it, applying the lock so that I would not be disturbed. I collapsed on my bed, closing my eyes and breathing in and out. What I needed was to get my mind off of the day’s turn of events. Luckily, my distraction came quickly. A soft knock on my door roused me from my thoughts, as well as a quiet voice. “Prince Lei?” I recognized Lela’s, my personal maid, voice. “Yes Lela?” “You father requests your presence in the grand entrance room.” I groaned softly, not wanting to have to have to deal with more dictator training, but pushed myself off of the bed anyways. “Coming,” I called, and heard retreating footsteps down the lush carpet that lined the hallway. I hurried down to the entrance hall, greeting my father with a smile. “Lei, good, you are here! Some merchants have arrived for the international festival next week, and it is our duty to go meet them. We can purchase some goods while we are there.” I nodded in agreement, and we left. Lela came to deal with the monetary transactions and to carry the goods we were to buy. As we made out way to the market, I was overly aware of all of the commotion and attention that followed us. Some whispered in scorn about us, but others fawned around us, trying to get in our good graces to receive things. Other just watched from a distance, unemotional. My favorites were those who admired from afar. They cared about us, but didn’t expect anything from us, and didn’t try to get anything from us. Appreciative, but not greedy. I wanted to salute them, but opted not to. As we arrived at the market, the people began to fade away, drawn in by the exotic riches that were being sold here. At the first booth, there was a beautiful, fair-skinned woman. She had blonde hair and icy blue eyes—a Naka. They were allies of our country, thankfully. I examined some of the goods, but wasn’t truly interested in any. Lela bought a loaf of seasoned bread to show support of the royal family. I gave her a smile and thanked her for coming, as was required, then moved on. The rest of the market went on a lot like the first booth. I came away with too many trinkets to count, some rich red satin from a land that escaped my memory, and some new garments. My favorite were some pants made from a deep blue fabric called demin…. Or something like that. “I love these!” I told Lela, beaming. She smiled and nodded. “I’m glad you like them, Prince. Denim is an amazing fabric. Very strong.” I nodded approvingly, but said nothing else. When we got home, I hurriedly slipped the pants on and went to go find Kuri, my favorite palace dog. It's kinda short, but I'm having a little spurt of writer's block. o3o

Chapter Four Eve tried not to fidget as she was fitted for a new gown. She couldn’t help but wonder bitterly why the ladies of the court in Nyko had to wear such formal attire. The gown she was currently being fitted for was simple but elegant—overly so. It seemed more designed for a ball, not a spy sent from another kingdom to *censored**censored*inate their king. The tailor backed away and dipped her head respectfully. “Milady, I am finished. If you will please undress, I will send this gown to the seamstress and get your wear made right away.” Eve nodded and watched as the tailor exited the room. She hurriedly slipped out of the silky dress and pulled on a less extravagant one borrowed from one of the maids. A soft knock was rapped on the door a few minutes later. “Milady?” “Come in,” Eve called, gathering up the dress and handing it over to the tailor gingerly. The woman smiled and nodded again, and then slipped out of the room. Eve sighed and eased herself onto the huge bed. The smooth, warm blankets whispered under her weight, a calming sound in the midst of all that had happened today. After a few moments of restful relaxation, Eve got up and decided it was wisest to go explore the palace and its grounds. A spy who knew her way around had a better chance of escape—or even survival—than a one that was clueless to her surroundings. She unhurriedly opened her door and looked around. Eve deemed that it was safe, and cautiously walked out of her suite. The hallway was empty, leaving a clear path to the grand staircase that apparently went up to every floor in the palace—and there were many different floors. No wonder it was the “grand” staircase. Eve made her way down the elegant marble steps, careful not to slip on the slick material. Her eyes took in every small detail, knowing that she might need anything she knew to help her survive this mission. When she reached the entrance hall, Eve wondered what to do next. Should she go outside and plan escape routes, or get to know the many winding corridors? It was a tough decision. Eve decided it was probably wisest to know the palace interior first, but she longed to go outside. Eve wanted to slap herself when she noticed the prince, with his back turned to her, stroking a dog by the fountain. Why did she keep running in to him? Eve felt annoyance prick at her mind, but she also couldn’t help but feel a small amount of curiosity. Despite her mission, Eve wanted to know what Lei was like. What he did, where he went, what he liked… Eve stopped the thought from forming. Why should she be feeling like this? She had a mission to complete, and befriending Lei would only lead to more complications, some of which might turn out to be deadly. But Eve simply couldn’t force her frozen body to move. She watched him for a few moments, noting the strange blue clothing he was wearing, and then turned and went outside.

Chapter Five I pet Kuri adoringly, loving the way her soft mottled brown fur was so dense and soft. I didn’t hear or see anything, but suddenly the entrance room was filled with a bright, blinding sunlight. My eyes adjusted just in time to see Eve slipping out. I wondered where she was going and what she was up to, so, against my better judgment, I followed her out. The grounds of the palace were absolutely beautiful in the mid-afternoon sunlight. Summer was by far the best season to wander the grounds, with the warm, soft air caressing your cheeks and slight breezes tousling your hair. The gardens were in full bloom, not bothered by the heat. The plants here never died, thanks to our miracle-working gardeners. Eve was headed towards the east, where our fountain gardens were. I followed slightly behind, not wanting to startle or alarm her. She moved with a quiet grace that I could only dream of having. Her woolen dress rustled softly, but the rich green color of if matched the gr*censored* almost perfectly. I personally thought the color would clash with her eyes. As I walked quietly after her, I saw her stop and admire the great maple that bordered the inner most of three fences that surrounded the palace. Coincidentally, it was my favorite tree. She watched if for a moment, and then continued onward. I followed more slowly, realizing that I had picked up my pace a great deal. Why was I doing this? I felt so compelled to follow; yet I couldn’t tell why. As she reached the crest of the hill that overlooked our extensive fountain gardens, I could hear a soft gasp. It was not one of awe, though. I thought it held a trace of fear, but I couldn’t be sure from the distance. Then, a flash of muddy-colored fur gave the source of Eve’s surprise away. Kuri bound up to Eve, wagging her tail happily as her tongue lolled lazily out of her mouth. “Kuri!” I yelled, alarmed. Eve whirled around and something akin to anger crossed her features, but it disappeared behind a cool mask. I approached her cautiously and did my best to smile apologetically. “Sorry,” I mumbled, looking down at Kuri’s content face. “There is no need to apologize, my lord,” she said politely, but her voice was cold. “Lei,” I corrected, perhaps a little too quickly. “You can call me Lei.” I looked up as she nodded and curtseyed. “There’s no need for that around me,” I laughed. “Just be careful to do it around my father.” To my surprise she laughed, too. “Whatever you say…Lei.” I smiled and gestured to Kuri. “There’s no need to interrupt Kuri’s introductions on my behalf,” I said. “Please don’t mind me.” Eve nodded again and resumed running her hands along the soft fur on Kuri’s back. I left them alone, pretending that I had been heading towards the fountain gardens in the first place, and not following Eve. On my descent down the hill, I heard her laugh. It was different than the one I had been graced with a few moments before. This one had none of the carefully guarded politeness that the one she had directed at me had. This one was filled with joy, pure and sweet. I relished the sound, holding it close to my heard, wondering if I would ever be lucky enough to have that directed at me. I surely hoped so.
