I just want to try and get some support on "inactive accounts ". I believe that after X amount lf years abandon accounts should be wiped. Yahoo does this with email addresses, if the account hasn't signed on in like i think it's two years they shut the account down.
Pros
- Will free up username searches, because when you go to look for your friend, Owl, for example there are hundreds of other users coming up, who obviously haven't been online in ages.
- More names will be available.
- it will probably give the site less stress? Like less users in the database kind of thing.
- Lastly, I feel that having a wiping system would make rescreatu a more respectable website. Having all this "clutter" is just... I can't quite put it into words.
Cons
-A user would lose their account.

* Edit: after x amount of time res should send an email to the user's email asking if they'd still like their account.
Well, those were my thoughts, I'm open to your opinions and ideas. Res has been up for 10 years now, it's time for some changes.
* PLEASE SHARE THIS ON THE SHOUT BOX TO GET THE WORD OUT *

Sorry but having been an inactive user for 4 years myself I do not agree with the clearing of inactive accounts.

If I'd come back and all of my pets and names were gone and I had to start over and create a whole new account I would have walked straight back out again. It would be totally unfair on people who have potentially spent real money on the site to get their pets/names in the first place.

Sorry I know that's not what you want to hear, but I am speaking from experience.

@Sin, if this had been a policy back then, you would have been aware of the consequences, and an email would have been sent to your email letting you know the situation. All you would have had to do was sign back in and verify you are still interested in playing.  I really want res to put this forward, but maybe they should allow cycles. Example: it's been a year since you signed on! Sign back in! (email) after that's been sent a year later it shuts down so that the user can still get their account back, but it requires a code or something, and then a year after that phase the account completely shuts down. If you were to leave your house or car somewhere it would definitely be re-used. I don't see why it shouldn't be done with these accounts. You dance have to change your opinion, but this is an issue and it should be dealt with.

@bucky the problem is people say hiatus and then leave for 8 years. There has to be some kind of limit. And if it were a hiatus, just signing in every month or so would be enough to count as active.

Having left the game and returned after five years, I disagree. I can understand clearing banned accounts, but not the inactive ones.

When you spend real money to buy pets and get good names, having to start all over when you return would cause players who take long hiatuses to not come back. Leaving their account alone would encourage them to stay if they decided to check in due to nostalgia. That's how it happened with me.

users who've come back after quite a few years are bound to be biased, and that's understandable. but here's the thing: a handful of users who come back compared to the rest of the accounts that haven't been, and probably never will be, touched for years is a little difficult to make grounds for a claim that it's 'unfair.'

yes, it would suck for someone to come back and realize, hey, their black kioka is gone that they spent real life money attempting to hatch. but users of any sort of site should be aware that eventually there's a chance that if they don't log in for years on end, maybe it's only fair that someone else get to play with the name collection they've hoarded.

what's the main priority, really? keeping users happy who aren't even here anymore? or keeping the users happy who still actively participate in the community?

i say there might be a middle ground here. while names do matter to some people, i know high colored pets, especially retired cs, matter, too. so maybe there's a middle ground where only the names get wiped. that's what most people want out of this anyway. staff could go on these inactive accounts and move the pets into the graveyard where eventually they'll lose their names.

should the old user return, they still have their pets, their items, etc., only the names will be cleared.

i mean, it's kind of silly for us not to do this. we already take usernames from inactive accounts. my name change came from the inactive user Arrow.

so yeah, that's just my two cents, but if it wasn't made clear, i support this wholeheartedly.

Sorry, I don't support. I don't think inactive accounts clutter things. If people don't sign in, they don't affect anyone else. I think that if you put the effort into owning a name (or being lucky enough to have it in the first place), it should be yours. And you can buy a forged birth certificate if there's a username on an inactive account you want.

I check my email and I would respond if my account was about to be wiped, but I don't think it's very fair.

Just my two cents, again, as a user who has been on multiple long haituses but always came back.

i think banned accounts should be all cleared out, yes,
but inactive dosent mean they will never come back.
it just means they been away for a long time,
they might be having a hard time, and cant afford
to travel or have internet to log into res.
And to come back and see all there hard work gone,
would just make them angry and sad.
So,i dont support the inactive clearing.

i support this

Pretty much everything I'm going to say has already been said by others...
but I feel like I should really show my support towards this.

I can understand where some people are coming from in regards to being on hiatus, then coming back years later and not wanting to lose anything. I was also on hiatus for 4 years, and here I am. However, emailing these users a couple times to inform them their accounts will be cleared out is a perfect idea. If I'm not mistaken, Neo purges without informing these users that haven't been on in years. Contacting those who have been MIA for 2+ years and informing them that their account will be wiped in *insert time here* would make it more fair for those of us who are still here supporting res every day.

(i say 2+ years because that's how long a user has to be inactive to be able to FBC their username. That seems fair to me.)

& Like Arrow mentioned.. we are making people who probably won't ever come back happy (we've all seen those "Last Seen in 2009" accounts...), and disappointing those who are still playing. Our community is so wee to begin with, and to be totally honest, I've been tempted to quit so many times recently because of inactive users having all the nice names. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has dealt with the frustrations of this. How am I supposed to build something for myself on Res if what I'm most passionate about is a dying mission?

I also agree with at least leaving the pets, but clearing the names.

We also know the economy on Res is struggling a bit. We know that users are sitting on millions/billions of TU, and it's not being circulated. If we had more names available to sell, TU would be flying everywhere. I also wouldn't hate myself every time I spend $40.00 to get CP for ONE name...
that being said
If we release all of those abandoned names, names might not be priced so ridiculously high! Seeing as how the circulation of names is so dry, people can charge whatever they want and get away with it. Trust me, I know... I've spent hundreds of dollars just to get a couple names. My collection isn't jaw dropping, and when I look at my bank statements, I think of how much it's not worth it, but I want to be on Res and collecting names is my only interest here.
(I do not think it is easy to make TU here at all...)

I have spent millions of TU for name searches, to come out practically empty handed. This is my list of names I have looked up. 3/4 of these names are on inactive accounts;
http://www.rescreatu.com/petpages/index.php?id=2190365
I'm going to edit my pet page when I have a chance to show which pets are on rotting accounts.
I don't mean to sound like a little brat.. But how is that fair? :|

I also think pricing your pets for over 2 billion in shops is ridiculous, but that's a whole other discussion haha!

I sincerely hope this can be something the Res Gods will consider.
The people who are still here supporting you would really appreciate it.
