Prologue

'I'm willing to do anything in my power to save my planet.' I hissed menacingly.
'Really?' The cold voice of Anthepia drawled, clearly surprised at my statement.
'Of course! My family are there, but that doesn't mean anything to you, you peice of scum!' I tugged at the ropes binding my feet together, but flailed hopelessly after a few seconds.
'Enough, do you want to me to get out a member of Guard, again?' Anthepia snarled in the darkness, and I could hear movement.
'Bring it on. Don't look at me like that. I told you, it won't stop me!' I replied calmly. 'You're surprised, aren't you? I bet you would never be strong enough to go through all this to save your planet. You'd hide behind people. I feel sickened at the mere thought of you!' I hissed and spat at her.
'Really now, play fair, you don't want your loud mouth to make you pay later, do you? What, with you being useless without your powers, you'll never be able to save your planet.' Anthepia crooned.
Then she was writhing on the floor in pain.

Chapter 1

'Come on! Wake up!' I moaned to Callum, my flat-mate.
'Uh, can I ask why your getting me up this early in the morning?' Callum croaked sleeping, keeping his moss green eyes clamped shut.
Rolling my eyes, I replied in smug tone, 'Eleven am is not early, you slug.' Grinning hopelessly, I dragged his duvet off him, ignoring his half-naked torso.
'Fine then, I'll get up. Why don't you learn how to drive? I'm not your bloody Taxi Service.' He continued to rant as he pulled on clothes fresh from the floor.
'Disgusting.' I muttered, but he ignored me, walked past me to the kitchen and grabbed a cola. After a minute, he frowned.
'Have you seen my car keys?' Callum asked.
'No way.' I groaned. 'Check the bowl you're supposed to put them in?' I added, as he wondered off into the hallway.
'Got them! I'm a genius!' He called out, and I rolled my eyes. I was the scientist here, not him. Finally we left the flat into the urban streets of New York.
I work at the huge American Museum of Natural History, where I studied the stars and planets, along with my trainee helper, John-Lewis. John-Lewis was supporting and open-minded, so could often help me figure out how to get around difficulties with ease.
