The Mind Roams Free
A blackened sun
A darkened moon
A heartless soul
A joyless tune
Wherever I go, whatever I see
This is all that comes back to me
Nothing I do will ever be right
No one is kind, but I cannot fight
How can I live in a world so unkind?
I cannot bear it, this life with mankind!
So I wish to go, rest at last in sweet peace
Is that too much to ask? I beg for release!
I suppose that it is, but who can I blame
That is just how it works in this terrible game
Night after night, I get taken away
But to this I come back, on every bleak day
A blackened sun
A darkened moon
A heartless soul
A joyless tune
I’ll wander away and so you will see
Never again any more of me
If not given peace, I’ll just disappear
To a faraway place, a land of no fear
A place with a moon, a place with a sun
With its wonderful beauty, to freedom I run
Warm light, sweet trees, and a cool ocean breeze
I’ll never go back to that living disease
A blackened sun
A darkened moon
A heartless soul
A joyless tune
I will not be stuck for even a minute more
I go now, there’s a place to explore
Some things I may miss, but most not a chance
There are so few things even worth a second glance
A bright sun
A white moon
A happy soul
A beautiful tune
This awaits me, so here I now come
Where my heart can be free and my soul is not numb
A place that is great, a place that I love
In my mind I can fly, as free as a dove.

I couldn't find any short stories, but I did find the first draft of a commission I did for Detneth.
It was early in the morning on a cloudy day in Relcore when a young kitten was born. She popped out of her mother’s belly with a yawn before starting to mew noisily. Along with her, came 3 brothers and a sister. She was by far the smallest and certainly the most peculiar. Maybe not at first, but she soon grew into that role.
Early on, none of the kittens could see. However, they still managed to be very talkative and it was less than a week after their birth that they began opening their eyes. Not even two weeks later, the first colors of their coats began shining through the dull and gray fuzz they were born with. Her brothers, Meto, Nital, and Felos as they had named themselves became a pale cream, a bright white with a few black stripes, and a deep brown. Her sister, Lira was the name she chose, became a light gray with a seemingly violet tinge that was barely noticeable. Aicra, however, was again separate.
Since Aicra was born, she was a bit apart from her siblings. She chose a rather odd name, she was very contradictory, and she was always straying from the group. One of her strange journeys caused some misfortune to her looks. She had wandered into a radioactive plant and it was figured out that was the reason for her odd appearances. While her siblings were developing into their first coats and adult features, Aicra’s eyes were becoming a bright sea blue instead of the normal brown. Legs were long and awkward. She had lime green fur, but a dark, leafy-green underbelly. But these are all nothing in comparison to the strangest part of her appearance: her head. It was the same lime green color as the rest of her and right beside her ears were antlers, black antlers with pale green swirls! Of course, none of this made any difference to her, for she had a very protective and stubborn nature that would not allow her to see anything wrong with herself.
Aicra’s nature made it hard for others to get along with her. She rarely even talked to her own family because of this! She was a loner despite the fact that she would go back home every night. And there were good days when she would spend time with her mother and siblings. Then they could run around and play and she would just be quiet for once. They’d run in the bushes, climb trees, or splash in ponds. Some days they’d even go to Scria or Atquati, but never Reiflem because it was too hot.
Late in the year, Aicra’s family always made the trip to Scria and vacationed there for a while with some relatives. This would be the third annual trip for the family and everyone was getting excited, even Aicra was a bit. Then, something set her off. First one small thing would get her cranky, then something else, and so on until soon she was in one of her moods. She refused to talk to anyone, but most of all she refused to go with them. Later on, of course, she shed a few tears, but she knew she would manage easily until they returned.
Many say that distance makes the heart grow fonder. One must ***ume this is true, because at the return of her family Aicra seemed to mellow a bit. There were more days she would spend time with them and less when she was in her melancholy shell. She still wandered off often because she was very independent, but for a little while at least, she had changed slightly.
Her fourth birthday was nearing and Aicra felt uneasy. She spent very little time with her family because as she grew more independent and protective of her nature, her siblings were branching out and her mother was tiring. She made no effort to connect with anyone because it was hard for her to be trusted or trust others. Her appearance warded everyone off. She was used to it and did not worry herself. She would not and could not change, because to her stubborn mind she was perfect and would never admit to faults. Any criticism caused her to become very protective and cautionary. Anything said caused an argument and so she remained alone.
When Aicra came back one day she noticed something out of place. Where was everyone and what was that awful smell? She gasped as her mind raced. There had to be an explanation. Maybe they’re all at a party or with friends, she thought. Then her eyes confirmed her thoughts. Vengeance. She swore to have vengeance and to give no mercy. At the loss of her family, all of her family, tears flowed. She turned and left.
A year and a half later, something came to put an end to her misery. No more would she kill every raccoon she saw and something other than hatred was able to fill her heart. She trusted and was trusted. It was Detneth. He found her, pitied her, and instantly loved her. She came into his home and felt happiness. She was considered a beauty instead of an outcast and may their happiness remain forever.
