I think it would be cool if there was like this random event where you'd get an item that you could use on your creatu to make it see-through.

True, Dragon. If this was a random Halloween event, then it would be different from a dye kit that changes the creatu into a ghost and they would become very expensive creatu until you try to bean or dye them.

Any random event that can change a creatu into an unatural type of creatu such as a mutant or a ghost would be cool and different from Neopets since no one can control who becomes a mutant or ghost. Other than a werelupe, I doubt that Neopets would allow werepets in their site, making were res pets something I wish to see.

Develop a reason for the random event to show, and let it happen for a week or two, then those pets will become very expensive until the event happens again. That would be fun to see.

So, using a dye kit does not alter your pet? Hmm.. I wonder what it does if not alter your pet?

How does a ghost (or any other above mentioned color variant) differ any way from the dye kits that already exists? "Ghost" (or whatever you want to call it) is just a color there as any of the other funky colors that already exsists on Res. I don't see how a magneta dye kit differ in anyway from a pink paint brush on Neopets? Both have the same outcome, you get a pink pet.

I may not agree with the OP but I definietly don't get the reasonings behind some of the answers here why it isn't a good idea, other than you want to bash Neo.

Guys...This topic was to give an idea, not bash the idea because it's too similar to Neopets. I hate Neopets as well because of the corrupted staff, but you don't see me tossing this idea out the window because of the similarity. I merely offered a reasonable way to get the ghost form.

Chezz gave a good point as well with the statement that once they start, they won't stop. But I'm sure Pat and the rest of the Res staff would try to keep the very ridiculous things such as jello and plastic pets out of the picture if they ever choose this path. I mean...They use dye kits instead of paint brushes, which makes more sense than Neopets, so why not use reasonable alterings such as a mutant or ghost with a believeable way to get them?

There should be nothing wrong with this idea and it will make more sense that your creatu has died, but still has unfinished business, so it will continue to be by your side as a ghost instead of using a paint brush to make your pet a ghost.

Sorry, NeoHaters, but they already have squishies of creatus that have been altered like an alien Zaphao...What are the odds that they're thinking about making those squishies come to life one day? It may not happen for a few years, but with the Res economy as screwed up as it is, this may become a reality just to add more varity and value to pets besides decreasing the chances of finding eggs or creating items to make you want to fail your hatches.

Really, I'm not understanding why the whole Neo thing is a problem. It's not even a Neo thing only either. Having "different-posed" pets isn't so much a bad thing, I've seen other fairly decent pet sites do it (Subeta, Ichumon). As for having too many of the special colors, there's a little thing called "moderation".

I wouldn't mind this too much because it's such a common thing for virtual pet sites anyway. Of course, there'd have to be an item (no lol, not paintbrushes, no room for Neo-bashing here) that would turn these pets into the special color, but I really want the site to keep to the whole egg theme. It's one of the reasons why I really liked the site in the first place. I can only wonder how it'd affect the economy as well. Simple recolors may not be as popular and could drive down the prices.

It's a decent idea, but I don't really agree with it completely. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Quite frankly, I think it's turned into a fad around here.  Just like bashing Twilight, bashing Neopets has become "cool". xP  Or maybe there's an as sumption that you're only allowed to like one petsite, so therefore, everyone on Res must hate Neo.   I dunno.

In any case, it comes down to Res and Res alone.  What features would work well on this site?  What can we do to make Res interesting and unique and fun?  Those are the questions we need to ask ourselves.

And when we say, "no, we don't want to introduce themed pet colours", then we don't actually mean "no, themed pet colours would make us like Neopets!"  We just mean that there isn't really a place in the game at this point for themed pet colours.

Thank you, Tam. That tells me that I wasn't offending the rules when I said those things in my previous post's second paragraph.

But I also did said a point in the post's last paragraph as well. It won't happen anytime, but it may happen one day.

I may look foward to it if it makes since, such as an event like in V1 when Nekodragon comes out of nowhere and glomps you. I would find it a nice event if for one week one of the staff members do something in a random event that changes a creatu, such as a mutation ray to mutate a creatu, or some magical item that pulls the spirit out of a creatu to change it into a ghost. That makes sense, but you can also make a one time item to theme color a cratu with as well.

I'm confused as too why exactly Neopets came up in this conversation. It was only an idea, and Res is too far from Neo to be compared, in my opinion.

I totally agree with that. There's no reason to bash Neo, nor is there if you were a user on Neo to bash Res. The two websites are very, very different.

By the way, the ghost thing is kind of cool, in an odd way. Maybe it could be a random event that keeps your pet like a ghost for, oh, let's say, the rest of the day, or a week or so. Just so the whole Neo-Res drama isn't emphasised any further. We know all too well that there's always going to be hardcore-Neo-bashers, but maybe there wouldn't be as much arguing if the ghost-like creatu event was only tempoary.

As for Chezzy's statement,  "Sure, it's fun to think about and might be interested for a bit, but it would get out of hand," I don't think Patrick or any of the staff would be stupid enough to create 'Shiny' Pets or 'Were' Pets. Not only because, frankly, it's kind of childish and weird, but also because Patrick and the staff aren't stupid, and they would know that if they started to go to that level that the smart-mouthed users on here would pop into that and argue with it, saying that we are copying Neo.

But I do like the ghost idea, as long as it doesn't go overboard.

When I said those childish pet alterations, I was simply stating the only ones that were coming to my mind.  And dye kits just change the colors of the pet, not the pose or anything else.  Also, I know the staff isn't stupid.  I <3 the staff, and I wouldn't insult them.  I was mearly stating that once a pet site would start something like that, I don't think it would stop.  If ideas are forced out, then they end up turning out bad.  (Like some of the newer Pokemon, for instance.  Just my opinion here.)

Also, I agree with Whit.  If they could make a dye kit that would just change the colors of the pet, then I agree with this idea.  ^^

Cheap is sometimes the best, so I support your suggestion, Whit. If you guys ever do make other themed colors like vamps or other things like that, (which will take many years to convince you guys...Heehee), I hope you will make it very reasonable.
