Okay, so I was in creative writing last year, and we went on a trip to a college for a writers convention type thing. We were given a few different workshops to choose from, and I don't really remember what mine was called, but I was given a few writing prompts. I want to give these prompts to you all, followed by the small piece I came up with. It was timed. You have ten minutes. Please post before you begin and then your time will start. I think this could be fun. Also note, I'm a faster typer than I am a writer, so mine may be shorter than yours, as it was done on paper.
Your job is to tell the story using specific sensory information. The emotion will be in the details, not the dramatic language.
Here come the prompts:
1. Write a 300-word deion of a place. You can use any and all sensory deions but sight: you can describe what it feels like, sounds like, smells like, and even tastes like. Try to write the deion in such a way that people will not miss the visual details.
For the second option, look at a wall or building.
2a. Describe (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, textures) the building from the perspective of a man who lost a son in war. You cannot mention the son, war, or loss. You are trying to use deion itself to create a sense of loss.
2b. Same building. Describe it from the perspective of someone who has just fallen in love. Same rules.
You can choose either 2a or 2b, you don't have to do both.
You may begin.
