Made when I was a little (which might be an understatement) down in the dumps. Haven't written a poem for two years now so trying free-verse was odd. Trying such a dark subject was odd too xD
The Sound of Sadness
I have heard the sound of Sadness
It is a fearful cry.
Not hideous or fierce like the shrieks of children
Or weak like the selfish whimpers.
It chills the blood, horrific and melancholy.
Strangled and smothered in pain.
I have seen Sadness in her glory
Pale and frail
I have seen her eyes.
Burned by Despair's cold, sharp rain.
But still dry.
Empty.
Enclosed in a tomb.
Reason remains speechless
Comfort's whispers reaches dead ears
And Love stays at a distance.
Unable to touch her.
Too frightened to touch her.
While Fear and Despair embrace her
And protects her from the world.
