Some websites, notably Subeta, have a feature which is essentially a toggle for censorship. This allows older users to use "adult" language while still protecting those who aren't allowed or just don't want to see certain words or phrases.
I would love to see this feature implemented on Rescreatu. Possibly the ability to toggle censorship off could be tied to a user's date of birth. It's entirely harmless to users who don't want to be a part of it, and makes the website a little more relaxed to those who use language from time to time, or want to use it in roleplay.
To clarify, I'm not suggesting Rescreatu be more friendly to adult THEMES. I think it's already just fine in that department. The only thing I'm talking about here is adult WORDS. I think most of us know which words I mean.

I agree, I think it would be a great idea if it linked in with peoples account D.O.B's :)

I honestly don't mind this suggestion.
Just curious, what would the censor appear if it is enabled for lets say...an underage user? {like 7 or so?} Would a bad word come up as a bunch of *'s, or would res just make some words like... omnis or berroks or something like that.

I guess it would be whatever the mods want, but personally I like the replacement idea. I was thinking replacing bad words with their nicer versions (like heck or crap for example) was the obvious solution but I really like the sound of "what the berrok is going on". It's so cute!

The gentler version replacement is a good idea so it's not blatantly obvious there's censorship going on. Lol.
And of course, let's remind the users to use their own self-control and not flippin' flip flipper every other word. ;O!!!!

I was thinking for both forums and chat, in fact in all areas of the site. That way there would only be one set of rules for it and people wouldn't accidentally swear in the wrong place. But I think the age lower cap for the toggle would probably be higher than the shoutbox limit, which is 13.

Could it be something that you could turn on? Honestly, I don't want to see words like that, no matter what age I am, because when I see them often enough it makes me more inclined to use them, which I wouldn't like to start doing. I'd support this if an older user could turn it on if they wish ^^

Yeah, that's the idea! Anyone who doesn't want to see language would be able to turn it on, and anyone who doesn't care or would rather use language could turn it off, provided they met the age requirement.

This is a good idea but I'm quite impartial to it as of the moment. When we try to implement this, we are basically giving freedom to older users (age wise) to be able to use censored words. Though this will empower freedom of speech, this can also work the other way around. When one uses censored words it might cause people to easily get pissed off with people having disagreements. These censored words often stir up anger. Imagine if you can just easily say "You are a piece of (you know what this word is)" to someone, because it can be done, you actually wouldn't hold back. But because these words are censored, we are somehow able to hold our words.
Censored words are censored not only because they are branded as "bad" to hear but also because they stir up negative emotions that can be difficult to control.

Good point, Frank! However, anyone doing that would also be breaking the very first rule - be respectful to other users. If this does come to be something that is allowed, it will need to be made clear that directing statements such as that toward another user is no different than it is now. =)

I agree completely with this idea. As Broken said, this wouldn't allow people to suddenly start lashing out at each other and be rude, because that is a site rule. There is a difference in applying the word to someone else and applying it to a situation.
It would simply allow people to have a bit of freedom in the forums, especially in roleplay scenarios where it's more difficult to avoid.
Support!

I just thought of another thing about this that's beneficial to younger users. Sometimes the occasional troll comes in the sb and starts cussing at people and calling them bad things. With this, the younger users don't actually have to see what they are saying, and staff can take care of it without younger users having to see that kind of stuff. Same with forums ^^
Also, could there be an optional censorship toggle for the a-word, which is an allowed word on the sight? I personally do not use it and would enjoy if it could be toggled as well c:

I support the idea about the censorship toggle for the older users and such.
Though, I honestly have some questions about it. Would the staff know if a user is faking their DOB? And what would be the age limit to toggle the censorship off if it were on?
I also think that adding creatu names to replace the swear/cuss words is cute. ^^

Of course I'm not staff, but if I were going to guess what one of them might say I would think that they would simply do the best they could to catch all underage users. Using a date of birth censorship system isn't new - the shoutbox has been doing that for years. As for age limit, I'd like to suggest something like age 16-17?

I don't know, 13 year olds are already on the shout box and people are permitted to use certain words and no one has a problem with it. How severe the words are we talking? I imagine that even if this idea is implemented, certain words would still be forbidden. And if that's the case, I think 13 is a fine age requirement.

I'm talking about the standard spectrum of four-letter words and their cousins. The only thing I am not behind is slurs.

Ah, then yeah, 16-17 would be appropriate. Slurs no. Never ever slurs.
